Lol at Clarke doing the opening tip. How many teams can use their shooting guard for that?
My guess is most high school teams that have a 6’6” guy with great leaping ability uses them for the opening tip.
Thanks for sharing; it was great to see some proper film on Clarke. My early impression is that he is a very unique player. He's extremely dangerous attacking the basket. He has a good feel for direction and body control to get himself close to the rim, and once he's there, he usually finishes. When he doesn't, he's able to get back up to rebound his own shot or tip it in. Can play among the bigs at no disadvantage.
His shot is definitely not there yet. I could easily see him being a Hagans or Maxey type of 3-point shooter (<30%), and it's not out of the question that he could be a Briscoe-level shooter as a freshman. I don't know what his season average was, but a number of his jump shots were bad misses.
Has great court vision and is an extremely willing passer. He sees the open man and throws absolute bullet passes; I'll bet his assist numbers through the season are pretty good. I'm not sure he would be effective as a primary ballhandler, but he's perfect as a hockey pass guy. We play against zone defenses all season long, and I would love to see Cal plant Clarke right in the middle of those 2-3 zones, which is the part of the floor he's the best in anyway.

I think people got overinflated expectations of Clarke’s outside shooting abilities based on mixtapes.
Nobody that I can remember ever considered clarke a 3 point shooter to begin with...hes known for his mid range and going to the rim
That’s an awfully predetermined scouting report. You may be right, but based on the entire game film posted in the actual thread I would say that’s completely off base. I just watched a guy go 3-5 from 3PT range and 9-9 from the FT line while going for 30+. A feat Hagans and Briscoe couldn’t pull off after 2 years in college let alone when they were in high school. Clarke is a Malik Monk level scorer with an all around more advanced game because he defends and rebounds as well.

give some respect to Briscoe that guy was a great rebounder I believe he was averaging almost 11 a game in 2016, and one of the best finishers in the cal era. If he got it near the basket it was a bucket. And a pretty damn good defender had he stayed all 4 years we probably cut down the nets and beat auburn.

I’m not hating on Briscoe, he was great at everything you mentioned. He’s no Terrence Clarke though.
for sure Clarke will be a top 5 guard in the cal era based on what i’ve seen
Clarke's skill set screams that he needs to come in as a defensive phenom first and foremost. Type of player we have seen before that can be great if he starts with defense. Good at going to the basket, he could have a positive start from the get go if he focuses on those two things while he gets acclimated to everything else.

That would mean he is a great shooter. When we see 'SG' shooter comes to mind first. Maybe he is, just not what I have read. Hope he is because outside shooting will be our only real question mark. He could be great and not be a great shooter. I am thinking in terms of winning the championship. I know as we get deeper in the tournament backing off our outside shooters is what the better coaches will do when they are out talented. The reason I hope we Williams because he is a proven shooter with experience. Probably wouldn't fold under pressure. If Meyer is right I for sure like our chances with the depth we will have.
Briscoe was one of the poorest fits of any recruit we had here under Cal.

He was forced to play out of position at UK. Briscoe is best suited as a distributing PG. Honestly, he did well to adapt off the ball with his shooting.
I've watched a lot of Clarke over the last couple of years..He will be a better 3pt shooter than most think..doesn't shoot as well as BJ, but I think does everything else better..He will be a great teammate, fun to be around...my lineup as of today. I think BJ will be the 2G Clarke the SF

I do not see the type of form that indicates he won’t be a serviceable shooter. He will make his money driving and dunking on people but I think he’s a good enough shooter to be a threat.
It's amazing. Briscoe is one of the most selfless players in the Cal era. He played out of position not one year, but TWO, because that was what was best for the team. And yet, he gets nothing but grief from the vast majority of the fanbase.
Focus, intensity and ball handling really excite me. Thought he was going to be the two but guess Boston will be the two and Clarke the three. Sounds perfect for the three with his skills. Sounds like he could be the ball handler at times.
I remember Briscoe trying to run the point when Fox was injured and it was brutal. A player who dribbled too much and offensive flow was non existent. Team would get into a hole and then Hawkins would need to come in and play the PG role with Briscoe returning to 6'2 power forward role as a guard.
Those who romanticize this "he played out of position" forget the games he ran the point and how awful it was at a place like UK. He would've been better suited at St. John's overdribbling and get hyped because he was in NYC as they tend to do with anyone who has trick dribbling for mixtapes.
Slice's big contribution to UK recruiting and horrible fit. Slice is the most overrated figure to ever come through Lexington.
Lol I guarantee you he is much more naturally talented offensively than defensively and he will be a good defender.
So I watched the first game.... at first I was a little disappointed because Clarke wasn't playing very hard. Then the announcers mentioned that the championship game was that night! Seems like Clarke was conserving energy....
To his game, he didn't show a lot because his team basically takes turns driving to the basket... but when you drove....WOW... he has speed and "suddenness" while driving to the basket... he made a few moves that are unexplainable and shouldn't be possible. His "bend" or ankle/foot flexibility (or whatever the heck you cal it). is on another level - it's similar to what I see when Lamar Jackson runs the ball.
Opposing defenders are not going to stay in front of him. He has great acceleration...along with hesitation moves, advanced handle, plus an ability to lean/bend and create separation that is special.
Looks like he has really good touch inside 10-12 feet too.
Also, he looks to pass a lot. He has very good vision and was very unselfish the whole game. There was a few times he was bored and wanted the ball, but over half the time he touched the ball he passed.

lol , a distributing point guard has to pass the ball . Briscoe pictured himself as more of a James Harden type to me .
Yes, only Harden can make jumpers. They did both wear #13 though.
