KY Mr. Basketball needs to be considered as a recruit every year. Like Alan Cutler said, it provides the roster with potential 4 yr players who can compete to mix with one n dones.
Incorrect. He’s from Cincinnati, he just played some high school ball on the KY side of the river. He is from KY, pretty sure he was just born in Cinci. A lot of people from NKY are born in Cinci...

Sweattyman knew Herro wasn't going to miss this one. Last person on our team he wanted to see open.I love your avatar. I even had to show my wife this one. Hilarious!
Except that you’re wrong. The kid lived in Cincinnati, not Ky. Thus he’s really from Ohio. He did, however, play HS ball at Covington Catholic on our side of the river, hence why folks on this board have decided to claim him anyways. No, I am pretty much positive I am correct...actually I am totally positive.

Patience pays off for Iowa Hawkeye recruit C.J. Fredrick, who reminds one analyst of Jordan Bohannon
The 2018 shooting guard from Kentucky knew full well there might not be a scholarship for him as a freshman when he committed to Iowa. Now, there is.www.google.com

CJ Fredrick

It feels like you sit in the shadows, waiting on the next Fredrick thread to pop up so you can play “gotcha” with someone. He’s from Ohio.
So what is more important to the people that want a roster full of “Kentucky Kids”?
Whether they were born in Kentucky or played their high school basketball in state?
No, I am pretty much positive I am correct...actually I am totally positive.

CJ is from Cincy. His family moved to Alexandria and he played from Covington Cath because his uncle was an assistant coach there.I guess he just sits in Alexandria at his house and he spaghetti with his family then.
Google CJ and Alexandria, KY. Iowa's roster sheet is going to show where he is born, not where he lives. Everything else shows Alexandria KY. I live in the area. He would have went to CCHS...instead went to Cov Cath.
Many here say he will get us to 40-0. Heck yeaI am a diehard Iowa and Kentucky fan. I have watched every single game CJ has played as a Hawkeye, many of them in person. CJ is a knockdown, dead eye 3 point shooter who hits them in the big moments. Not someone who just scores when the game is not close. He leaves Iowa with the highest 3 pt percentage OF ALL TIME for the program. Believe it or not he was one of the best on-ball defenders as well. The problem is he has had lingering foot injuries throughout his career and has missed meaningful time each year so far.
Regardless, if CJ can stay healthy he is exactly the player a championship team needs. While I am really sad he is gone from Iowa I am ecstatic having him at UK.
you are correct, I know his uncle well. Not sure what this guys motive is but you are correct.I guess he just sits in Alexandria at his house and he spaghetti with his family then.

The game against Oregon that Iowa played had to have been some of the worst defense ever played in the NCAA tourny lol!

The thing that concerned me was his defense. He doesn't appear to be very athletic to me and that is required when playing Cal's switching style defense.I am a diehard Iowa and Kentucky fan. What is the statement released from the University of Iowa that he is talking about?
But, not every player has to be a defensive stopper. Especially if they shoot around 50% from 3. And, while he’ll never be confused with Gary Payton defensively, he’s not a HORRIBLE defender. I just don’t see the downside, aside from his history of injuries. Every championship level team needs role players & specialists & in today’s game knockdown 3pt shooters are invaluable. And, he has great range. A lot of his 3s are NBA distance or longer. The thing that concerned me was his defense. Iowa is not known as a strong defensive team under Fran, so I'm not sure what you saw Frederic do in an Iowa jersey will translate to UK, but you can't turn away a shooter of his caliber.
But, if he can't D-up, he won’t play here, Cal might be changing things about how he runs this program, but I don't see any possible way he changes his stance on defensive toughness.
SmokeLot of Cincy and Xavier buzz building too. Wonder if it’s a smokescreen or legit.
I'm not the one you have to convince. But, not every player has to be a defensive stopper. Especially if they shoot around 50% from 3. As long as we have another strong perimeter defender or 2 on the floor with him we’ll be fine. Look at Tim Legler. That guy couldn’t guard a mannequin but he carved out a role & had a nice NBA career. We would likely get 3 years of him, too. I admittedly value shooting more than most, probably, so I do have a biased opinion on it. But, in today’s game it’s almost a requirement to have 2-3 shooters on the floor at all times.
And, this kid is a very skilled shooter in every aspect. He has nice footwork & is really good coming off screens & curls & is always in position & prepared to shoot as soon as he receives the pass. Also has a pretty quick release with zero hesitation or indecisiveness. He can be crafty & deceptively quick getting to the basket or in the lane for pull ups & floaters, as well. Can shoot off the dribble. Seems to understand the game & his role very well.
Just looks like a quality BASKETBALL PLAYER to me, which has been somewhat of a unicorn in Lexington in recent years. We have a need & he can fulfill it at a high level, IMO. I just see no negative to it as long as he can stay healthy. I do value defense & don’t mean to imply otherwise. But, in some cases I’m willing to overlook it if the offensive trade off is worth it. That’s where I am with Frederick.
I know what you’re saying & my post wasn’t really directed at you. I guess it was technically but I quoted you more or less bc your post was an easy segue to my point. These are things that Cal is stubborn about & needs to change, IMO. If a player like Frederick is a liability defensively I’d like to see Cal go to a zone or find another way to keep them on the court rather than benching them or not recruiting them altogether. There are ways around it to avoid completely exposing or burying a shaky defensive player. I’d at least like to see him handle future situations like this in a different &/or better way than he did with Allen this season. Personally, I’d prefer that every player is at least a competent defender. But, I also wouldn’t shun a 50% 3pt shooter just bc he’s not an all-conference defender. I should’ve clarified my post but it was basically pleading the case for Frederick against Cal’s criteria for a player. I know where you stand. And, I’m usually in agreement. LolI'm not the one you have to convince.
John Calipari has always put defense ahead of offense and up until the debacle that was 20/21, if you didn't contain your man, you didn't play.
I'm not sure Cal.is going to let up too much on that. Even if Frederic is hitting threes every time down the court, if he gets beat off the bounce a couple times, he's coming out.
In a switching man-to-man, you can't rely on someone else to pick up your slack defensively. You're going to get Isolated over and over if you are a weak defender. Hopefully this kid is Tyler Herro 2.0.
Bruce, meet BUCKETS!Sweattyman knew Herro wasn't going to miss this one. Last person on our team he wanted to see open.

Your exactly right like coach! How about coaching and devising ways to keep guys, that can help you offensively, stay on the floor.I know what you’re saying & my post wasn’t really directed at you.
