CI Wrestling Thread #56

The Righteous, Vincent Marseglia and Bill "Dutch" Carr have departed AEW and Ring of Honor, PWInsider.com can confirm.
We are told the departure took place about a week ago.
The duo had been with AEW and the current version of ROH as of March 2023.
They had been ROH Six Man Tag Team Championship title holders on several occasions with different partners during the Sinclair Broadcast Group era of ROH.
Neither have commented thus far on their exit from the company.

Yeah, I dunno what's happening but suddenly 2/3 of that group are sweaty oompa loompas.

Physically, this is the best Rusev has ever looked. Just straight cut and jacked.

We shouldn't be getting Gunther and McAfee of course buuuttt at least there was a slow buildup of the commentators siding with Jey for months as Gunther looked on and it's easy to see why WWE loves McAfee. He's a solid, passionate promo and since he knows how to butter a town up via local sports, he can get a big reaction out of them. Good, focused promo from Gunther too.

I’m happy he is getting paid but I don’t get the point in WWE bringing in a soon-to-be 43-year-old Jeff Cobb who barely anyone who watches WWE will know. Unless he signed like a very short deal then this contract is probably his last full-time contract, what’s the point in investing in him now when there are younger talents that could use the tv time.

The next 2-3 years will be interesting. Right or wrong, Nick Khan may see AEW as a feeder system of sorts and why he said there's talent there that will come over once their contracts are up. They don't have to tamper with MJF to know he likely won't keep re-signing until he's 40. It's why I don't buy the idea that WWE wants AEW to "die." Would you renew Shotzi or bring Britt Baker to NXT? Keep Cora Jade or hire Mariah May? Trot out Strowman or go with Rusev or Black? And AEW can keep developing home growns, taking from the indies, and giving new life to former WWE talent like Ricochet.
WWE would absolutely snatch up Britt Baker if she became available. Why? Because she’d be an ex-AEW name with name recognition.

The easiest way to get a WWE offer is to work in AEW, they’ll throw out an offer to anyone with a pulse that worked in AEW even if they aren’t good (see Pillman Jr/Lexis King).

Like I said before, Triple H making all the same mistakes Tony Khan did when he started signing every ex-WWE name with a pulse.

Putting Gunther in a program with ****ing Pat McAfee is quite the way to waste a guy as talented in the ring as Gunther is. Just give him the PPV cycle off if they can’t come up with anything better than that.m

At least when Bryan Danielson wrestled Nigel McGuinness he was going up against a guy who was at one point one of the best in the world before both WWE and TNA ****ed him over.

He just dropped the belt to Jey and they want to give Jey some time with the strap.

Gunther climbed the IC ranks and the WWE Title.

This is male soap opera placeholder booking to fill a quick void before he goes after Jey for what is rightfully his.

Patience grasshopper.

Whats the story here? Knowing Hogan, I am sure it is deserved but I haven't heard about this beef. I am really beginning to hate that I looked at Hogan as a "super hero" as a child.

Here’s the path I took on Hogan:

1986-94 - Hogan rules!
95-early 96 - this schtick is getting old I’m not 6 anymore

NWO forms:

1996-98 - This heel character is awesome!! Long live Hollywood!

Learns what a backstage POS Hogan was in 1999:

1999-2013: F Hogan from a wrestling fan perspective

Hogan does the racism:

2014-present: Double F Hogan

I think that is similar to mine. I was 11 in 86 and still remember seeing WWF at Rupp with my stepfather around that time. We stayed at the Hyatt and were able to meet him and Macho Man after the show (my stepfather was a professional photographer who was friends with the photographer that took the pics at MMRS and Elizabeth's wedding so that was our in). I remember just being absolutely star struck and in awe. As I aged, he stopped being that super hero. Now, I hate that I thought of him that way as a child and I just want him to go away. Those real American Beer commercials are so bad also.

Then again we were blind to a lot of it bc of kayfabe and the wrestling marketing machine - I think once a lot of stuff got out there and that reality show he did it kinda showed the true version.

According to the PwInisder folks when Hogan was brought back to WWE following his suspension of making racist comments that were recorded by Bubba the Love Sponge. He didn't really apologize. Instead he said something about being careful what you say because you could be getting recorded.
