CI Wrestling Thread #56

The AEW good/WWE bad and vice-versa arguments are so played out at this point. I'll admit I was guilty of it in the past, when AEW was new and a breath of fresh air and WWE was stale. Now? We have two successful companies making money with good content and wrestlers getting paid.

If you haven't watched the Cena/Rhodes promo from last night please do, it was the kind of top-notch psychology and mic performance that wrestling fans love, and does what it is supposed to do: bring the viewers and sell tickets. Stop fighting and enjoy it.
Nah **** the Fed.

BREAKING: Tokyo Sports is reporting that Tetsuya Naito's NJPW contract ended on January 31st and he's "in danger" of leaving the company. According to their sources he been asked to sign a renewal three months in a row and has put all three offers on hold.

Naito currently holds the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Titles with Hiromu Takahashi.

In case you hadn't seen, AEW All In will start at 3:00 pm eastern time. Afternoon show in July in Texas could be interesting. Anyway they announced a whole week of events.

Guessing they are doing that to avoid going up against Saturday Night Main Event. Anyway he's the Dynamite lineup for this evening as of now.

AEW Champion Jon Moxley & Marina Shafir vs. Willow Nightingale & Swerve Strickland.
Cope vs. Claudio Castagnoli
Toni Storm vs. Penelope Ford
Owen Hart Foundation tournament brackets will be revealed.
Will Ospreay to appear.

- From moment one Miro's AEW stint was going to be a disaster. His first appearance saw him wearing a Minnie Mouse shirt and pajama pants iirc. Dude's a monster and makes his debut dressed like a college kid nursing a hangover. I don't know how Tony allowed that to happen. Oh well, plug him and Lana into SD and keep him midcard for awhile. They won't set WWE on fire but it's another past star returning which they'll welcome.

- Moving All In to the afternoon is a mistake. First, you flinched. That's your version of Mania and now it looks like you didn't want to complete with SNME, which is usually just a glorified Raw. Second, as others noted, now you're asking fans to hang out outside for hours on a summer afternoon in Texas and your wrestlers now have to compete in that miserable weather. As Jerry once said on Seinfeld, "good luck with alll that."

And honestly the only reason I watch SNME is bc I enjoy Jesse Ventura’s old school commentary

Yeah, forgot it was recently built. Of course it has a retractable roof.

Can't remember if my original prediction was 23,000 or 25,000 for All In but I think that's close to what they'll get and you can't knock that. Some still will but London is just a different beast.

Totally missed that Globe Life had a roof, so that won't be as bad.

Thought Dynamite was a good show, maybe not as good as the last couple of weeks. Really enjoyed the mixed tag match. The stuff with Swerve and Hangman continues to be interesting.
And Harley Cameron is great.

Hope everyone got through the storms last night ok.

I know that a lot of times I like the dumb part of wrestling better than most, but that stupid puppet cracks me up. I need at least one segment with the puppet every show.

I'd like more info rather than "sources" from a guy obsessed with Vince's sex crimes on those Max numbers.

It'd be great if true but I'm supposed to believe an additional half million people have been watching AEW via Max weekly? This as the dedicated fans have repeatedly said the main storyline is trash and the weekly shows aren't that important. If those numbers were true, Tony would know. And if Tony knew, he'd be screaming it from a mountaintop nonstop.

Don't pee on a man's leg and tell him it's raining.
The biggest tell for me is; if they suddenly have 500k viewers on Max, that means almost none of them came from Turner because Dynamite's ratings have been relatively flat before and after the debut on Max.

So we are talking about the same 575k-700k people watching on TBS and now an additional brand new 500k on Max who were not previously watching on TBS? I've got a bridge to sell anyone who believes that.

i wonder if circus circus still has $30 rooms available
I stayed there for one night in 2020 about 3 weeks before the world closed.

Room was $40. Resort fee was $75. Taxes made that $40 room well over $100.

That place was gross. I felt like I probably left with a few STDs and traces of cocaine in my blood.

I've never liked Vegas. I've been there several times and I saw a ROH show there before. The smell of smoke in the casinos and watching old people with oxygen tanks and a cig in their hand at the slots as I get off the elevator at 10 in the morning just depresses me.

It doesn't help that this has to be the least interested I have been for Mania in over 20 years, maybe longer.

I’ve actually never been to Vegas I just know circus circus is supposed to be a total shit hole. I want to go and eat all the food but I’m poor. There’s a casino 30 minutes from me so I couldn’t care less about gambling

Circus Circus buffet has the best top ramen and beanie weenies. All the flavors. Must have a contract.

The trip I mentioned earlier was my first and only trip out there. I am glad I had the experience, but it’s not somewhere I feel the need to visit regularly.

I found the entire city to be one giant, trashy ass cash grab.
