CI Wrestling Thread #56

The Amazon Prime news potentially opens the door to AEW being exclusively there in the future. WBD is a mess and no one has faith in Zaslav so his future may be on shaky ground. WWE is working with Netflix, USA, NBC, A&E, CW, and Tubi. I think we're heading towards a lot of WWE content on Netflix and AEW on Prime.

I believe AEW has gotten better recently but I do not think they're currently on fire or have had a long string of amazing, can't miss shows. A part-timer on a retirement tour turned heel on Peacock and it shook the wrestling world and made headlines everywhere. That's a company currently on fire. Revolution has a great card but as a podcaster once said, AEW can shit out five star matches. In the last year plus watching WWE, I've gotten pissed (Rock's WM40 involvement), been shocked (Punk's return, Cena's turn), and have teared up (Cody's win over Reigns and Irvin's announcement of that win as she cried).

That. Is. What. AEW. Is. Missing. And it's why they remain stagnant and uncool. Give me emotional moments that make me feel something.

Having them legit fight would be one of the more interesting things in the women’s division -

There was a confrontation that took place a few months ago before the Jade Cargill injury, involving Cargill and Shayna Baszler.

It’s been confirmed by a half dozen people that it happened, but nobody went into details past Cargill had rubbed enough people in the RAW women’s division the wrong way and Baszler was wanting to fight her until management found out and calmed the situation down.

The time frame was when they were doing Baszler & Stark vs. Belair & Cargill matches. It wasn’t said what in particular happened other than it wasn’t just one thing and the belief is that some of this stemmed from inside the ring in those matches and some didn’t.

One woman star said they believed the tension within the Smackdown side was worse than the RAW side.

It’s AEW PPV week, so I’m surprised a story about trouble backstage isn’t about AEW!

I thought for sure it was going to be some Jade in AEW story. Of course it's Meltzer so who knows if it's true.

Really wish the Mariah-Toni feud could keep going even after Sunday.

So WWE announced an entire weekend of shows over Memorial Day to take place in Tampa- Saturday-Tuesday. That includes a Saturday Night's Main Event and, wait for it, NXT Battleground on Sunday night at the same time as Double Or Nothing.

What's being advertised for Smackdown for tonight.

WWE United States Champion Chelsea Green vs. Michin.
WWE Champion Cody Rhodes will appear.
Jade Cargill will appear.
Randy Orton will appear.

FINALLY!

Knew it was coming when I saw video of him getting out of his wheelchair with the encouragement of DDP. We roll our eyes at the WWE HOF (for legit reasons) but for old guys like Lex, you know this means the world to him. More of this and less of, well, Michelle McCool types.
Apparently undertaker said if mccool isn’t on the A&E LFG show he’d leave it after season 1.

Sounds like Jade needs a thorough humbling

LOL at Jade telling anyone they need to learn how to work. She’s one of the worst workers in TV wrestling!

Also LOL at thinking she could get the holiday tour off.

Jade Cargill has been experiencing some heat within WWE.
Wrestling Observer reported a situation that took place with Shayna Baszler and Jade Cargill last year that led to Cargill getting heat. Fightful had asked WWE talent about the incident shortly after Jade Cargill was written off TV, but those in the locker room had been quiet. Since then, it was claimed that Cargill took issue with something that had unfolded, and the word around the locker room was that Cargill had said something to the effect that Baszler needed to learn how to work. We're told it stemmed from the match in Scotland where Cargill tapped out in what wasn't supposed to be the finish of the match.
Upon returning to WWE, the situation that got much of the locker room talking was Cargill’s promo video that said she was “demanding respect” and being surrounded by wolves in the shape of women all around her.
At least one talent in the locker room mentioned that this was taken personally by a number of talent as they kept the issue between she and Baszler quiet.
Cargill’s absence was also the subject of heat in the locker room. Talent had heard that Cargill asked for the holiday tour off, but was told that the tour was mandatory. Following that, she sustained an injury that several members of the roster doubted the validity of, which is why reports had emerged elsewhere that she wasn’t injured. However, WWE higher ups spoke to Fightful and said that she was injured, and was actually willing to come back much earlier than she did. However, WWE wanted to make sure she was cleared by their team, and she was able to get in additional reps at the Performance Center.
Fightful has reached out to a number of the subjects mentioned.

Here’s my, albeit a bit ridiculous, fantasy booking but could work…

Mariah May loses

That’s the catalyst for her mental breakdown to go off the edge

On Wednesday, we see her strapped up in a straight jacket in a psych ward screaming a bunch of nonsense because she’s gone completely bat shit insane

It’s revealed that Luther was never actually a butler, he is the director of the psych ward

Then it’s unveiled that Toni was plotting to ruin Mariah May from the beginning and everything before it was all a giant ruse.

Then you may ask me, “why was she trying to ruin Toni Storm?” Well I don’t know, let them come up with something lol.

Who in the blue hell are you following? This is something I don't get with AEW fans. We're getting Punk vs Rollins in a cage Monday night. I think it'll be entertaining with Reigns likely returning. I'm not sitting here like, "IM NAKED AND AROUSED, PAL. 15 STARS."

Buddy if you don’t see it from WWE fans you ain’t trying very hard.

Andrew Zarian on his Revolution preview show today said he has a “feeling” about how the AEW title match will go and finish. Won’t make a pick on the match because of that and says “I don’t know how I feel about this.” The tone in which he delivered that last line sounded like it could be controversial.

So Prince Nana turning on Swerve and aligning with Ricochet?

Four guesses on the title match:
1) Copeland wins. Congrats, you've got a 51 year old ex-WWE guy they didn't want anymore as champion.
2) Copeland wins, Christian cashes in. Very WWE and you're trading one heel for another.
3) Number 2 but Jay White steals the contract, cashes in and wins. Somewhat WWE with a splash of Russo booking.
4) Moxley wins and keeps the title until All In. McMahon stubbornness powers through, fan complaints be damned.

Darby effed things up with the Everest plan and TK was so enamored with the thought of "one of his" going to such lengths to put a little AEW flag on the top of a mountain that he couldn't say no. I'm interested in what happens but this sounds messy either way you slice it.

3 was my guess a month ago - keep your friends close but your enemies closer - that’s why jay white has been next to cope these last few weeks for the eventual turn

What/if-

Cena manages to lock Cody in the STF. Just as Cody is about to tap, Wade Barrett—who was on commentary—jumps in, pulls Cena out of the ring, and unleashes a brutal attack.

Barrett rips off his coat to reveal a Nexus shirt, sending the crowd into a frenzy. Cody smirks, Barrett smirks, and chaos ensues. Barrett throws Cena back into the ring, and Cody wins.
This would Set up Barrett vs. Cena for a UK premium live event.

They’ve teased a potential Barrett/drew match but maybe we get this one too!
