CI Wrestling Thread #56

You can tell Shane wants to be involved in wrestling somehow. I'm sure he had dreams of his dad giving the creative side of the business to him and it sucks he got passed over for his sister and brother-in-law, but it worked out for the best.

I'm still confused over that Thunder Rosa spot the other night. It almost played out like a public rib to make her look like a dolt. Someone on reddit asked about it and a few fans got strangely defensive with the WHY ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT THAT I FORGOT ABOUT IT 30 SEC LATER LOL @ YOU OBSESSING OVER IT. Like, chill. It was really awkward and no one understood how it played out like it did.

Shane would have been a disaster at AEW creative. Everyone like to say TK is a money mark, but hiring Shane would have been the exact thing a money mark would have done to get that theoretical quick cash in off the buzz of a McMahon turning their back on the WWE.

That post-match segment with Thunder Rosa was super awkward. Clearly there was a miscommunication or mistiming of some sort and no one had a clue how to ad lib out of it. Also, Thunder Rosa looked like she’s never swung a chair before in her life lol.

To be fair Rosa is like half the size as Megan bayne so it’s fair to say she shouldn’t be scared of Rosa is likely legit true and also in the prior segment Hobbs punched the chair Brian Keith tried to swing at him with.

Alvarez shits on AEW all the time.

And this thing about no production meetings is just a straight up lie. They have producers for every match for one thing, so kind of hard to have producers if they aren’t meeting to produce.

They need to debate instead of sitting in their silos doing podcasts

I don’t know if Alvarez even likes wrestling anymore. He’s always complaining about it. Something good could happen and he’ll find something to bitch and moan about with it. I unsubscribed to the WON YouTube because I got sick of him complaining about everything, much less all the lies or half truths he just throws out there (same with Dave in that regard).

Meanwhile Dave went from advocating what was best for the fans and wrestlers to just being a corporate shill. Doesn’t matter if something is subjectively good or bad for the fans or talent, it’s just all about does it draw money. Like who the **** cares unless you own TKO stock or are an investor or own equity in AEW?

WWE made a shit ton of money last year but his own readers voted FIVE WWE shows to the top 10 worst major shows of 2024.

Dave, don’t you think your subscribers would have liked it more if the shows had been of higher quality instead of having to listen to the WWE brag about a record gate after they were just disappointed with what they watched?

WWE must be paying Drew a zillion dollars to job to everyone on the roster at this point. I understand that he’s a “company guy”, but they are making him look awful at this point.
They seem to like to that with people after they re-sign. Push them to get them to re-sign then back to losing buddy once the ink dries.

Drew is awesome. They need to get behind that guy.
I don’t know what the future holds but back maybe 2018/2019 drew was miz’s lackey and then he finally got out of that rut and got the world title - so ya he’s being a company guy doing the jobs but he’s had this trajectory before.

Michael Cole on how much he knows ahead of each show:

"Pat McAfee knows nothing. Pat doesn't want to know anything going on on the show. He wants to go out there and just be him.

"I need to be prepared. I don't know every single step of every single thing that's going to happen, but I need to understand storylines. I need to understand where we're going to go with certain characters so I can lead the audience in that direction, because I am the narrator.

"For instance, at the Rumble, I'll sit at ringside all day and the guys and girls will come up to me, and Gargano and Ciampa, DIY came up to me and they explained their whole outlay of their match, because there was some certain little things that I had to know about to be able to bring forward into the story and explain why these things were happening.

"Also at the end, the Street Profits got involved and people were like 'why are they getting involved' so I would need to have that knowledge to explain to the audience why this is happening. So those are the things."

SD has become the worst show of the week. Bored out of my skull tonight. It's a mix of 3 hrs after long work weeks combined with Bloodline fatigue and not knowing what they're doing with guys like Knight. DIY also has go-away heat with me right now.

Rock's a long-winded sumbitch but he clearly wants his own champion, a corporate champion. In theory, Cody would be the perfect corporate shill champ. Rock recruited him but will be turned down. That'll lead to Cody getting screwed, perhaps at Mania but maybe later in the year. Cody, Cena, and Reigns aren't turning heel for Rock. Rollins could but no one wants him as champ. If Rock isn't wrestling anytime soon and he wants to be puppetmaster, that leaves either Drew or Punk. Both work but Punk being obsessed with main eventing WM and turning into everything he hates would be really interesting.

"...but the fact that Dwayne is in the main event of WrestleMania next year and I'm not makes me sick!"

Yeah, Punk becoming a shill for TKO Dwayne would be super interesting. No friends, right? That's Punk's motto since returning.

I was half paying attention - he announced wm in New Orleans next year then said something about Cody’s soul and see you at elimination chamber - was definitely a bunch of hype to pop the rating.
That “be my champion” “I want your soul” stuff was really stupid and hokey.
Charlotte got no response last night and for a wrestler that’s the worst thing that can happen to become irrelevant.
I had never seen her before the Rumble. But she is horrible on the mic!

I still think what a podcaster mentioned regarding Drew is going to happen. Maybe they keep the title on Cody until Summerslam but that's too long imo. Whoever beats Cody loses to Drew. If it's Punk, that's karma for screwing Drew numerous times but that throws my idea out that Punk would be a corporate heel champ. Not sure they'd want heel Punk vs tweener Drew. Regardless, Cole mentioned Sami being 0 and forever against Drew for a reason. Drew wins at Summerfest, Sami wins the Rumble, Drew (c) vs Sami at 42 in NOLA. Crowd is going to go bonkers when Jey wins and they'd go bonkers next year if Sami does it too.

I love Sami and would like for that scenario to play out. I can’t see the E letting him main event their biggest show of the year though.

On another message board I frequent, someone said Smackdown is now Rampage status lol

Punk would be a good fit for corporate champ because he's as corporate shill as it comes these days, has literally become everything he said he hated when he was first in WWE.

I don't even want to begin to imagine how shitty the promo exchanges are going to be between Charlotte and Tiffy in the leadup to WM. Going to be just some god awful TV.

Good she needs to go away a while longer. Maybe fans will start to miss her. Maybe she should go to AEW where they’ll really care. Her and Nia Fats both.

Charlotte is literally showing up + going through the motions with as little effort as possible. It’s embarrassing to say the least. Her gimmick is as unauthentic as she looks.

What makes you think AEW fans will care for her? WE all hate her too.
Good. Should be given the chance to learn to love her. AEW is WCW in the 90s, just not as good. WWE can unload her and she’ll go straight there. Would be a nice home. Bet she’d enjoy it.
