CI Wrestling Thread #56

Ya they went to a smaller venue and can’t sell it out.

Its going to be on after the nba all star stuff on tape delay.

So ya it’s a massive disappointment on all fronts but that’s like Jerry jones firing himself - he won’t b/c he’s too stubborn trying to prove everyone right he just makes bigger mistakes.
They are making nearly 4 million a week on the media deal alone and TK is worth well over a billion dollars. You take risks when you have that kind of money. Sometimes they pay off - like when they went to Wembley Stadium - sometimes it doesn’t.

Last year we did both the men's and women's Rumble. Doing something where folks put in money would be cool, just not sure how we do it.

That's a really cool venue.
It looked amazing on tv, I thought.
It had Hammerstein vibes. The Cincinnati crowd wasn't as good as the Hammerstein shows were, but it looked and sounded good on TV. It's a shame that the upper deck can't see the ring on the floor though, so AEW never even put those seats up for sale.

Fun with numbers-

Saturday Night Main Event- 1,494,000- No Peacock numbers yet
Collision- 250,000
Raw on January 20th- 3,000,000- huge number but that's a 50% drop since in three weeks.

PwInsider reporting this years Hall Of Fame Headliner is...

Congrats to the newest WWE hall of famer

Since Triple H picks who goes in, I didn't think about him going in solo anytime soon. Smart to do it now though when they're in a boom period and it's like he can do no wrong at the moment. He was honestly my favorite wrestler for a long while. There was a promo he cut right after losing the title where he made it seem like he couldn't live without it, as if he was addicted to the championship and would do anything to reclaim it. You just don't see that kind of passion now. Even Drew, who we all love, has never shown that kind of passion about wanting to be champion again. The title just felt much more important in the early 2000's.

That’s b/c along with the golden age (hogan/warrior/savage/flair/etc) you had several of the all time greats going for the gold at that time (rock/austin/jericho/hhh/etc) so it felt more important b/c it certainly was to stand out among a stacked roster

Billy Gunn - 61
Bobby Lashley - 48
Chris Jericho - 54
Christian Cage - 51
Adam Copeland - 51
Dustin Rhodes - 55
Jeff Jarrett - 57
Shelton Benjamin - 49

A few are thriving and still look great but when did AEW become a retirement home for the unwanted? WCW vibes here.

Was listening to a wrestling stream this morning and someone fantasy booked next year's Rumble. On Raw, Cole brought up Sami being 0-11 against Drew. Whether we like it or not, the RR is in Saudi Arabia. Who do they love the most there? Sami. Make Drew champion in the fall, have Sami win the Rumble to an insane ovation and challenge Drew. Sami (0-11) vs Drew for the title, night one. Sami finally wins. Even if he holds it until SummerSlam, I love that idea.

Ya - after years of wwe doing that they’ve finally turned the page on relying on the past and pushing current and future talent.

Yep, I'm in.

Women's Rumble has barely been built up, whereas the men's is as stacked as it's ever been. Hopefully the leaked sheet from a few weeks ago isn't the real deal. Most can probably pick the correct final four though.
Roman, Punk, Cena, ? who's the 4th
my YouRube TV subscription
You weren't apart of the ratings to begin with. I don't know anyone with cable. One thing I will always say in AEW's defense. TV ratings are pointless and make no sense to reference in the big 2025.

Ahhh yea. Just was wondering who you though it could be. I could see anyone from Sami, Jey, Drew, KO getting that 4th spot.
In my head Roman takes drew out / punk throws Roman out / punk takes cena out and wins it

Fatu gets most eliminated and longest run in rumble - cements him as main event star

Not the best Dynamite episode last night but I did get a kick out of Ricochet's "People's Moonsault."

Also think Jacob Fatu gets the "Diesel/Kane" spot of eliminating the most people.

Will knock out the Rumble draws later today, been dealing with some family stuff.

Haven’t watched AEW in a bit, but Cage look is so much better with the beard/more normal haircut. His old look was awful. Not that AEW will do anything with him, but the new look fits his “muscle” role better.
I never could take him seriously with the mohawk and Lash Laroux sideburns. The new look, when combined with focusing more on being an athletic muscle guy instead of an athletic muscle guy that wanted to be a flippy guy, has been a much needed improvement for him.

Death Riders matches are what I've always hated about the Bloodline. As good as the story sometimes has been with the Bloodline, I've rarely ever liked a Bloodline match. Why? Other than Roman being a boring wrestler for my tastes, which would be a problem rather he was Bloodline or not, there is interference virtually every single match, frequent post match beatdowns, and the babyfaces always being too stupid to ever bring anyone out to help them then getting mad when the shit that always happens inevitably happens.

100%. A good guy can only get jumped so many times before he would come up with a plan. But they never do.

And the frequency of the post match beatdowns or interference spots waters down the effectiveness of ones that actually advance a narrative because you're biased towards hating seeing them. So as soon as it starts you're like "oh f*cking great, yet another post match beatdown."
