CI Wrestling Thread #56

Guess I’ll be canceling peacock soon!

BREAKING: WWE sent out a press release to announce that the WWE Network will shut down on Jan 1, 2025.

It was noted that those outside the US who still have the WWE Network will see all WWE content begin to be transferred to Netflix immediately upon logging in or signing up for the service

Netflix is set to be the exclusive home of RAW in the US beginning in 2025 and the exclusive home of ALL shows and content internationally such as RAW, SmackDown and NXT and all PLE’s going forward

It’s official the end of an era. Thank you WWE Network!

WWE Network is INTERNATIONAL only.

PLE's and the content archive will still be on Peacock for the time being (eventually should all go over the Netflix).

This is the start of Punk/Rollins for Mania. WWE Punk is able to work with others, while Rollins draws a line in the sand. One man refuses, while the other steps up. Hopefully this leads to a Rollins heel turn as he screws Punk in the Rumble.

The Cody/KO segment was great. Not sure I saw that coming (Owens is right btw).

Belt collectors usually opt for titles from the 80s and 90s that aren't $500-$700. You can get them off ebay and send them to someone who'll repair any damaged leather or scuffs on the plates. Newer titles or customized spinner belts though? Ugly as sin, same as the sports logo ones. But yeah, I've seen displayed replica IC belts or the Winged Eagle title in cases online and if you're hardcore into wrestling and collecting unique stuff is your thing, they do look nice.

Ya I agree the 80s and 90s belts are nice looking for sure!

I take Cornette's approach which is something like "for the people that like that kind of thing that's the kind of thing they like." Sapp vomited out 15 tweets in a row about the Costco guy's match like it was Rock vs Hogan. AEW keeps telling the world they've got the best women's division but besides the Storm/May feud, it's been nothing but Mercedes bungling things, Kamille looking weak and foolish, and a couple busty women shaking their boobs for lonely guys in the audience. But for some, that's what they're into.

One of the few great points he makes -

Dave Meltzer believes #AEW needs a "super babyface" for people to get behind after heels won the majority of matches on last night's Full Gear:

"To me Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland are guys who should rarely lose. This is a company, one of its biggest problems is that it doesn’t have the super babyface that needs to turn this thing around, they need a big babyface the people can get behind, and all they do is put over heels over and over again. This show was the prime example that ‘Jesus Christ we need some babyface to do something’.

"Swerve lost and I get it, in a vacuum that was the right finish. But when the show is over and all you have is heel wins other than Daniel Garcia in the top matches, who do you get behind? Who’s the strong babyface to get revenge on all these heels?"

I’m not opposed to belt collecting, same as anything else. If I had a man cave type setup a Winged Eagle or Big Gold would look nice on the wall.

Saw a YouTube video years ago from a guy in EKY who has some belts and Flair had a deal with Walmart to appear at various stores and sign for free. Flair was posted up near some bags of dog food looking like he'd rather be dead and buried than in a rural Walmart in WV or NC or wherever but the guy met him and got his Big Gold title signed. It'd be pretty cool to own and display that for sure.
