Chris livingston having a workout with the Lakers

Will Rich Paul and Lebron get the Lakers to take him with their 47th pick?
I hope so, or I will feel bad for him. If it’s the players first, wouldn’t you as a coach be honest with a player. We know Toppin should have returned along with Livingston, Reeves and Oscar.
Did they think they were ready? Oscar was the only one, numbers wise. IMO

How do we know Cal wasn't honest with CL? I've never bought into the notion that Cal, at least in recent years, wanted to push out 2nd round picks, like CL. I think Cal would really prefer to have him back.

I think Cal more so wanted to push out the top20-ish type guys.. in part because they were truly ready for the NBA, and to make room for the next great super class.

CL could have very well said, this entire time "I'm going to Kentucky, where I'll get the most minutes as a freshman, and then I'm going to try for a spot in the draft, based on my potential, no matter what"

I don't think there is really a ready for fringe guys anymore. If you've got a scholarship to a major market CBB team then you're gonna make more in NIL. Maximize your earnings while you can then try to carve out a niche. Very few 3-4 year players end up NBA superstars.

I agree with this. Why would Cal tell a kid like Chris in zero mock drafts to leave?I'm sure he told Chris the truth.I think Chris just believes he is better than he actually is right now.

I don't think Cal is pushing Livingston to go pro....there is zero movement to even draft him and it's 100% obvious (except to Livingston) that he has no next level skills right now. I mean what NBA is knocking down the door on a 6'6 SF...who shoots barely 30% 3pt when basically left wide open the entire year and has even worse handles? Decent rebounder....but we got owned by wings all year long...so I don't buy he is a lock down defender.

But here is the Cal fault in this....he is just picking up dudes from high school based upon ratings and he probably prefers the athleticism kids. But he need to be able to read them better and determine if they are dead set on 1 and done and won't be high end (or even solid) in collge for 1 year.....why pursue them. What is the point of guys like Livingston, EJ Montgomery, Khalil Whitney, etc...if they are signaling leaving after 1 year.

In the end if Livingston leaves UK after 1 year...what did it benefit the program? Chris was basically unplayable until maybe the last 10 games. And even then, it was mainly rebounding that made him playable. He was never able to make plays for himself or others off the bounce (so he had to be left open to make shots) and was not a good shooter even down the stretch.

Jmo but the lebron connection is the whole reason he's staying in, assuming he does. He's being given assurances by bron the Lakers or someone will take him and put him in the g league.

We already saw that connection pay off (to whatever extent) last year when beats have him an nil deal.

Lol he cannot help them at all, they are good at power forward and he's certainly not an NBA 3 or big enough to be an NBA 4.
And the thing is a player can play PF in college if that best helps his team win, while at the same time developing his offensive skills more in line with what is expected of a SF in the NBA. It can actually build a better looking resume of success. Plus playing PF against some guys that are a little bigger/stronger isn't a bad thing for development either.

With Livingston’s high opinion of himself, if his only option (money-wise) is to return to UK, there could be a team chemistry problem.

Yeah, we done went and sent the wrong feller out there to Lakerland...here's who you want...he's the gold standard of in-game adjustments... [winking]

Probably not a good fit for them, but end of 2nd round is about right. Kid has upside, but who knows if he'll reach it.

Yeah I agree with all that. The problem is, we'll never know what CL and his camp said to Cal. Whether it was honest or not.

Maybe the intention on Cal's end, was to have a guy like CL for 2 years. He played him good enough minutes to keep him happy. And next year really could have been a breakout year for CL to develop into a 3&D type, who maybe could have been a late 1st rounder.

I guess maybe the move here, in hindsight.. was to not recruit CL in the first place? Maybe not answer his phone calls? I think that's fairly reasonable to think we should avoid these types.. but you can never really tell until they get here.

I don't think CL is near NBA ready, but if I'm an NBA GM and I HAD to pick one of the guys you listed, it would be CL. Just off potential. We've seen Oscar's ceiling, and he simply won't help an NBA team. Reeves and Toppin just don't have enough size+potential skill ceiling. CL has the size and athleticism. If, big IF he can significantly increase his general skill set, he might be valuable to a team down the road.

I would like to see the young man back for another year but I just do not see how he is anywhere remotely ready for the NBA.
I know it is all about potential but whims a player line Livingston develops, another player is always coming up trying to take his spot.
Players today don’t have the luxury of time to develop
I can see him leaving, going the pro route, spending time in the G League and in a year or so, be all but forgotten

Did Toppin even get a workout with any teams or is he already in Japan?
He may get a pitty workout with the Knicks, he’s got the athleticism to play pro ball, some of the shooting but a very limited handle. He hit the boards a lot harder than usual toward the end of the year but he doesn’t play consistently or with enough toughness IMO. His main issue is when he tries to create shots that he would need to hit in the pros he doesn’t usually connect, that fade away a on every jumper is a problem that needs fixed. Mulder ended up playing pro ball so it’s not out of the realm of possibility for Toppin. Gabriel has played 8 seasons now, that’s crazy to me. Toppin is on his level IMHO.

We’ll Cason Wallace said he and Chris were one snd done all the way before season started….so Cal knew and he let Livingston demand to only play SF at rhe detriment of the team

Cal has lost all benefit of the doubt wjtb his BS all these years

NBA could give two shits what numbers are put up. A player isn't ready based on numbers

You think Livingston is ready?
No.... But i think he's definitely closer than what people are acting. If you think stats matter, they dont. He's an athletic freak that is the perfect size for an NBA wing. Getting better over the next year or two I could see where he could be a good pick in this draft.

A good wing would have to be able to shoot.

Hardly an athletic freak. Really not that much above average

Good story. Not a true story. But a good one.
