Just a comparison for personal interest:

After three hits last night, BH is at .267, 24 R, 22-7 (cs) in SB, and .302 in OBP
Choo is .280, 31 R, 3-3 (cs) in SB, and .414 in OBP

1/3 of the way through the season, I am thinking letting Choo go and committing to BH was the right call, especially given the huge disparity in money and age of the two players.

Bottom line to me is that leadoff is not the real problem with the Reds, Bruce and Votto have to start hitting or it will be a sad, short season.

26th in OBP%
20th in SLG%
24th in OPS%
28th in runs
28th in hits
27th in hitting with runners in scoring position(.219) and
28th in hitting with RISP and 2 outs(.174)
12th in the league with runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs(.337)
T26th with runners on 2nd and 3rd(.167)
22nd in average in the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings

This team simply cannot hit. They are a bunch of .250-.255 or less guys who don't take a lot of walks. Currently only 16 walks from having the lowest(23rd) amount in the entire league. Votto is the only guy on the team you'd consider an above average hitter. Phillips and Schumaker are guys who are decent hitters throughout their careers.

Bernadina-not a hitter
Santiago-not a hitter
Heisey-not a hitter with some pop
Barnhart-Please
Soto-should be DFA
Hannahan-garbage
Lutz-not a hitter
Pena-not much of a hitter
Cozart-definitely not a hitter. all glove
Frazier-mediocre hitter at best with some pop
Mesoraco-not likely to be a good or great hitter, but doesn't have to be for a catcher. Not this day and age anyways. He has some pop but will not finish anywhere close to .300

The offense needs a severe boost and that contract of Homer's likely did away with any reasonable expectations for us fans that the Reds can upgrade it. Cueto's contract is up next year after the option so that's going to cost a shit ton of cash. Unless they have some great hitters buried in the minors somewhere that we all don;t know about the offense is likely to be piss poor for the next several years.

To follow up, after last nights inoffensive performance, Reds have scored the 3rd fewest runs in their history at this point in the season since 1920.
