Cheerleader replies to Bozich article

Never saw the Bozich article. Was it in the CJ yesterday??

Just saw the article. He got blasted in the Comments section.

Bozich is a tool. He is the definition of the grumpy old man who thinks he is better and knows more than everyone else. Just a complete buffoon.

As a man who played basketball, baseball and football in high school, I had an issue giving cheerleaders their props for being athletes. I dated a cheerleader in college, and yes they are athletes.

Bozich and WDRB better hope this doesn't gain national attention. People have been fired for less. It's that kind of world, these days. And if you're in the media you've got to know that.
Surely they don’t let that old burnt out drunk still write for a paper do they ? My oh my he’s been a has been for twenty plus years !

That piece from Bozich yesterday was a total embarrassment and letting him publish that revised version as if we hadn't all seen the original was even worse.

I just can't imagine how 1) anyone older than 13 and living post-1960 would write it and 2) how any editorial staff in the world lets it through. I realize you want to hit on the breaking news and get it out quickly, but you don't publish that if a single other person has taken a look at it.

Nobody cares about cheerleading. Also the median WNBA salary is 130k? Lmao they run that league at a loss for no reason.

Bozich really fried himself on this one. It is pretty obvious that hi-level cheerleading and gymnastics requires a significant amount of athletic ability....and quite frankly some serious courage....
It's not easy. It's a very physically demanding and time consuming entity. I used to watch them work out in the Seaton Center and it looked to be very tough. Had a classmate in Engineering that was a cheerleader and he could bench around 300 pounds with ease.

WDRB at some point might have to respond to the back lash about the BOZO article, you gotta love it.

Please enlighten us with your cheerleading analysis.
My daughter always played sports so we were not into the cheerleading thing. But her friends were. And their parents and families traveled and spent a lot of money for cheerleading competitions and equipment. They put a lot of time money and effort into cheerleading. So to just flat say no one cares about cheerleading that is just wrong. That is my point.

For sure they are, I would challenge anyone who says otherwise to try and do a backflip. Just one.

Thats fine for the families to support their children in their preferred activities/hobbies. Outside of those people not to many people care. Sort of like marching band. If it makes them happy I'm glad they can do it. Also Male cheerleaders were the biggest douchebags on UK campus when I was there.

Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

Is the original article still available? I’ve only seen the revision.

That athleticism paid off and left an impression, huh ;)?

On a serious note, competition collegiate cheerleaders are absolutely athletes. It's basically a form of acrobatics and gymnastics. To have that level of explosiveness and body control requires extreme physical fitness, reptition/training and focus.

Great article though. I do wish she would have left WNBA salary out of it as a nod to "equal pay" since that is strictly a basic economic equation. It weakens the rest of her points and she had more than enough ammo to deliver the killshot without creating a vulnerable argument point.

People act like this happened with no facts. After a 3 month investigation I'm pretty confident in saying some serious stuff took place.

I will say that Cheerleaders are athletes. Watch them for a few minutes and some of the routines they do are very skilled and took a lot of hard work to master. That being said I agree in a sense with what Bozich said and I agree with Rupps Runts post above. Nobody comes to the games other than the Cheerleaders parents to see the Cheerleaders. It is very much like Marching Band. If you put the Marching Band and Cheerleaders as their own entertainment show it would not bring in enough to support itself. That is why they put them in with Basketball and Football. Basketball and Football probably fund Cheerleading and a lot of other sports in college campuses.

Didn't read the Bozich piece. but this sounds like some combination of there's no sports because of Covid so I'm bored, let me tackle this, and if I can make it a little controversial and get people talking that's not a bad thing...IOW, who knows if that's how he really feels, or if he embellished to so that we'd all be talking about him today.....That 'journalists' often do such things is reason #362 why they now rank below lawyers and used car salesmen in respectability surveys.

My wife was an all-american competitive cheerleader in high school and college. It's insane what she did to maintain that level of athleticism.

I’ve only read the revised article and the report by UK about what was going on.

id like to see the original or some excerpts so I can understand the background behind her response. Don’t mistake me, her response was very well written, and clearly inspired. I just don’t understand the context. as another poster said, the only weakness in her response is attacking the pay gap of the WNBA in this attack on the misogamy of Bozich and people like him. That is simply a result of the free market and not of men trying to subvert women.

according to the report by UK, there was some serious demons in the coaching staff and serious mis treatment of the athletes. Forcing students to expose themselves and providing alcohol to minors. If Bozich had attacked these issues solely, he’d be in the clear. But he clearly expanded his attack to cheerleading and dancing as a whole.

Again, if someone can post excerpts from his original version, or the original article that would really helpful.

Coaches didn’t force students to expose themselves or supply alcohol to minors, other cheerleaders did. The coaches didn’t stop these things from happening:an important subtle difference.

I had a buddy (male) who was a cheerleader at UK in mid nineties. I dated a female cheerleader for UK (want to be specific here) in 1994. Both were superior athletes. My buddy was a monster, would kick the hell out of almost any other person in Lexington if had to. I once saw him beat down three UK rugby players by himself at Sutters in Richmond. The girl I dated was strong as a horse, was 5 feet tall, 90 pounds. But she was an amazing athlete. And very bendy. She was awesome. I never would have told either of them that they weren’t athletes. The guy would have kicked my ass, the girl would have stopped doing things.

In today's climate, he should have known better but then again, it is the media. Should we expect any less.

I've long said that the cheerleaders are the best athletes on the UK campus. It's either them or the gymnastics team.
