I think Matthews is going to be an outstanding player. But I don't put much faith in summer workouts and pick up games. I have heard that too many times over the years.
What team did you watch last year? It sure was not UK.Ulis could not finish in traffic to save his life last year, Iverson lived in the paint
That comparison is insane
These reports about summer sensations have been around as long as I have. I want all of our guys to do great but nothing tells all like the regular season when we play other competition. Word of advice for some of you youngsters. Keep the excitement in check. Keep it at a good level so you can build during the season as we get better. You just never know how some things will turn out...Ex: this past season.
Right and I'm one of them. Some of our fans don't realize that he is a first round draft pick in 1-2 years.
I'm not as optimistic about Willis as you are, although I hope I'm proven wrong. But the rest of this I've been thinking since we got Murray. The key difference would be you can't accomplish nearly as much with a press these days.had our guards remained healthy our '97 team would have been my favorite all time. the whole roster was full of champs, and had potential to be one of the best perimeters ever at uk. it was an exciting team. we don't have quite the same experience but man this team is going to be fun to watch.
ulis/turner
briscoe/epps
murray/edwards
matthews/anderson
mulder/mercer
shep redshirted, they still had mills, we have hawkins. we can also add willis to the perimeter game.
more so the offense i imagined. a drive draw an kick out nightmare for the opposition. ie vs louisville and iu in '96. not necessarily uptempo in the full sense. more about the talent at the point and on the wing.I'm not as optimistic about Willis as you are, although I hope I'm proven wrong. But the rest of this I've been thinking since we got Murray. The key difference would be you can't accomplish nearly as much with a press these days.
This will IMO be a season when Calipari will be over joyed if a team tries to press him. He will have basically 3 point guard types and two rim running bigs on the floor most of the time and two PG types all of the time.
If this team can hit the outside shots at a decent percentage they will be a nightmare to defend.
I do wonder however if rebounding might be a problem because this is not going to be a particularly long lineup.
I think he will be an outstanding two to three year player. I think he will be a part of the main rotation but will play behind Murray, Ulis, Briscoe, and possibly Mulder.
Not yet. I am mainly going by scouting reports and Briscoe and Murray are rated higher. Ulis i would think is a guaranteed starter. Mathews could out play those guys, as I'm not ruling that out, but I'm just going on pre season speculation for now.Have you ever seen him play ?
