Charles Matthews surprising some people

I think Matthews is going to be an outstanding player. But I don't put much faith in summer workouts and pick up games. I have heard that too many times over the years.

These reports about summer sensations have been around as long as I have. I want all of our guys to do great but nothing tells all like the regular season when we play other competition. Word of advice for some of you youngsters. Keep the excitement in check. Keep it at a good level so you can build during the season as we get better. You just never know how some things will turn out...Ex: this past season.

No one will play 35 minutes a game as we have too many badass players .Skal , Ulis , Briscoe , Murray and Poy will play alot but Mulder , matthews and Lee are too good to not play as well. Tai is beast with bulk as well. I agree Willis can be a great player but he won't play as there are better guys in front of him , again .

This is true but with Matthews , anyone who knew about him knew how amazing he was . Kid is legit . Not a 1 and done but definetly a 2 and thru .

Right and I'm one of them. Some of our fans don't realize that he is a first round draft pick in 1-2 years.

Same here, ever since I have see Matthews play I have said he is going to be a real good player for UK. A lot of people are going to be surprised by his play.

had our guards remained healthy our '97 team would have been my favorite all time. the whole roster was full of champs, and had potential to be one of the best perimeters ever at uk. it was an exciting team. we don't have quite the same experience but man this team is going to be fun to watch.

ulis/turner
briscoe/epps
murray/edwards
matthews/anderson
mulder/mercer

shep redshirted, they still had mills, we have hawkins. we can also add willis to the perimeter game.
I'm not as optimistic about Willis as you are, although I hope I'm proven wrong. But the rest of this I've been thinking since we got Murray. The key difference would be you can't accomplish nearly as much with a press these days.

Pressing will be much more prominent. The new and improved 10 second rule mixed with 5 seconds less on the shot clock will tempt coaches toward it.

We are blessed athletically to both press and attack the press.

Gonna be a fun ride.

Kind of hard to surprise anyone..i mean we shouldn't have any expectation of them yet.

Hopefully Ulis can be a great leader and mold these young players into a great person, hard working, and caring about their teammate. If that happens, i'm sure they'll be great.

more so the offense i imagined. a drive draw an kick out nightmare for the opposition. ie vs louisville and iu in '96. not necessarily uptempo in the full sense. more about the talent at the point and on the wing.

This will IMO be a season when Calipari will be over joyed if a team tries to press him. He will have basically 3 point guard types and two rim running bigs on the floor most of the time and two PG types all of the time.

If this team can hit the outside shots at a decent percentage they will be a nightmare to defend.

I do wonder however if rebounding might be a problem because this is not going to be a particularly long lineup.

Rebounding could be a challenge at times, but I think we have a good rebounding group of guards.

Also, the other team has decide if it's worth it to send an extra body to crash the offensive glass, risking a runout from one of our wings.

I doubt if we will see many opponents with the size to make crashing the boards a priority against us.

I think he will be an outstanding two to three year player. I think he will be a part of the main rotation but will play behind Murray, Ulis, Briscoe, and possibly Mulder.
