Chandler is not good enough

Yep and it’s frankly ridiculous that pope plays him as much as he does! The kid plays hard but he’s just not good enough to warrant the time he’s had on the court.
I'm not saying you're wrong but it could be a case of what we're seeing in practice is not translating to the court and Pope believes he'll soon breakthrough. That said, he had some good plays to start before getting abused, Pope stuck with him too long IMO.

He actually played pretty good defense. His offense was not so good. Amari played decent defense. The defense was horrible as was the offense the second half. Stupid turnovers and they shot out of their ass. Think Wagner made more threes tonight than he did all last year. It sucks but life goes on. Hope we get a shot at them in the sec tournament.

Chandler has to be played, at least he plays better defense than Perry.

If Chandler doesn’t play, who else can we put in at guard? Are we really going to have Robinson and Oweh play 40 minutes?

Noah should take some of the minutes at the 3. If Kobe Brea isn’t making shots, then Noah should be on the floor—at the very least, he provides better defense and hustle.

Chandler is probably one of our three best defenders right now. He’s just a complete offensive liability. Similar to how Perry can knock down a shot but is a complete defensive liability. Other teams go at Travis immediately as soon as he enters the game.

He was away from basketball for like 2 years or whatever it was. Probably just not ready.
This is the biggest thing going on with him right now. Being away from the game for 2 years is something that takes some time to get back in the groove offensively.

After watching tape on the kid from his Sr year, he could drive, shoot and do whatever he wanted with the ball. The reason Pope is playing him would be to trigger that inner response to get THAT player back. This kid is very athletic and just needs to get his confidence back on offense.

UK is the biggest stage in college basketball and coming from a Mormon background makes this transition even tougher. I’m hopeful he can keep improving because next year and subsequent seasons, he is going to be really good.

Chandler is probably our best perimeter defender with Butler out. He did a good job containing Davis which is why he was in for so long. He will continue to play more as long as Butler is out. Everyone is bitching about him due the offensive end but he’s providing good value on the defensive side. Hopefully the offense will come.

I start to wonder if Noah should start eating into Carr’s minutes at this point. Carr just doesn’t seem like his earlier season self even though he’s cleared to play.

They are just normal freshman that take time to develop. We all got used to Cal ‘s freshman who majority were ready to go but even those 5 starts, burger boys, needed time. Remember Andrew Harrison , Nick Richards, PJ Washington?

Cal was giving his freshman time to play so they will develop faster. He didn’t have a choice with basketball model he created. We all complained that we don’t like the one and done and we want seasoned players.

Perry , Chandler, Noah are your typical freshman. They will take 2 years to give good minutes. First year to get up to speed and physical aspect of college , second year will become back up players and have few good games and by third year they will start and by 4th year they will shine.

Back in the day, freshman would not play I first year in college varsity. There was a reason for that.

Not everyone is John Wall or Anthony Davis. Remember last year Reed Sheppard and other freshman that were blocked by the rim or by the pressure of their first NCAA tournament game ? They were not ready mentally .

So relax and enjoy them how they develop and hopefully play for us for 4 years.

Chandler is ready to play his role. With time, as he gets better his role will expand. Same for Perry and Noah.

Chandler was rated a four-star recruit and committed to head coach Mark Pope at BYU over offers from Utah, Arizona, Stanford, and Utah State. The kid can play as others have said, it's going to take time, sometimes it takes longer for some than it does others. There is a reason kids couldn't play their freshman year until it changed in the early seventies. They were not ready for all that would be thrown at them from academics to playing competitive sports and college life in general. At Kentucky we expect instant results, it doesn't always work out, in his case I think it will. He is playing in the toughest league going against elite talent every time out. I'm willing to give him time to learn the system and get acclimated to playing in the toughest conference in college basketball.
