Kyle Cody is on the bump for today. Kentucky really needs a good performance and a win today. It will be interesting to see who Vandy counters with.

Some interesting lineup moves. I haven't really watched the last two days, has Mahan made more errors? Or is Vandy throwing a lefty today? Really don't see why else Heady would be playing over him.

I like that Shelby is being shuffled around a little bit in the lineup. I also think White's a better leadoff option than Wilson.

Mahan has played his usual. He isn't hitting that well but still better than Heady. This is dumb. In a series where we've struggled to hit the ball he plays two guys that have hit poorly all year. Just makes no sense.

No score through 2 1/2 as Squires is doubled up on a line drive by White. Vandys Raby has 5 strikeouts through 3. Has there ever been a team who strikes out more than this one.

Our approach at the plate this weekend has been comical. We look like a blindfolded 5 year old trying to hit a stuffed animal full of candy hanging 9 feet in the air. I thought Eckstein was a hitting guru, and he might be, but so far we aren't against good competition anyway.
Shelby is all screwed up, and needs a few games off, his avg. is below .230. White hits it well with no one on base, but looks rather silly at times with runners on, as does everyone else.
Any pitcher with a decent breaking ball can get double-digit K's against the Cats any time.

White yesterday swung at the slider time and time and time again. Vandy knew he couldn't hit it. So what does Henderson do? He has White leadoff. Makes a ton of sense.

Shelby has made some good contact but cannot find the grass. He needs to be moved to 6th or 7th but Henderson doesn't have the smarts to do that.

Heady is hitting .095 and on a weekend when we've scored 2 runs, neither of which were off base hits, he starts him in the third game. That's inexcusable even if Mahan is struggling.

Why the hell is Vandy not intentionally walking Pompey to get to Heady? Load the bases and set up the double play for a guy hitting under .100.

Ok they pitched around him. Kentucky changes and pinch hits Mahan to face the right handed pitcher. Not sure that putting in a right handed pitcher was smart by Vandy. They could have left a lefty in and Henderson would have likely kept Heady in the game.

Squires comes up huge with a double!!! 3-0 Kentucky. Squires has his first two hit game of the season!

That's our first hit with runners in scoring position this weekend. About damn time.

Squires has swung the bat well the last few times I've watched UK play.

Cody was great today. Just completed his seventh inning. No runs allowed and just five hits. I'd get him out and let the bullpen finish off the final six outs.

I don't want to sound like Bill Clinton, but I feel your pain. lol We finally get a hit with runners on, Vandy has been Johnny all staff today, using multiple pitchers. After yesterday, the 1st blown save chance in a long while, who does Hendo go to Lewis, Hjellie, Logue ?

It's kind of sad that we can narrow it down to the same 3 pitchers that we use every single weekend. Lol

Not sure Lewis has a lot of confidence right now. Not throwing anything off speed. Still, getting the outs that we needed! Just three more outs and we can salvage a win in Nashville.

Lewis works out of the inning by getting a shallow popup and a strikeout. Nice job by the freshman. Cats could use a few insurance runs, but they have a 3-0 lead as is.

Oddly enough South Carolina and Kentucky were the only two SEC teams to win every series going into the weekend. Both lost their series this weekend.

I thought Mississippi State was the other team to win every series?

You may be right. Now that I think about it you are. Got my maroon colored teams mixed up. They also lost their series this weekend though. Lol

The Hjelle\Coleman match up has to be one of the biggest size differences in all of baseball.

Ugh bases juiced for Vanderbilt with two outs and Kendall up. Not a good thing for UK here. A double could tie it a home run wins it.

Why? Is there a written rule somewhere that a UK pitcher can't have a complete game shut out?

Never easy with Vanderbilt, but we at least got 1 win this weekend. Great starting pitching, Brown, Beggs, and Cody all pitched like we hoped they would this year.

OK, I have calmed down now. I just get frustrated with our plate approach sometimes. Hats off to the UK pitchers this weekend, they deserved better than going 1-2. I know Sheffield was great Friday, but we blew that game yesterday, after Beggs pitched a** off.
Now we get a rematch with the Big Red Cards at their park tuesday, then the Hogs come a' callin.

Cody was unlikely to throw a complete game. He'd already thrown 104 pitches and the 7th inning was his only 1-2-3 inning all day. The bullpen was fresh because UK's starters had gone pretty deep into every game. A pitcher can get blown up at any time but Lewis has allowed one run all season so I think that's the right move to make in that situation.

We have got to find some hitting somewhere, but I guess it is what it is...

I still think some of the poor hitting is on the lineup decisions. White leading off was something we tried early on and he struggled, but we rather foolishly go right back to it. We have several guys that could be pinch hitters but we've not really developed any of them to that role. Heady continues to start some games despite hitting under .100. Cottam hit pretty well yesterday but we don't play him again today (this may have been a good decision since Squires hit well). Shelby continues to struggle but Henderson really doesn't want to move him.

On top of that our approach is often times random and nonsensical.

Good grief. We're on the road to one of the top teams in the country & go 1-2, all tough games. What's to bitch about? We should be quite happy that we're competitors of the best. Bravo, Cats!!

Yes Vandy is a top 5 team, I think the Saturday game where we led 2-1 going to the bottom of the 8th inning, and then lost 3-2, is a source of frustration. Win that one and we win the series. All in all a hard fought, low scoring series, Vandy totaled 6 runs all weekend, and UK totaled 5.

Yes it was and it's a shame we didn't hold onto game fri

Not upset with the guys or how they played. They played tough and our pitching was pretty damn solid all weekend.

Overall this has been a solid season so far. Still, I don't like Henderson and unless he does a John Wooden turn around I will never like him. I think our team wins despite many of his poor decisions and poor roster management. I think our team could do much better and I'm tired of being the 2nd or 3rd best team in the state. I think we had the skill and ability to best Vanderbilt in this series and this was one that our team couldn't overcome our poor manager.
