Cats vs Cocks...Sun

Just checked the updated RPI, we are now at # 45, with a strength of schedule at # 27. We seem right now, to be in pretty good shape for a Tourney bid. We still have work to do, the series at Ole Miss is BIG, the mid-week game at Indiana is one we need to win also.

It's so stupid that Hairston dosen't see the field more...too big of a bat not to see more time.

Especially considering the alternative is Carson who is hitting .150 or something absurdly low. It's a complete wasted at-bat every time Carson is at the plate.

Agree, Doc now has 5 HR's in only 75 AB's, in contrast, McNeill has 5 Homers in 193 AB's and is slumping badly. J Shelby has 11 homers followed by D Hairston, R Mahan, T Pompey with 5, while Reks has 4 and White has 3. The team has a total of 44, which is pretty good, in only 48 games.

I rarely visit this board, so I apologize for my ignorance, but can someone tell me why Dorian is called "Doc"? I've known him for years and have never heard that.

Don't know but do know he uses it in his twitter handle.

Thanks.

He had a big day yesterday - graduated in the morning and then game-winning HR yest. evening.

From what I can tell Indiana has 3 guys who could/do start during the midweek. All three are rightys. So, that means that Hairston will likely be sitting it out. Henderson cannot risk a right handed Hairston hitting against right handed pitchers. It might end up being a disaster. No, the lefty, Marcus Carson will be manning right field for UK. Look for him to continue swinging a red hot bat, at .083 in league play.

Seriously speaking, this team has a huge hitting problem. It is nothing short of amazing that we won yesterday. We have a mere 4 hitters with league batting averages over .250. We hit a dismal .245 as a team. We're actually the second worst hitting team in the entire league behind only Missouri. We're also dead last at drawing walks. Just looking at the numbers is terrible.

On to a new topic... Sean Hjelle. Assuming that Henderson is back next year, [sick]:flush:[sick] what does he do with Hjelle? Hjelle was our closer this year, but it seems as though he is capable of being a possible starter? Does Henderson have the guts to make him a weekend starter or will Hendo keep him in the comfortable role of being a closer? If he moves him then who is the closer? If he doesn't then who pitches on the weekend? Do we lose two weekend starters or does Brown also go?

Yes cb3 you are right...that was a disaster with Doc hitting that righty in the 11th...:baseball:[banana]:boxing::scream::sunglasses:...the guy is enough to make a Christian cuss watching him coach

Do not see Brown being a high draft choice at all. He would be wise to work on his mechanics this summer and return for his senior season. I can see Logue, Lewis and Brown as weekend starters. Who knows what role Hjellie will play next year, he could start or return as our closer.

Hey I have a question for those in the loop, what happened to Robert Zeigler the RH pitcher from Ohio, also Trey Miller an infielder from Lexington, who actually played 1 year at Michigan ?
Both of those guys may have helped us this year, do not know what became of them !

Good question, Zeigler had a really good fastball, but struggled with his control. Miller must have gave up baseball, BTW is Marshall Gei still on the team, he seemed to really be a hitter in fall practice the past couple of years.

Pretty sure Trey Miller quit baseball, or is about to. He's not listed on the roster anymore. He's a good kid but probably should have gone to a lower level school and would have had a nice career.

Gei is on the roster for this year. If I were him I wouldn't be on the team much longer considering that I can't break the rotation at either catcher or 1st base. Especially considering that Squires, who struggled at hitting for a good chunk of the year, was playing over Gei. Of course, I don't know anything about Gei, but I have only heard great things about him.
