Cats v. Aggies (Sunday)

I didn't get a good vibe from their coach when I saw him whine and pout after the review on the safety squeeze play in game2(?)...it clearly was a close play that in no way could be overturned, yet he just couldn't believe it. Idk why, wasn't a big deal but rubbed me wrong.

Usually when you make mistakes the baseball gods punish you. Saturday the Aggies played some excellent baseball and turned 4 freaking double plays. They were then helped by Mingione's dumb decision(s) and UK committed three errors in one inning to help give TAMU a lead. You'd think that would be more than enough for the baseball gods to help them get the win, but instead they end up losing on a 1 out, 2 strike safety squeeze in the top of the 9th. If that happened to my team I think I'd be forced to just throw up my hands to admit that it just wasn't our day.

I think in part the TAMU coach was a bit miffed at Kentucky all weekend regardless of the score(s). I think he really didn't like that our kids stand in there and crowd the plate and often don't make a whole lot of effort to get out of the way of inside pitches. I think he considered this to be cheap and he was frustrated that we were doing it and that the umpires were "allowing it."
We got hit 7 or 8 times this weekend. We hit them once, maybe twice ??

You know, I was kind of torn about this. When Barry Bonds led the league in hit by pitch, I really thought that big appliance he wore on his elbow made him absolutely fearless about putting his elbow into the strike zone and that should have been outlawed. The TV announcers were accusing the UK batters of doing the same thing, but the elbow guards that I saw didn't look nearly as big as Bonds's was. But I don't think that it is right to camp out in the strike zone like that with protection that makes you fearless.

Very happy with the sweep, certainly unexpected. As far as the chippy part of the game, there are certain unwritten rules in baseball. One is trying to steal a base when up by a bunch, another is trying to bunt for a hit, when up by a bunch.
I do like the spunk UK showed, but there is a right way to do things, and being a gracious winner is one of them.

I just think this way of thinking is antiquated. FSU was up 10-2 on Va Tech this weekend and lost 13-12. With these bats, anything can happen. I get where you're coming from, from a sportsmanship perspective, but I don't think any lead is too large in college baseball.

I hated that as well but I definitely don't think that the equipment is the same as what Bonds was using. Some protection is fine and ours is no different than what almost every player uses. Bonds, on the other hand, practically had a metal arm.
