Cats @ Aggies

That’s a scary thought but honestly, with what is left on the roster, not sure we would know a difference.

But all this talk of a potential new coach, I don’t know who would realistically come to Kentucky for the reasons I mentioned earlier. If I’m a coach, why come to a place that very few no exist. Sorry. I’m just salty tonight and the bourbon isn’t helping.
See UT 3 yrs ago vs today. Best team I've seen easily.

I watched the first few innings, then said to hell with this. Opted to watch MLB and Masters instead.

THERE IS ZERO DAMN REASON WE CANT BE GOOD AT BASEBALL.

Indiana is a historical B1G powerhouse.
Louisville is a perennial Top 5 program.
Even Gawd Awful Tennessee has figured it out by hiring Vitello.

ENOUGH WITH THE CRAP BASEBALL. YES ITS 330AM AND IVE HAD A FEW AND IM SALTY.

Mark Stoops had the vision to walk in here and see what UK football had the potential to be.

UK BASEBALL HAS NO SUCH HINDRANCES. The only thing that has ever held us back is an actual commitment to win by our administration

Coach Madison wanted lights at the Cliff and CM told him if he wanted them he'd have to go find the money himself. That pretty much sums up the pathetic effort UK has put in to baseball.

GET IT TOGETHER MITCH AND GET THIS FIXED. ENOUGH.

Agree with everything you said except the unwillingness to spend money on baseball, have a new $50M ballpark as one piece.

But I too watched a couple of innings and said the hell with it, watched the three stakes races on NBC and the Masters.

17-3?? And a 20-7 beatdown by Indiana? What will it take to make a change?

Unfortunately you are correct. We will be fortunate to win one against Mizz, then we lose at least 8 probably 9 against Florida, Vandy, and tennessee. Those could get ugly.

Ugly? In what sense? You mean worse than 20-7, or 17-3 or 10-1, like several recent losses? If those weren't ugly, I would hate to see worse.

You cite the brand new stadium. I'm talking about decades upon decades of history and mismanagement. My statement is 1000% correct.

Bourbon or not you’re exactly right. UK is going to have a pay to get a good coach in here. Facilities are good and talent level in KY is better than football and basketball. We’ll see but I think this is it for Mingione.

Yeah don’t get me started on this topic. UK has put a basketball only culture over the athletic department as a whole for decades. I think we just lucked out with Stoops.

We did. Mitch has done a lot of great stuff. I'm not one of these fans calling for his head. UK athletics has never been better in its history.

He did hire John Cohen. That was a home run. Gary Henderson was fine. He made sense at the time. But he was Tubby is Cohen was Pitino.

We get worse each uear under Mingione. Mitch gave him this year as an extension. It needs to be his last unless some miracle occurs.

It's fair to point out Mitch goofed on Gillispie and Joker. But he did land Cal with booster help, and Mark Stoops walked in to his office and sold himself with his presentation. Mitch made that hire.

There just really isn't any legitimate reason we can't get a good baseball staff. If the administration shows the resolve to win at baseball we absolutely can.

The difference is UT had the foresight to make a change. And they caught lighting in a bottle with Vitello. UK needs that.

Ehh. Kind of. UT made what I thought was a great hire in Serrano. He'd taken 2 different teams to the CWS and was a prior UT assistant. He flopped. I was surprised. They gave him 6 years before they cut him loose. They won 12 league games in his best season, year 3. So even they gave a real long leash before making the miracle hire.

Serrano was a weird hire for Tennessee. He never seemed to fit in in the SEC. I didn’t realize he was there for 6 years. But my point still stands. Just going on past history with Barnhartt, he won’t make a change unless he’s forced too. Look at the leash he gave Henderson and I’m not completely convinced that if Henderson hadn’t stepped down he would still be here.

Cohen was a home run and Kentucky missed a huge opportunity to build on the success that Cohen had here. The only reason Cohen left when he did was he was promised facility upgrades but had the money pulled out from under him.

I think Barnhartt goofed on the Gillespie hire but at the time he was a hot young up and coming coach. A lot of people applauded that hire but then it crashed and burned. And we don’t talk about Joker.

I’m not saying Barnhartt should be fired or even should be on a hot seat. The athletic program is in the best spot it’s been in since I can remember. But his incompetence with the baseball program is a black eye to him.

Mingione should have been fired last year. There is no doubt in my mind about that. There is zero reason Kentucky shouldn’t have a top 10-15 baseball program. But it is going to take the right coach. And Minge isn’t it.

Henderson was kind of lucky. He had some bad years and then 2012 happened and saved his job. Then two more lean years and he looked dead in the water and 2014 again saved his job.

Clearly, the issue was that these were not consistent but felt more like random wins. Still, those teams have so much more talent than we have now, especially in starting pitchers.

No doubt about the talent issue. Henderson was a great pitching coach.

Henderson just didn't fire me up as a fan like Cohen did. Cohen kind of had that blue collar mentality like Stoops. Henderson was more like David Bell is personality wise

In unrelated news UofLs game today was canceled....some jackass called in a bomb threat. Disgusting.

I heard through the grape vine that in the toughest times Henderson would shutdown and couldn't handle any pressure at all. Don't know how true it is, but always found it interesting.

I heard something very similar. Talking to a former player I was told that there were a lot of times that the catcher would have to call his own pitches. Also heard that Brian Green coached a lot of the day to day more so than Henderson did.

That's exactly what I heard from the parent of a former player. The catcher... can't remember which one it was now, would call all pitches because Hendo would just clam up in the tough situations.

Two names ...Andy Green or Roger Williams.

Love to have Green involved as like a hitting coach but not sure I want to give him the reins at this point. If we were in a good spot and could afford the risk of a guy that's never coached college then I'd be more willing.

I certainly hope Barnhart already has some names in his pocket. He’s probably going to need them in about 8-9 weeks.

I just glanced over the game online and the box score for this weekend....did we really pitch Church? Is he a pitcher? Also, who hit the wall in CF? I didn't get a good look at the number on his back. I think it was McCarthy? Has he been out there at all this season?

What are we doing?

I don't even think Church was highly thought of as a HS pitcher. Also, note that we went to Church ahead of RS freshman Byers and freshman Frieda. I also don't think Cotto pitched this weekend, so I imagine that they are saving him to face mighty Bellarmine.

It looks like McCarthy started in CF one time this season... game 3 against Jacksonville State. Fogel also started in CF once.

I don’t understand how a school that prides itself on being the “State” school allows itself to be humiliated by being so far behind the city college in primary sports such as Baseball and Women’s Basketball. And it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s not the case in Men’s Basketball soon as well.

Ultimately it comes down to Athletic Dept leadership and Coaching. Frankly I think they are lucky that Lawson is still here as Coach of Softball. If she decides to leave I expect a huge drop off there. And Football has seen a slight uptick but more than anything they are fortunate that UofL hasn’t made the right hire in that program.

If UK baseball doesn’t miraculously make the NCAAT, they need to fire Mingione and show they are serious about being a contender in all sports!

Bad take. "Slight uptick" in football? Huh? Two ten win seasons in four years is a slight uptick!? Sorry, I sat through too much bad football for too many years to let that pass.
