CATS @ #5 in AP

That is a good spot for UK. They just need a good seeding for the NCAA....young team, will suffer some ups and downs this year....what matters is what they look like in February....

And the good thing, we have 3 good opportunities ahead
to prove it's deserved or to move up before conference play.

I agree, we should be about 3. 5 is too low. Kansas is no good. Michigan St. a joke at #1. How does a Louisville move up after losing a 13 pt 1st half lead, what an F-n joke.

I'll take it. Because we certainly aren't playing like a top five team.

Wait, what?!

I said after the loss I'd expect us to be anywhere from 6-11. 5 is surprising. Now you're saying because they put us at 5--and not THREE, everyone is disrespecting us?

We got shell shocked by an unranked team. They beat the (then #1)#5 team in the country and UCLA is still unranked. People don't view them as that good of a team. And they still saw it fit to put is in the top 5.

I never thought we would stick around that high in the polls. But I did think a win over Duke on a neutral floor would hold more weight than a true road loss at UCLA.

I agree Jiggy, that is my point, we travel across country to play on a Thursday night 3 time zones away (don't get me started on that), this was a classic set up game for a loss. Not saying 5 is not warranted, just that I believe we are much better than the teams ahead of us when all things are equal. The Duke win, should have more merit. Like I said, you hear people say, this team is more of a team than last year after that game. Now after this game, this club is soft, they aren't good and will be the worst team since the 13 club

I'm good with the rankings - thought they'd put us around #8. Probably should've been at #5 to start the season - but hindsight is 20/20

I was kind of surprised by the #1 this season. It's one thing when you get the Harrison twins and WCS back to go with a crazy good recruiting class like Towns, Lyles, Ulis, etc.

But after losing so much, I honestly thought we'd be closer to #5 or so in the pre-season polls

Not just that but Ulis, Lee and Poy were not at 100% for that game.

It looks like the pollsters took all of that into consideration as they should have.

Watch what we do to Eastern on Wed. night and then watch what we do to ASU on Sat.

Barring injuries or set backs to guys banged up I predict we blow both of them out of the gym.

Last year Duke got their asses handed to them against Miami losing by a larger margin than we did to UCLA. They won the national championship, so an early or even mid-season loss or two isn't the end of the world if you see improvement. Kentucky looked awful against UCLA, and as I had posted after South Florida, that despite crushing them, we were losing a lot of rebounds in the second half to a marginal team that was dominating us in the paint. So, there were and perhaps still some flaws to this current team. I don't disagree with Booker's post either that we are soft, which might have been done to motivate the team.

Guys. We aren't a top 10 team. We may be by March but how they played Thursday was high school ball at best. Have to learn to do more than rely on dunks/lobs, have to rebound and defend.

I hope we figure out what to do if the other teams clog the lane again

You're correct but I am glad that one reason that it changed was because of injuries not while everyone is healthy. Early December and we have had Humphries hurt and missed games, Ulis hurt and missed games, and then played hurt. and then Lee who was hurt and missed almost all of the UCLA game.

You forgot to mention that Cal didn't sleep well the night before the game.
The gym was too hot during the shootaround.
Skal is still have lingering effects from that earthquake.
Willis slipped off to the nearest Indian reservation to visit his kinfolk.
Humphries lost his stuffed Koala bear.

There was no way we shouldn't still be #1 if the voters was privy to all this info as to why we couldn't beat an unranked team that lost to Monmouth.

uhh.... Kansas no good? Michigan state a joke at #1? What the hell are you smoking? This year it's wide open man, there's not a dominat team out there .. Well except UK ( around March ) other than that, those teams deserve to be at the top right now and really who cares... You can be #1 all year but it really comes down to March and that's all that matters my friend..

Man, you aren't biased one bit.
How can MSU be a joke @ #1? They are playing by far the best RIGHT NOW. That will eventually change though as their ceiling is lower.
Kansas is no good??? Again, you are letting your hatred cloud your judgment. What are you going to say if they beat the crap out of UK in January? Are they all the sudden going to be great after that?
You think UK should be #3 huh? I was ecstatic with the ranking we were given, the pollsters must not have seen the game Thursday night. I had us at 8 or 9 based on what they (the polls) did to UNC after they lost a true road game without their pg.
Sometimes you have to take the blue goggles off.

We lose one game and everyone around the country goes from us being better than last years team, to our worst team since the NIT team. Go figure
Exaggerate much? Nobody said this team is /was better than last year's team and nobody said that they are worse than the 13 team. Get a grip.

I think you are putting too much of a positive spin on this years team at this point in the season. This team has gaping holes in it's game right now snd the last thing we want is to compare UK to KU or MSU. Yes we beat Duke but since then we have showed we have a lot of warts. We definitely are not "much better than the teams that are ahead of us". Pump the brakes. We got a gift by getting the #5 spot in the rankings. We lost to a 3 loss team that is poorly coached and doesn't have tge talent we have. We should be ranked in the 7 or 8 spot IMO.

Excuses excuses. We lost to a bad team. Look what they did to UNC** after they lost a true road game without their best player/point guard. They dropped UNC** to 9 from 1.

Duke also won on the road at Wisconsin before the Miami debacle. That goes a long way on the confidence scale.

Perfect post. How anyone thinks we got shafted by getting the 5 spot in the rankings is laughable. We have looked really bad in every game since the duke game. We looked awful Thursday night, "High school ball at best" is a good way to describe what we saw from UK.
I don't think some people realize just how bad UCLA is.

I figured we would have dropped more. We lost to a mediocre UCLA team by double digits and we could hardly even get it to single digits the whole 2nd half. Having said that, the three teams that for sure should be ahead of us after said loss are so I cannot argue that much. ISU makes sense as well seeing as they are undefeated.

I was thinking 7 or 8, but this has been an already crazy season with a lot of ranked upsets. I think the top 25 will do a lot of shuffling this year.

As long as we stay in the top 15, with a late season surge I'll be happy. I think seeding will be important to us this year, to try and secure a chance at playing the S16 and E8 in Louisville. The last 4 NCAAT games at yum were basically a home game.

Most coaches with an BB IQ realize that UCLA played out of their minds and UK faced a whistle not seen this year, and that Lee is a huge factor. This loss is one L that you write off and trust me - UCLA wants no part of this UK team come March!

Your racist comment tells me all I need to know.
I stated facts while you went off on a goofy and racist tangent.
Truth hurts doesnt it? We were banged up and lost by 10 at UCLA. If healthy which we should be on Wed. Nite we win the game.
See how that works?

Wow Jeff. You condoning a racist post drops you down a few pegs in my big blue book.
Also, dont confuse excuses like that clown gave with the injury facts I gave.
Dont gravitate to the darkside Jeff.
