Whether one is in favor of replacing Cal or keeping Cal, if the vibe going around right now that Mitch is going to keep Cal but force changes, it has catastrophe written all over it. I can’t remember a time that an AD or owner for professional teams gave a coach another year with conditions and that worked out well. It is simply a way to avoid the hard decision while making it look like something is happening.

We play Duke next year in November in Atlanta. Lose that game by double digits and the year could quickly imploded. Either Cal is the coach or not the coach, make a decision Mitch. This fickle approach that he is conditionally the coach is nuts and leaves both sides of the fan base unhappy.

That is a fools errand. Cal may nod and agree...to save his job. But when the season begins he will do whatever he wants. Would MB fire him mid season. No. So that is unworkable and BS.
No he wouldn’t fire him mid season, he will wait. Funny how Mitch just expects Cal to give full control of the program back to the athletics department but Cal won’t allow that.

This. Mitch is kicking the cam down the road and it will explode in his face.

I guarantee we will get smashed that game. We couldn’t even win with a better team this year up 14 most of the game.

Cal being back is bad for this program and I’ll die on that hill. What happens if he has an even worse season next year? There’s going to be so much pressure on all the players on that team, it’s not fair to them.
If it’s worse then we won’t have to sit here wondering what the decision is because that decision is made by his own doing. I also think all the pressure will be on cal and not so much the players. Every gun pointed in his direction. The kids can skate all year

Barney is gone by this time next year if he brings cal back. He may already be planning to exit and leave the problem for the next guy

Barnhart might be about to fire Calipari. This is high level SEC sports, you don’t survive this. I realize all angles here, but nobody survives something like this. There’s a good chance Mitch is fielding calls from boosters willing to help buy him out. The pressure to fire Calipari is immense. Another year and it’s just going to get worse. You also set a really bad precedent for future coaches by allowing this blatant disrespect from Calipari.

Cal will spew his garbage and Mitch will bring him back. All current players will test draft waters. 5 or 6 will get drafted. 2-3 will transfer and Cal will piece mill another roster and it is rinse and repeat.
He did spew his garbage in that call in show, for a hour it was nonstop bullshit. He even said he wasn’t changing

It is called doubling down on stupid!! But it will probably happen.

Significant changes will never work with Cal in charge. Plus, if for some odd reason they do work, then it just reinforces the sad fact that Cal wouldn't change them on his own....for years now. He's paid to know how to make most of the right decisions. And I even think he knows what most of them are. IT'S NOT HIS PRIORITY, THOUGH.

Good post. I am trying really hard to believe this is what is happening. It makes the most sense and the results are there for this to be happening. 🙏👍🤞

It is Mitch trying to cover his own ass. If he lets Cal stay all while saying I laid the law down on changes that need to be made some fans will say "See Mitch projected strength and gave a roadmap of changes needed". When in all honesty the only thing Mitch is doing is trying to wait at least another year, so the buyout goes into the 20 something million instead of 33 million this year. Mitch put himself in a rock and hard place with the contract and he knows he can't fire Cal and then have the money needed to attract the right hire or pay their potential buyout.

Well said and correct. The layers of apathy and aggravation have built up over time. Cal used to get by on the hopes of the next incoming recruiting class but now that is even gone. Remember after the 9-16 debacle? And then the St Peters flame out? I didnt think he could get the fans back from those but they did for one last time just because of the recruiting classes coming in.

But this time that magic trick no longer works. Fans have now finally realized it doesnt matter who we have coming in any more. You cant get any higher than number one ranked classes and those dont work. You cant have home town heros and phenoms who are ranked one and two in the mock drafts who even make a difference.
At this point theres no signs of hope for things to change, except the coach himself making big changes himself.
But last night it was the same old cheerleading stuff and nothing to say he himself was going to be better at what he does.
