Cam Johnson

Every year fans wring their hands about stuff (myself included) and Cal delivers. He recognizes the strengths and weaknesses of this roster better than any of us.

He knows we need shooters. We just need to set back and what he can do to address it. His options range from homeruns (Knox) to triples, doubles, or sacrifice flys. Somewhere in between would be fine.

What do you mean, wrings their hands? This is a message board. We come here to talk about things. We need a guard--seems like a thing to talk about. No one doubts Cal will deliver. Just a matter of who is our best option, and who will we get?

I think if we get him, he starts or at least gets starter minutes off the bench. I doubt he would come just to sit the bench behind Freshmen. Plus Cal doesn't sign guys like this to be practice players. This kid has a chance to make it to the NBA in the right situation. Cal wouldn't undermine that to get a guy he will play just a few minutes a game.

Johnson is exactly what we need to complement Diallo on the wing. We have a slasher, we need a shooter. If he comes here, I think he starts.

If Briscoe is back, we definitely need him. Two slashers in the backcourt (Briscoe/Diallo), got to have a shooter or teams will pack it in all day long.

Cal needs to go get this guy and Bamba..I'm worried we won't win a title until we get some experience back to go with the OAD..Cal should try to use the 12 team as a blueprint..2-3 OAD 2-3 veteran starters

Agreed.

If we dare to dream, we need Briscoe and Bam back.

Then have sure-fire OAD's in Diallo and Bamba.

Finish with either Johnson (veteran) or Knox (OAD).

G Briscoe/Green
G Diallo/Alexander
F Knox (or Johnson)/Vanderbilt
F Adebayo/Washington/Killeya-Jones
F Bamba/Richards/Wynyard

Would be a good rotation with SKJ, if he doesn't leave, and a guy like Smith rounding it out. Extremely young but a team that's skilled enough to make some noise in March.

That would be best case scenario but I can't see us getting Bamba and Bam coming back. Also don't see us getting Knox but I'd love to be wrong.

I'm fine with that team, but it's not likely to make a deep run, IMHO. I can see that team struggling, being a 4 or lower seed, and bowing out in the 2nd round or S16. Too young. And this Freshman class is suppose to be weak. Diallo and Bamba would be the only likely first rounders. Green is limited by his size and the rest of the Freshmen have glaring weaknesses in their game.

I would start Green, Diallo, Johnson, Gabriel, and Bamba. Johnson is a great shooter at the 3. Gabriel is an improving shooter at the 4. Green is a good shooter at the 1. That spreads the floor opening up driving lanes for the guards. Use Vanderbilt, Washington, and Richards off the bench.

True.

I think Bam goes pro, Knox goes to Duke or UNC, and we get Bamba.

I could see Briscoe coming back. He really needs to. Add Johnson and we are in pretty good shape.

With Bamba wanting to play PF, starters would be:

G Briscoe
G Diallo
G Johnson
F Bamba
F Richards

With Green as the fourth guard coming in and Vanderbilt backing up the 3, Washington at the 4 (with Bamba moving to the 5 when Richards came out). Pretty good 8-man rotation. I think It would be better to start Washington at the 4, and Bamba at the 5 to stretch the D, but I think Cal is recruiting Bamba as a 4.

Got a feeling it's going to be: Green, Diallo, Washington (or Vanderbilt), Bamba, and Richards starting with Alexander, Smith, Vanderbilt (or Washington), SKJ, and Hump (or Wynyard) off the bench.
