Cal's Replacement

It doesn't matter how many great players you recruit, you still have to coach them. If your coach starts getting the shakes when the game is on the line the players are going to follow suit. You hire Miller and you are getting another Bill Self. Is that what you people want ? Not me !!!

Yeah, I'd prolly want him. If he more than happy if he got the job after cal retires/ leaves.

Have not read any replies but i like

Southern Cal coach Andy Enfield. Has turned around 2 programs into major players. Has nba ties and can coach and now drawing interesting from top notch players. Plays a very fun style of ball.

Then the reg namesake head coaches of Arizona, Florida and some various nba teams.

I really think Avery Johnson and Sean Miller make more sense than any other possible college coach , if we are talking about 5-0 years from now.

Kerr or Stevens would be my favorites if a NBA coach is the better option.

After lots of thought, I have finally decided on my list:

1. Brad Stevens
2. Avery Johnson
3. Sean Miller
4. Steve Kerr
5. Billy Donovan
6. Mike White
7. Cuonzo Martin
8. Frank Martin
9. Bryce Drew
10. Brad Calipari (If Cal is our coach for another 10 years or more)

Thoughts that no one will care about.

1. Brad Stevens will be a HoF coach and never leave the NBA.
2. Sean Miller has re-made Arizona, and it's his baby now. He ain't leaving for another college job.
3. Billy D: OKC is good again, and getting better. He built the Florida basketball program to what it is today. IF he leaves the NBA, which I doubt he will, I don't think it will be for Florida's SEC Rival.
4. Archie: I just can't see it on either side with him taking the IU job.
5. Steve Kerr had a hell of a time getting through the season--add in he has the best team in the NBA, why would he ever leave?

6. Avery Johnson--IF he would leave Bama for UK, I think he could work. Recruiting really well. Everyone respects him. I think he would do well.
7. Mike White: Just not sure yet. I don't think he's married to Florida. Had a nice year this season. Will be interesting to see how he does going forward.
8. Greg Marshall: I read an article a couple years back about how money wasn't everything to him and how happy he was at home. That's always in the back of my mind. As long as WSU is competitive, I don't know why he'd leave. But I'd love to have him.

9. Cuonzo got a lot of elite talent at Cal, did nothing with it. He can recruit.

Someone I personally think would be interesting:
Fred Hoiberg. The Bulls are a wasteland after the off-season. He's well respected in basketball circles, and widely considered one of the best young basketball minds. He may slide easily into an open NBA gig. But if he's open to returning to college, I think he's a slam dunk.

Someone called in to KSR yesterday and suggested that Richard Pitino or Travis Ford replace Cal when he decides to call it quits. I get it that people love Ford because he played here, but the guy is an average coach at best who's never taken a team beyond the 2nd round of the Tournament. He's nowhere near the caliber of coach UK would need, especially to replace a legend like Cal whenever that day comes.

The Richard Pitino suggestion was laughable. His argument was that "Richard won an NIT title." Any UK fan who would want Pitino Jr. to coach here should just turn-in their BBN card right now. It's just baffling some of the coaches that people suggest to replace Calipari, but Richard Pitino is the absolute worst of the worst.

I don't know if this has already been said and I'm not about to back through three pages of posts to find out. That being said, why can't you people just enjoy Cal while he is here? Why do these posts pop up every other week?

You have to be "that guy" don't you? My post had nothing to do with looking beyond Calipari. I was calling out the utter stupidity of an idiot who called into a radio show and suggested that two clowns such as Travis Ford and Richard Pitino should be considered to replace him. Get over yourself!

Nobody cares about this...lol, j/k. Good thoughts. I think it is interesting you named 3 SEC coaches, I thought thi was a terrible league. Frank Martin aint bad either

Not sure "what guy" you are referring to. I simply said that there were to many postings about Cal's replacement. Sorry you can't deal with common sense.
