I guess the problem I have with it is that it is indicative that he's not spending his every waking hour concentrating on how he's going to mold his team into a winner. He's got things to worry about other than the state of the Jaguars coach search and Marvin Lewis' employment.

I don't know anybody in any profession that spending every waking hour working. And honestly, the people I know that spend an extreme amount of time either doing or thinking about their jobs are much worse than the ones that spend time doing other things. My wife's GPA went up a full half point in college after she met me. Why? Because I quit letting her spend all her time worrying and studying for her tests. I made her take time pretty much every day to go do something enjoyable. The result were her grades going up because the self induced stress was gone.

Marvin Lewis is a good football coach. There have been worse retreads in the NFL than Lewis.

I have no idea what OP is talking about. The problem in Cinci wasn't Marvin, it was the front office.

Marvin's issue was not getting to the playoffs....just couldn't get a win there 0-7. Had some very talented rosters. Maybe some future HOFers.
After the '15 loss in the playoffs....it went off the rails pretty bad.

Bingo. Burnout is real folks. Even for passions. You’re brain gets stuck in a rut and gets tunnel vision very quickly.

It’s also why we have holistic education and arts supplementing STEM programs. Because it helps your brain look at problems from different angles and through different tints of glass.

Your mind and spirit and body have to take a break and do other things.

In the 11 seasons between Wyche and Lewis the Bengals had 0 winning seasons and only 1 season @.500

In the 16 seasons of Lewis the Bengals had 7 winning seasons and 3 seasons of .500 football.


In the entire history of the Bengals they've had 17 seasons of over .500 football. He's easily one of the best Bengals head coaches of the franchise. To say he is a horrible coach is a lie. He's not a great coach, his teams did underachieve in the playoffs, butthe overall sample size bears out that he was a good coach.

It was also no small feat to have the success he had considering the AFC North also had the Ravens and one of the best run organizations in all of sports, the Steelers in it.


As a Browns fan I think I know what good vs bad coaching looks like.
