Mitch woke up the other day.. During his morning routine decided to check out the forums.. Got the feeling that recruits were worried about Cal and the NBA.. Ponied up when he didn't need to.. To make it big national news for the sport in an otherwise very down time of the college basketball year.. Where recruits will surely see the headline..

Timing is also to squash NBA rumors so he can actually recruit without all the negative recruiting by other schools saying Cal's going to the NBA.

Billy Donovan signed a contract extension on April 3rd. Looks like these extensions keep them tied to a school for a long time.
Yep. Those contracts mean as much as does Pitino's wedding ring when presented with a random skank in an Italian restaurant.
That wasn't so much a knock on cal, as it is a my opinion for any coach in the country. NO coach desrves that kind of money, especially in college. He's the best coach for here, but come on, 8 million dollars?
True. And the UL football and basketball coaches have proven to be two of the biggest scum buckets in the history of sports. I'm sure you tard fans are proud.
It's probably gonna cost us a couple more million for that. When the next NBA coach gets fired well give him another extension & hopefully enough so he will stay.

I don't think he is. While I could comment on the overall circumstance where a mere basketball coach can pull down that kind of scratch at a public university, I won't knock Call for the job he's done or his willingness and ability to procure the money. I certainly would like to earn that kind of coin, even for one year. I'd never have money troubles again.
What a coach is worth considers factors way beyond W/L though that plays into the equation. Think of the mega mega bucks the UK Basketball program is worth, merchandise, endorsements, on and on and on. Not to mention the opportunity it provides for the University to market the academics/research opportunities at UK. All things considered Coach Cal is worth every penny to the UK bball program, the fans, the state, and the University as a whole. That aside I personally wish we had a buyout clause that would in the least force a team to think before they made an offer to him. Of course when you are in Cal's shoes he can literally call the shots and I'm certain given his leverage in contract talks there's no way he's agreeing to any buyout clauses.
