California's recent recruiting

Gonzo is not a good coach and Cal has not been relevant really since the late 50s.

Why do you think he's "not a good coach"? He took a Missouri State program from 11-20 when he arrived to 26-9 in only two years. He then took over a Tennessee program that was in shambles facing NCAA sanctions/probation because of the Pearl cheating scandal, and had them in the Sweet 16 only a couple years later. And now he goes to Cal where his very first recruiting class there is the best one in the school's history.

Sure sounds like a good coach to me. Everywhere he's gone he's made things better than they were when he arrived.

UCLA went to the sweet 16 last season and probably didn't deserve to be in the tournament. Does it make Alford a good coach? No.
Last I checked, Cal was still awful last season. All the sudden, 5 star players are flocking to an unproven coach at a broken basketball program?

Whether it is true or not this has been explained and is believable.

Cuonzo has a solid coaching record.

Rabb stayed home.

Martin was on Brown for a long time and Brown wanted to be different.

Martin has long ties to Swanigan's people and Swanigan has mentioned in the past being a package deal with Brown in Rabb last year.

There may be more to it, but it is not unreasonable, especially with this year's class.

So using this criteria it would seem LSU should be the ones under the microscope, not Cal. As mentioned Cuonzo has a track record. What does Jones have? They are lining up to play for him despite the fact that he got undressed by Mark Gottfried in the tourney. If anyone is doing anything funky in recruiting Id look around the bayou long before I looked West. Problem is Cal is getting guys we want so obviously they are cheating. If those kids had went to LSU we would have the pitchforks out headed their way instead! Bottom line we aint gonna land everybody every year. Some years will be leaner than others. Just because kids are going elsewhere shouldnt mean we should start throwing around the cheating accusations. As we all know its a pretty weak approach unless youre holding the smoking gun. The rest of the country just thinks sour grapes when we act like this.

Martin is a good coach, even if he favors a Big 10 brand of play. I'm trying to figure out the difference between a 'strong black coach' and a 'strong white coach'(if such a thing exists in college basketball vernacular) other than skin color.

I guess it must be hard to accept the fact that his post was very positive, right?
