Cal shuts Jerry Tipton down

Does the Courier Journal have a version of Jerry Tipton for Little Brothel? I don't read either of those rags so I wouldn't know...

Credit to the person that coined the term Little Brothel...well done BTW!

Tipton has to be such a pest to Cal and the players. The dude ask the same question a million times, just worded differently.

Oh well, with out him we would've never gotten the twitter brilliance that is notJerryTipton.

The main issue with Jerry is that his "gotcha" antics are so transparent that they wouldn't work on any intelligent person, and certainly not someone who is as good of a public speaker as Cal.

I'm glad no one brought up the fact that he was also trying to get Cal to fall into talking about racism when he mentioned Jordan Spieth and the OAD criticisms.

It's just obnoxious, and tired.

Yesterday, Jason Anderson was saying how UK fans cry about nobody in the press holding UL's feet to the fire, while not acknowledging that the same is true in Lexington. Dude has obviously not heard about Tipton. Nobody even remotely similar to Tipton in this city.

Jarms, I am certain if Cal wished, then it would happen. It's refreshing to me that UK allows Tipton to sneak, backstab, and continue to troll his way around year after year

Our program has become so transparent with Cal and Sandy....It's an open book for all haters out there to devise ways to undermine our program. Yet they fail over and over again because there's nothing to see.

Now are we beyond reproach? Absolutely not. But damn, I like our chances with the current leadership.

Jerry is just doing his job, someone has to be the bad guy.

Baloney. He baits Cal to get a reaction, and then plays the victim. Cal already answered the question, and he knew no additional thing was going to be said about it, so there was no point in asking again other than to get that response, so he can tweet about how mean old Cal won't answer his questions. If his job is to run off countless subscribers, then yeah he's doing his job very well.

I'm a first amendment zealot, and I think it's great that Jerry exercises his right to be obnoxious as possible by asking a question that's already been answered in the same press conference - just because it's the most negative question available.

I also think it's great when Coach Cal exercises his right to tell Jerry to shut up because he's already answered the substantial part of the question (regarding eligibility), and he's not there to give Jerry juicy gossip tidbits.

I agree Tipton is a totally idiot and I never ready anything he has ever written. The good thing about someone like that is everyone watches out for him. He doesn't allow anyone to cut corners because you know he will blow up the story. When players and coaches alike see the media as a potential enemy (ie Tipton) they are very careful with what they say and how they say it. This may have prevented our players and coaches from saying something they would have regret.

I agree...... I would like to think I would support Jerry's right to say or ask whatever he wanted.... Then just smile and say... "next" every time.

Eventually, I think he would get the hint. You can say or ask whatever you want.... First Amendment and all,,,,, but I do not have to acknowledge you....

Why don't they pull his credentials and not let him participate? Serious question. Can't they do that?

I would like to think that Mitch could do that at any time and I wonder why he doesn't every single time something like this comes up with Tipton. In fact, I totally blame MB for letting this charade of a journalist continue his agenda of negative slants and misreporting on UK basketball and athletics. I don't really get mad at Tipton anymore.

Jerry lost all right to have a ring side seat at any UK athletics event when he basically just made sh!t up about Patterson's new truck. JT didn't write ambiguously, it wasn't a typo, no miscommunications, etc., etc. He literally made sh!t up in trying to ignite an eligibility issue for Patrick.

Jerry doesn't need direct access to the UK athletics dept. to be the beat writer for basketball. He can stay in his HL office and beat it all he wants to.

Well, it's really the only question that matters.

I can think of a dozen questions that are far more relevant considering NOBODY knows for sure what the NCAA has or has not found since the investigation is in process. Maybe Jerry can ask Cal next time who the next President of the US will be? It would be just as relevant.

No, I hear you and totally understand UK/Cal saying "we have nothing to say."

I think he (or somebody) had to push the question ... because it's a big story. UK had to say what they said (nothing). And exchange is now your biggest national college basketball story now for the next 24 hours on every outlet imaginable.*

* That doesn't involve prostitutes.

Cal is a better man than me. I think I would have taken his press pass long ago, but Calipari just keeps letting him come, but then he embarrasses him when he acts like a jerk.

And yes, I'm all for free speech. He answered the early questions about Skal and his handler, but then Tipton asked it in a fourth different way and Calipari had enough at that point. I don't blame him at all. I love Cal's honesty in this situation.

Tipton is a jerk, plain and simple. I get it that he feels he must ask the tough questions, but his "I'm a Pulitzer Prize winning reporter who asks the hard-hitting questions of the hometown school because I have great integrity" schtick is long past old. The only reason Jerry hangs around is A. Nobody else would hire him. B. He's desperately hoping he can finish burying UK and C. He's too old to do anything else.

I agree it's a very relevant question. But based on Franklin's tweet and Cal's response, it sounds like it was asked, and asked again, and asked again.

It's one thing to say Tipton shouldn't be allowed to ask the question. It's another to say he shouldn't be allowed to ask it repeatedly.......

Maybe he didn't really get an answer, don't know, wasn't there. He does have a history which understandably precludes giving him the benefit of doubt.....

Totally completely irrelevant - of course it is. Why would any Kentucky fan think the star player being unqualified is relevant. YAAI

For the record, the issue is relevant but the question (after being asked multiple times) wasn't. It is in the hands of the NCAA and we have to wait for them to investigate and rule. And, for the record, we have all seen Jerry badger people with the same question over and over. He did that to Mr Patterson too.

Didn't he also call Wesley Witherspoon when we were recruiting him and ask him why he would want to play at UK?

Thin skin and high blood pressure are a dangerous combo. The Herald-Leader was widely praised for its coverage of UK basketball during the Eddie Sutton-era scandals. That became their shtick. Tipton is just carrying out corporate policy. If the shtick was to carry water, I imagine he'd carry water. Likes? Doesn't like? It's a job. I imagine he has all of an axe to grind as this guy:

I can't imagine anyone here gets their news of UK sports from the Herald-Leader. Why risk a stroke by letting it get to you?

Come on guys, we are not Louisville - we do not build and control the media. Good for Jerry and good for Cal.

I have never in my life ever heard of any person defending him. Of course, I dropped the Leader many years ago because of him, so I'm not a good source. Here however, I've yet to remember one.
Ummmm, someone just did it four posts above yours.

Tipton is scum. The question was asked and answered. Cal said that was all he was gonna say. Prick Jerry just had to push it and make the story about him.

I look forward to whizzing on his grave someday.

Jerry is a jerk. He takes the negative position of a UK issue 99% of the time. Cal has answered that particular question too many times, apparently. Jerry seems to love seeing UK fail, in any way. Personally, I wouldn't give a crap, I would strip him of his credentials around the program if I were Cal.
