Cal said his guards "let the bigs have it"

I dont like this approach. It'd cause more harm than good singling out a unit.

They're obviously the team weakness, but its not gonna make them produce. Their struggles has more to do with skill & IQ than effort/motor.

I think in some cases it's effort

The camera panned the UK bench when Alex fouled out and Marcus and Skal had a smiles on their faces. I thought that told the story for why Ulis and Murray were upset with our Bigs. They just don't have enough "attention to detail" in there play.

Alex, Marcus and Skal just seem to go brain dead when it comes to boxing out, giving up inside position, grabbing a rebound with 2 hands, taking the correct angle on defense, going up strong on the block and using their athleticism to create space to get a shot off.

It is amazing that Alex is a Sr. and Marcus a Jr. yet they still struggle with the above areas. Skal is NO WHERE near a top 10 NBA prospect at this time.

Will they get to a point where we have a shot at a Final 4 by March?

Poythress and Lee were like ...

Our backcourt is good enough to win a championship.

In order to have a shot, they need the interior guys to scrap and fight for every loose ball. They need them to defend and rebound. It's not too much to ask.

Briscoe plays with 10x the heart of our bigs. Winner vs. losers in some cases.

In some, sure.

Overall struggles though, no. The skill level of the frontcourt is painfully low right now.

Go easy. We've got half the board still in denial about the talent levels of our "bigs".

A poster with 15,000 post said Skal will go top 5 and be a great NBA player. He's got "nothing you can teach" I believe.

His guards have no room to talk. They can't hit open shots, they turned it over lots of times, and they left open guys that hit 3's.

You can tell this team is weak and soft when the bigs lets guards get all over them. Wow

I don't think the guards played good enough, especially on defense, to call out anyone. Ulis got backdoored big time in the first half and Murray lost his man under the LSU basket on an inbounds play, left him wide open. No, they all played sloppy.

Rupp would have take them into a barn during the summer and forced them to dig 25 foot graves with bee hives surrounding their heads.

Cal will hire a psychologist to find out "why the bully on the court is mean to you"

It's very true that these generations under 25 are incredibly weak. Good lord high school football where I coach is full of girls.

Young American dudes make French boy bands look like a pack of pit bulls.

Our bigs this year are a sad lot. Skal is so soft it defies belief.

Tonight's game almost made me wonder if we should just play Mulder at the 4. He showed more commitment to rebounding and fighting inside than any of our supposed "bigs" have this year.

Ummmm Ulis and Murray combined for 44 points tonight.
Those two had every right to rip the dips another one.

I think what some are saying is cal shouldn't be generalizing like that when Briscoe should be singled out himself.

Poy looked disinterested tonite even more than his usual disinterest. He's a sixth man type Always has been...

They did do a good job scoring but scoring points isn't the only aspect of the game. They all played bad defensively and turned the ball over way to many times.

Well...they're not totally wrong...

we got no brawlers....we are getting beat up in the post...

and there was one play i believe where one of the guards was on the ground scrapping for a loose ball in the paint and he was surrounded by opposing jerseys...that's unacceptable...I'd be heated if I was that guy and i saw that no one came to help...I'd light somebody up in the film room..."listen here you MFers...ya'll ever leave me out on my own again and I see no attempt at help or hustle...stuff is going to happen and you gonna learn how to fight..."

Skal is finesse...it may have worked in high school, aau, and the goof around all star circuit and he may make a fine living with that in the league...but right now it ain't cutting the mustard...

the curious case of Alex Poythress will go down as one of the greatest enigmas in UK basketball history...i love him...perhaps a favorite...no doubt about his athleticism and heart...but all we have are flashes...we've been waiting for 4 years for him to just do something so spectacular...if whatever was supposed to happen hasn't happened yet, it ain't going to...truly a wonderful mystery...

Lee is inconsistent...not sure if that's all his fault or if some blame lies with Cal...he was on a decent roll the past 4 games...and then he has a game like tonight...

Humphries is a big body...but he's young and not quite developed or experienced enough...he could get that way with more playing time...but he's simply not getting enough run...Cal ought to just leave him in there the rest of the season so he can take his lumps and hopefully by march he'll be something...but that won't happen...which may be part of the problem as well...

we got a roster full of athletes and lottery talent...but no brawlers...we got extremely talented kids...but no men...we have outstanding student athletes, but no fother muckers on the court...

We'll lose a few more games...with each one our road in march gets tougher...right now as things stand, we may reach the sweet 16 with the help of a favorable bracket...and that's being extremely optimistic...

Mulder should have been playing more all year. He seems to have a bad habit of underhand shovel passes though and he gets lost a bit but when you haven't been on the court it isn't difficult to get lost

I would have liked to overhear that conversation. Ulis seems like someone you wouldn't want to piss off.

All Cal has talked about is the guards showing up the bigs. Cal ya have to have good to great guards that take over games in order to say that. But for ya to put your bigs under the bus again is dumb. Try to coach up the team.

What I liked about Mulder tonight is that he rebounded. REALLY rebounded. Nabbed 8 boards in only 14 minutes. Nobody else on this team has attacked the boards like that all year.

How can a Guard be rated 5-Star out of HS but cannot shoot a jumper or hit any foul-shots?
Just what was his rating based on?
