Caller: Your 2nd year was your best coaching job IMO...what do you think was your best coach job?

--Went 0-20 with first team against WVa but was maybe best team....gives some Confucious saying

--Practices are different from year to year

--We have NOT figured this team out yet

Caller: Shout out to Willis..team went on a run when Willis got in

--I wanted Mulder to go in and make shots....You have to defend and rebound if you miss shots

--We are trying to get runs....only get runs if you get stops...if you 'bounce' you play better defense

--I'm coaching 18-19 y/olds

--One or 2 areas we're focusing on

Caller: C. Matthews has come a long way...fav player with explosiveness...compare to MKG?

--Cal: yes...CM compares to MKG but MKG a better finisher...if you accept mediocrity thats what you get every time

--Cal: Merry Christmas to everybody...Joe Hall to do show next week....Cal has to keep Joe B statue clean from bird crap...LOL!

That's it for this week

just focus on defense, blocking shots, and get in shape

Works for me.

--Jamal's dad told Cal J can be hard-headed...needs to be disciplined....you're either working with us or you're working against us

I've been pointing this out all season - Jamal is great, and seems like a nice young man, but when you listen to him in interviews, he does seem sure of himself and his style to a fault - the other hyper talents, even Wall, Cuz, Davis, MKG, etc, said a lot of stuff like "we trust in Cal", whereas Jamal comes across like a wild mustang that needs to be tamed a bit.

--Cal: Not the easiest place to play....4 mil hoops experts in KY...they know more than me when I'm with them every day....
This is not hyperbole when you're talking about a couple posters on this forum.

There's at least a 50% chance that Skal becomse a monster by year's end and it will be absolutely amazing to watch if it unfolds come March.

I'd for once like to see the negative posters now come back and apologize just as hard as they criticized.. I can wish can't I?

"Skal stayed at Cal's house recently and Ellen fixed him breakfast"

Seems odd but glad to hear this....Thanks for posting...easy to read the way you do it

Blueathletics, thank you so much for your posts. I missed the show and really enjoyed reading through all your comments on what Cal had to say, great job.
Agree. Appreciate the info.

Sound like Cal may not be ready to throw Skal under the bus yet. That's gonna make some fanboi's unhappy.

Skal is too talented to ever get thrown under the bus. He is struggling right now but we have seen what he's capable of doing. Just a matter of time before he gets his mojo back. When he does this team will be unstoppable.

Thanks for the posts about the show Blue. It is much appreciated.

My opinion on Skal is this: the team doesn't necessarily need him to be dominant in order to be good. The Cats just need him to provide a low post scoring presence, block some shots, grab some rebounds, and not just get pushed around. I think these are reasonable goals right now. Once he reaches those goals, more may follow. But he needs to get it out of his head that he needs to carry the team or that all this weight is on his shoulders. He just needs to relax and play his game and he'll be fine. As much as anything else, he must play with more aggression. I'm not speaking of fouling, either. I'm speaking of being strong with the ball and not letting people push him around. He can do this.

I think when Cal gets Murray where he needs to be, he is going to be a scoring machine.

Sounds like he's working through some stubborn issues with him...which Cal is great at.

Is there a better coaches show anywhere? Most are dry and boring, but Cal comes out with some great stuff.

Having Joe B do the show is a great move as well...long live Joe B.

Yep. And I'm sure at the end of the season when Skal is playing out of his mind you'll get a ton of critics say "Cal didn't to do anything to improve Skal, he was already super talented," completely ignoring how raw and timid he was/is in November and December.

Yep. Remember Bobby Hurley being amazed at How KAT developed? Anybody with any sense knows how good Cal is. The rest are jealous haters or just plain unhappy people.

I actually hadn't seen it before but I just googled it. Add it to the list of articles to repost whenever someone says Cal doesn't develop players. Bobby Hurley Sr. is a high school coaching legend so I think he knows what he's talking about:
