Cal offered lifetime contract from UK

I am very happy about this. Cals face is now Kentucky basketball for decades to come even after retirement. He’ll be helping make decisions too. Cal is the perfect coach of his age to have in this kind of situation. I promise everyone the rest of the country doesn’t like seeing it.

This is the kind of stuff that keeps you relevant, and looking toward the the future. Indiana died because Bob Knight didn’t help them transition. You have to have these kinds of guys, they know what it takes to win at the highest levels.

I don’t believe the talks were extensive. Cal is just using it as leverage / to feel the fan base and of course it worked and I’m glad it did.

Thanks UCLA.
This aged well. No wonder this guy doesn’t post here anymore! …..wink,wink.

Great news, especially with that consultant to the program role. He's too important and too influential and too creative not to keep him involved even after he retires.

And since I know it's heading that way, for anyone critical of Cal, establish your criteria for a great coach, in concrete, measurable terms, and then give us your list of great coaches and let's apply it to them. If you can't or won't, then keep your emotional whining to yourself.

Wow reading this and it doesn't seem like the pumpers know as much as they thought. But the good news is they will let us know when Cal needs to be replaced.
I am sure this will be locked by the mod who is president of the super friends.

I remember avoiding this thread like the plague when it came out because I was a hater.

This is me. While I don’t like kneeling, I don’t think Cal really had a choice. If he doesn’t do it, the guys would’ve quit on him..maybe that would’ve been a good thing lol

But I think you, I, and a lot of fans have realized Cals system will no longer work. I always knew his offense was an eyesore and he wasn’t a great coach but figured we could always out talent the majority of teams and we’d have a chance in March. Well, that’s no longer the case
What does kneeling have to do w basketball? Gump fans kneel daily, well except behind him and puckered up

Cal should play UK for all he can get....

Wow, bringing this thread back points out an eerily coincidence:

Did we hire Cal on 4-1-09, and give him a lifetime contract on 4-1?

@Gromcat damn, how we went from this to now in 3-4 years is SAD.

This is interesting as this suggests he will have a major role in choosing the next coach. Unlike Coach K, Cal doesn't really have a set of guys/former players/assistant coaches he is grooming to be head coaches. I wonder (I know it's probably 5-7 years away) who Cal would suggest or push for to take over at UK?
Let’s hope not!!!!

So glad this guy doesn’t post anymore.

Lots of people posting in this thread early on arent/weren’t nearly as smart as they thought they were. I kept most of my comments to myself early on but this contract gave me tons of heartburn at the time.

Sad to see what’s happened since. And even sadder to see the folks that had issues with it be criticized as haters and idiots.

I was wondering where the haters were? Now crawl back in your hole

My thought was let him go. I wanted him to go. It is sad that as great as Cal started that we got to this point. By 2019, it was obvious he was past his sell by date.

I avoided these threads as a "hater".

@Wildcat-in-STL said after the Carolina game the refs were not going to let Cal advance. We needed a coach without that burden as well.

Many of you all got April fooled by that article.....
A lot of comments in this thread about playing UCLA, this fanbase and Uk got played. He was already the highest paid and spoke of this being the best job in sports but then went out and flirted with another school to work Mitch into this asinine contract. Also interesting that the biggest thread Karens on here did the most crowing.

The rest of the country hopes he stays forever because he sucks and KY basketball sucks too

Spamburger is one of the most vocal when it comes to his love of all things Cal. It’s fantastic.
I had a poster, it may have been Cal4three but I think it was another one, that laughed at my post about Georgia beating Kentucky at Georgia. They sure do like to laugh but when what was predicted happens they disappear.

And they accuse us of being bandwagon fans, when we’re here rain or shine. We lose and they are nowhere to be found. Looks to me like they’re the bandwagon fans.

Cal4three guy claimed to have “forgotten his password” until the day after the Tennessee game he magically remembered it. I guess he forgot it again 🤷‍♂️
Odd things do happen (probably not this case)
but yahoo has totally screwed my account up… I may have to start anew.
If so, Ill use as close as I can to same name and avatar.
