Ask me again when he is as old as the guy you’re comparing him to. How many did Cal have prior to UK?
I don’t think you understand. I want Cal fired today. But I definitely do not want Oats as a replacement. Might as well keep the garbage we have if you’re going to do that
Ok, might have misunderstood. Sorry about that, I feel the same way about Drew. I just don’t think he is an upgrade to the subpar coaching we have now.
Oats isn’t the guy. He wasn’t the guy prior to yesterday. He won’t be the guy when Calipari leaves or gets fired. There are many good options.

I'm not motivated enough to look up regular season wins, and really...who gives a chit? I just know Oats and never done anything, ever, in March. Ever.

I get ragging on Cal nowadays but some of this is over the top. Calipari is in the HOF. He is a great coach. Great coaches can lose their fastball.
LOL... No, he's in the HOF because of his recruiting ability. He has achieved less with more talent than any other college coach in history!
P.S. and he never had a coaching fastball.
I never understood what difference that made. Most schools are so-called “football schools”. You get the right type of coach, veteran players and good chemistry the bball team can play well and beat Almost anyone (regardless how the football team does).

He took Marcus Camby and beat quite possibly the greatest UK basketball team of all time in '96. Then took them to the ropes again in FF. His team had one pro, our team had 9.
Why is it with some folks on this board it is l impossible to have an objectively fair conversation about Calipari?
You cannot possibly be objective and think he isn't a "good" coach. Not to mention recruiting is one of the biggest things a coach does.
Calipari has plenty of strengths and weaknesses.
Late game situations...not the best...used to be pretty good tbh.
Motivating top tier talent to play as a unit in a short timespan...used to be the best...not as good as he once was tbh (time will tell this year).
Anyway, I won't be arguing with you further on this....lol.

The point is our coach has every built in advantage over their coach but is only .500 against him.
Nor has Cal in several years and Oats is younger. Also, Oats has something Cal doesn’t have, an ability to make in game adjustments.
What has your hall of shame coach done the last 5 years in March? He might have been a HOF coach at one point but he clearly lacks the ability to realize when his time is over. What’s over the top is your ability to look past poor mediocre coaching and blindly follow a coach who has made it perfectly clear winning for the name on the front isn’t his first priority.

Speaking of adjustments, how'd Oats adjust to the azz kicking saturday? Zero adjustments, they ran the exact same man to man defense the entire game.

That has literally nothing to do with the premise of one school having “built-in advantages”. Mears went head to head against Rupp. As far as advantages, I’m not sure what that would be at either school.
Good grief. I hate having to defend Cal in the midst of a horrible 4-5 year run. But you’re spouting nonsense. From 2010 -2018 or 19 Cal put together one of the best runs the sport has seen. He took mass and Memphis to a final 4. Stop saying dumb stuff.
As I said before, if you knew anything about coaching, sometimes you just run into a buzz saw and your team isn’t gonna win (under Cowl all UK fans should know this as he can’t adjust in game). You seem to want it both ways, you want to state UK has great facilities and tradition which goes a long way to getting players and winning but then want to imply coaching made the difference in the game against Oats. What should piss you off is it only proved Cowl doesn’t regularly coach his players up for every game to win, only the ones where he is trying to prove something to a fan base that doesn’t want him.

I am pretty sure more than a few know coaching but since someone points out oats made no adjustments you move the bar please admit when you get burned

We’re the top basketball school for one. History, tradition, 8 national titles, 17 FF’s, most E8’s, most passionate fan base, second biggest arena, national championships with 5 different coaches.
Same reasons Alabama and Tennessee have built in advantages over UK in football.
Would you say the game has changed in the last few years tho? Much like RP in the 90s had his run and gun and pressing, cal had DD he was famous for. He lost his edge with Nil and running the same thing for over a decade. He no longer is punishing teams with a distinct play set.

I’m still waiting for you to compare the last 5 or 10 years winnings between them which I know you won’t do because it proves what a failure Cal is with all these great class rankings.
Yes the game has changed. I believe call dropped the ball when he lost robic and ran with justice/barber for too long. He was left to his own devices and went unchecked. About 4-5 years too long. Then he attacked NIL incorrectly. At times I’d even say that he fails to connect with the kids the way he once did and that makes sense because he’s old. He has however adapted recently and he seems to have a much better staff. This season will be judged by Kentucky’s last game. We shall see I guess.
But none of that dismisses his great success prior to 2020. That was a fantastic run. One of the best the sport has seen.
I agree, although I’d push the date back from 2020 to a little further back. I never disputed he had a great run until he didn’t sort of speak.
