Cal needs to quit screaming....

obviously some don't take well to yelling. Skal takes well to it. The guys you really want to avoid it with are the Harrow's who just break down like babies after you yell at them. And also the ones who get angry and play bad out of spite.

Not implying i do but i know that look Skal is giving...very frustrating
th

Skal is being asked to play in a way that he's never had to. His biggest issue is with motivation: the motivation to work and fight and scrap. With him it has nothing to do with skill and everything to do with attitude. It's almost like a football player, and in that way screaming and pushing and demanding is probably the best way to go.

The good news: he has the foundation to get there. Skill-wise he's as good as any big Cal has had. The bad news is that he's about on the level WCS was on in terms of his instincts and his physical strength.

Cal's gotten on to Skal in other games and Skal listened and came back in and did well. Maybe Skal was just having one of those bad games. Like I've already said, Illinois State was purposefully taking Skal out of the game... I can understand how frustrating that would be. I didnt get the impression he was frustrated at Cal though.

I've thought the same thing, and even mentioned it last year. But then I remember, He still gets every damn recruit he wants. And for every recruit that can't handle it, there have been 20 who thrive under it, and still love Coach Cal years after they left. He's doing something right.

Until it sinks in i guess..maybe thats what Cal is thinking about Skal...kind of ironic

All you see is 40 or 80 minutes of an entire week. You have no idea what goes on outside of the game.... give it a rest. You are insufferable.

Skal bluntly stated he did not come here to be patted on the back. Cal knows what buttons to
push with the players. His results reflect that. The only player I have not seen Cal yell at this year is Ulis. Probably because he doesn't have his head up his rear end and does what is expected of him. And if you think players have a problem with Cal yelling, explain the multitude of former players at the Hall of Fame induction.

Not really sure why I was included..

But I agree with the last part. I worried for a bit that he wasn't giving players praise when they did things right, only scolding when they screwed up.. but all we see are 3 hours a week, and that's in game. I'm sure he calms down when the game is over and we have the win.

Yeah need to keep that fire lit under 18 and 19 year olds.

Less can be more. If you only yell at a guy once in a half, he's going to remember exactly what you said for a few days. If you yell at him 10 times in one half, almost everything you yelled at him for goes in one ear and out the other.
But it's not like he's yelling AT one guy all game long, 9 or 10 guys played last night, the yelling was directed at all of them. and a lot of what he is yelling is instructional, just because he's yelling doesn't mean he's yelling at someone.
I like how passionate Cal is, I think his style prevents UK from losing games against the Illinois State's of the world.

Sorry. Was talking to Ulisman. Cal isn't going to stop yelling during games. So to start threads saying he needs to is clutter...total waste of time.

Cal does a lot of things better than any other coach in the country. Just because some of us think the constant screaming is unnecessary doesn't mean we think Cal isn't a great coach. There was a story about Cal when he was coaching the Nets, getting all over one of his players. Michael Jordan said to the player he was guarding "Why do you guys put up with that?" You don't have to scream at someone constantly to make a point. I don't like watching Pitino do it at U of L. I don't like watching my coach do it at UK.

Serious question...how many on hete have coaching experience???..if your answer is none then you cant really argue your point on this topic
With that said how many coaches on here has a NCAA men's basketball coaching record of 642 wins and 178 losses? I'm trusting Coach Cal's coaching approach. You're coaching opinion shouldn't be relevant at this level and can't argue your point either.

Maybe Cal can start giving out stickers for good plays and taking one away for mistakes.

Apparently not working..also Willis needs to play in 2nd half cuz he can at least hit free throws and these guys foul on every trip

The Negative Pot calling the Kettle black.

You must be perfect in everything you do in life, because you sure like to point out every little thing you can find about Kentucky's Team,Coach, and Players.

I'm really starting to think you are one of those Whoring Card Fans with a UK Username like we find so frequently

all coaches do is yell. and you were a coach?

Don't particularly like it for the whole game but you can't argue with Cal's results. But after the game his comments were something like
5 star athletes don't need coaching, they know what they are doing wrong and will correct it themselves. ???

Do you have a link for that. Sounds interesting.

Funniest thing every game is hearing Cal, after EVERY defensive rebound, yell : GO! GO!

I mean…the guards KNOW to push the ball. He's purely wasting his energy and health doing it. Brings the lulz every time though lol.

Not everyone responds to his screaming is what im saying...Skal obviously doesnt

Like you know what Skal responds to.

He made a decision to play for Cal and could have played anywhere. He defends to toughen up anyway.

Good greif.

Not only this board, but the football board as well. At least it's good to know he is an equal opportunity suck arse poster.

It really is amazing, aint it? You have a guy that posts on a message board that really d oes think he could coach better than a HOF coach like Cal. It is insane to think like that, but deep down, these type of people are being for real and think they could easily do what Cal does. I don't even try to reason with people like that. It's a waste of time.

Kentucky wildcat....not what i said at all...where in anything i have ever posted did i imply i could coach better than Cal????? Dont make shit up to appease your audience

He does that to reinforce them that he wants to play fast. Sure they know that but kids are lax these days.

Yes for sure. Sometimes you can see them get a step faster when he yells it. I think their speed isn't the same Cal speed this early in the season.

Not everyone responds to his screaming is what im saying...Skal obviously doesnt
really? and you are a physiologist, physiatrist, family counselor, life coach, friends with Skal, some kinda of coach above Jr high level...?

I must say, this thread is semi-entertaining. The things some UK fans come up with

Why is it such a big deal if fans don't want to see Cal screaming all game long? It's not a good look. Like so many of us have said, less is more. This isn't a "we know how to coach" thing. Hell, most if not all of the coaching comes in practice anyways. It's just an observation that a 55-year old man shouldn't need to scream at 18-year olds for two hours straight in front of 23,000 people.

It would be different if Cal wasn't in the HOF or if Cal hadn't coached 4 young teams to the final four. We criticize coaches for sitting on their butts and not coaching their players. What Calipari does is working. It's a proven method and we should be the last group of people that should be complaining about what he is doing. He's yelling because these young men, after having been told repeatedly, are not doing the things Cal has instructed them to do.
Not a single one of us could coach this team to even 1 victory against any team that plays the game. You know it, I know it and Ulismynan wishes he knew something about coaching. But it's the truth, none of us on here could carry Coach Cal's shoes but we have people on here bitching about what he has to do to teach these guys how to play the game at this level??? No way. We need to start appreciating what this man is doing for our program, these players, the city of Lexington, the State of Kentucky and for College Basketball.
I still can't believe we have fans that are on our players about having a chip on their shoulder and a coach that yells.
Hey Rick Barnes doesn't yell, how's that working out for him?
Let Cal do his job, you just sit there, drink your Budweiser and enjoy the work that he's putting in.
Mic drop!
