What are some opinions on how Swannigan de committing would that affect cal and izzo friendship?

They were friendly last few times i have seen them together but i know i would have a difficult time being friends with another coach if my recruit decommitted and suddenly looked at a friends program...would have to raise some doubts?

I coach hs and when i hear one of my players saying another coach has been dropping hints about them moving....i dont like that.

I think Izzo is smart enough to see that Cal had nothing to do with Swanigan decommiting from Michigan State.

The kid re-opened his recruitment with no tampering from UK or Calipari and was fair game at that point. UK was allegedly being considered, but from the second that he decommited it was believed that Purdue would be his ultimate destination. Probably a lot of hometown pressure going on. IMO he used UK to get a little extra publicity, but knew where he was heading once he re-opened his recruitment.

First, i am not saying cal meddled at all or did anything wrong at all.

I am just asking how these guys remain friends sometime when in the course of recruiting there has to be some ruffled feathers.

I know the kid went to purdue but word was he was considering uk after decommitting.

It's a millionaire coaches club in big time college, even more so in football. No hard feelings, win some lose some, we all keep making money. Cal and Izzo won't go to War over one lost recruit, and they both know his deal.

Not to be disrespectful but this ranks high on the waste of time posts.

Joe Crawford was a high profile recruit from the state of Michigan and was recruited heavily by Michigan State (among many other schools) before deciding to attend UK. During his first semester Crawford got frustrated and considered leaving. He reached out to Tom Izzo about transferring to Michigan State. Izzo told him to stick it out at UK.

Given the above anecdote, I highly doubt Tom Izzo has his feathers easily ruffled, especially over a nothing issue.

This doesn't have anything to do with that bs story about Swanigsn wanting a personal chef does it?
Either way none of this makes sense. Cal didn't attempt to steal a recruit, the kid decommitted. Cal at least had to take a swing and try to land him. If Tom Izzo got his feathers ruffled over that then he's in the wrong business because he has lost thousands of recruits in his career. Heck, he wouldn't like anyone if that were the case.

Nothing to do with chef...kind of a general question about the effect recruiting COULD have on various coaches personal friendship....just used cal and izzo with swanigan as an example.....

In no way saying cal did anything wrong....wow, just forget the frigging question

Well, you did ask for opinions. Was it a question only meant for people who agree with whatever position you have. With that said, why all the smart ass remarks to the guy. If you thought it was a stupid question why didn't you just continue on about your day. No reason to be donkeys about it. With the influx of outsiders on here because of the bans being lifted why not save the unnecessary douche-baggery for people that actually deserve it.

As for the question I don't think Izzo would assume Calipari would, for a lack of a better word, tamper with a player who was committed. I would also guess that Izzo would feel like once the kid de-committed he would be fair game. If someone undercuts you then fine, be mad. Unless of course it is the player doing the initiating. It's their right to go to whichever school they want even if they thought at one time they wanted to go to your school.

While this thread is a bit far fetched and I'm not real sure why this type of question was asked some of you guys are really being pretty rough on the OP. I see where Cal had nothing to do with upsetting Izzo in this case but being pretty tough on a guy who asked a bad question while thinking it was pretty innocent.

There is absolutely no indication Cal contacted Swanigan until after he left MSU and as far as we know even then Swanigan's family contacted Kentucky to gauge interest. Then he signs with Purdue, the favorite all along. So how does all that add up to Cal meddling?

I agree. Even if UK had interest after he decommitted, let's face it, he was going to go somewhere. As long as Cal had nothing to do with his decision to not honor his commitment to MSU, this is a non-issue. If Skal had just made a commitment and not signed, then changed his mind, Izzo, and everyone else, would have been all over him.

I think their relationship changed when he asked for Colby instead of Swiss on his roast beef sandwich. Oh yeah, and then there's that time he beat Belmont a few years back.....

I think some of RR members were bullied as children. They have way too much aggression and hostility when it isn't called for.

Feel sorry for them.

IU and B1G TEN fan here (As i have noted before)...

If you think Cal was involved in Swanigan deciding to de-commit... you are not a real UK fan. Cal does not (and does not need to operate that way).

Even IU fans (smart ones) know that.

As for Swanigan (and BTW, I am a Purdue fan after IU, since they are B10 and Indiana)... I hope Purdue goes to East Lansing this season. Caleb will get his bottom handed back to him in that place... and will deserve it.
