True, but it was a MUCH more talented team than his current one.The team that lost to Oakland didn't play a lick of defense the whole season

To be fair... he did it before.Cal beating Self twice in one season….
Ahhh….the good ole days when we would hold them to what was it, like 13 points in the first half. Platooned them into submission. To be fair... he did it before.
You just couldn't help yourself could you?God that panicked look looks familiar
He also has as many wins in the tournament this year as he's had in the previous 5 years combined, so there's that too.You just couldn't help yourself could you?
Now he Cal currently has more tournament wins this year than Pope.
Why is everyone giving me grief for pointing out the obvious? Self switched to zone and Cal was like a turtle on its back. His face was screaming "oh no not again". Davis hit that three and saved Cal's butt. You just couldn't help yourself could you?
Now he Cal currently has more tournament wins this year than Pope.
Say what you want but he's got Fland back and he's got them peaking at the right time. The team that lost to Oakland didn't play a lick of defense the whole season

Instead of being a non factor Aidoo actually tskong over games.
Greetings, fellow Wildcat enthusiast.Say what you want but he's got Fland back and he's got them peaking at the right time.
Instead of being a non factor Aidoo actually taking over games/scoring. St. John may not make it past Omaha. Cal could be cruising to a Sweet 16.
He's got something to prove again. He also has as many wins in the tournament this year as he's had in the previous 5 years combined, so there's that too.
Lol. Give credit where it's due. I hope to do the same for Pope to get his first Tournament win ever tomorrowLol peaking my ass. Theu are a round of 32 team. Arkansas didn't pay for that. Muss got them to back to back elite 8s while cal was losing first round or missing tourney.
Lol. Give credit where it's due. I hope to do the same for Pope to get his first Tournament win ever tomorrow
Has Pope won a 1st rd game and deserving of Kudos? Fair question...He won a first round game. Kudos I guess?
For a hall of fame coach I don't see it as some great accomplishment.
Just wait until he upsets the high n almighty Slick Rick on Saturday.
Has Pope won a 1st rd game and deserving of Kudos? Fair question...
No thanks, I don't want to take a peak.Lol peaking my ass.
Hunter saved his bacon. He was doing it. I noted that look in the game thread too.shhhhh too soon
The Davis three was huge but Self actually saved Cal’s butt by putting Dickinson back in the game. KU would’ve won going away if they’d kept him on the bench. Dickinson literally looked like he intentionally threw the game last night - it was that bad.Why is everyone giving me grief for pointing out the obvious? Self switched to zone and Cal was like a turtle on its back. His face was screaming "oh no not again". Davis hit that three and saved Cal's butt.
Good luck with that after that 30 point beat down they just gave! I hope Pitino rubs Cal’s nose in it!!!!Ark with the dagger.
Next up, St Johns
Dickinson and his parade of turnovers saved Cal's bacon. Arky was dying until Kansas's gawd awful turnover fest brought them back to life. Why is everyone giving me grief for pointing out the obvious? Self switched to zone and Cal was like a turtle on its back. His face was screaming "oh no not again". Davis hit that three and saved Cal's butt.
Exactly winning just one NCAA tournament game in the last 5 years when he was our coach! I hope Pitino wipes the floor with that @sshole!!!!LOL. Cal with a better version of his current team: loses to Oakland. Maddening.
All it will take is a little 2/3 zone at times to stimie Arkansas. This is the very week Kan team and Ark with all there talent barely beats them, I would say Pitino will beat Ark.
Cal was such a champ the last few years in the tourney..... Look dude... Cal is a terrible floor coach... everyone who works in D1 basketball knows it.You just couldn't help yourself could you?
Now he Cal currently has more tournament wins this year than Pope.
He deserves to be our coach.Has Pope won a 1st rd game and deserving of Kudos? Fair question...
He did a ton of damage to our program. He basically had the job the last 7 years or so with the only interest of getting guys to the NBA. He did nothing to try and win games or the championships. He was taking a salary (not that I paid it) and not doing the job he was being paid to do. Why do you think Barnhart was so quick with the trigger as soon as there was a slight opening to get him out?Legit question. Why do some of you hate Cal so much? I really don’t like how the last few years ended, but the guy gave me an awesome decade or so of basketball and then left (albeit a few years too late) on his own, which I still think was a bit of a “sorry for screwing up so much” move on his part. Him leaving saved UK tens of millions of dollars and allowed us to snag Pope as our next coach.
The last several years sucked, but that doesn’t make me despise the guy like some of you all do.
Clearly you are a punk.Has Pope won a 1st rd game and deserving of Kudos? Fair question...
Maybe for once it was about winning and not the NBA?Does anybody really believe Fland was hurt the last part of the season? All of a sudden, there he is on the floor with no brace and no visible sign of an injury in their first NCAA tourney game. Cal is so shady.
I’ll never agree with the argument that Cal wasn’t trying to win. Cal’s issue is that he was too stubborn to change his philosophy (which he used to win a ton of games and a natty title at UK) when it came to team building/style of play. He succeeded when he could get the elite of the elite freshmen to come to UK and simply overwhelm other teams with our talent. Once that talent started falling off, he couldn’t overwhelm teams. Then he never prioritized the 3-ball like other teams did. His stubbornness cost us games. I don’t think it was simply him not caring at all, but that’s fine if you disagree with that.He did a ton of damage to our program. He basically had the job the last 7 years or so with the only interest of getting guys to the NBA. He did nothing to try and win games or the championships. He was taking a salary (not that I paid it) and not doing the job he was being paid to do. For me, it wasn't necessarily the wins or losses. He could have won more and I would feel the same. It was about him being the coach of UK, but having no interest in actually putting effort into the #1 priority of that job.
If he'd have left after 2015, he would have been probably the #2/3 coach in UK's history. As it is, I personally rank him below Rupp, Pitino, Hall, and Tubby. I'm not sure between him and Billy. Gillispie wasn't here long enough to do real damage and I at least believed he was trying to win games.
