Cal Held Individual Meetings Today; Made Bigs Watch Film

Do you think it was like " See that. That's where you should have jumped"[winking]

Personally, I think Cal had them psyched out over Ben Simmons. They basically just all watched him play and didn't even guard their own man.

I agree with this...I think the whole game plan was to stop Simmons and we watched...

Cal - we don't need players watching film

Fan - that's stupid.

Pumper - you think you know more than a HOF coach?

Cal - it was bad. We watched film.

Pumper - crickets.

Conflated I know. Did it anyway. :D

yes, because every team has the exact same dynamic...

(even though I do agree last year's team should have watched tape...)

Well I'll take it as a positive, better than reading about a players only meeting at this point

I have all the faith in the world in Cal and am certain he knows what he's doing here......We may give Kansas a game after all [cheers]

He's good. They need a wake up call. Be consistent . On top of reinforcing Tyler calling them out this is much needed and should be motivational.

Funny that is what WKU did against Magic Johnson and MSU in the 1978 NCAA. They seemed mesmerized by his ball handling and passing skills. UK didn't do that when we got our shot at him. We just didn't play with any cohesiveness on the road again. We can't seem to keep our minds on our business when anyone gets tough with us. I wish we had someone who really took pride in getting ever rebound, but it appears we don't. Free throw shooting is a joke!

Make them run until their legs cramp or until they make a stop inside the painted area.
Or until Briscoe makes 5 free throws in a row???

Yeah?

No?

Guys???

I, I, I was ju just joking. We can laugh about it now…. Right?

For some reason being able to pick in high school is non existent. Since Cal has been here, we never have had that guy who sets a pick and about destroys the unsuspecting defender.

In the last 2 days I have watched part of the Ark/Vandy game, part of the Miss. St/aTm game and in those games both teams seem to play harder than we do. They pressure the ball more, get on the floor after loose balls more and just hustle more. They don't have the talent we do and are no more athletic but the effort seems greater

Same in the KU/OU game, not talking about the quality of the play, just how they seemed to contest everything. Anyone else notice this or am I wrong?

I wonder if he had them watch a tutorial on the basics of free throw shooting?

Correction, they play harder than UK when UK is on the road. But, when UK is at home they play very hard. If they played the UL game with the same effort they played with on Tuesday night we would have lost by 30. The difference in effort is night and day.

It only works if you keep their eyes open with toothpicks like in A Clockwork Orange.

Speaking of FT's ... Poythress basically got 10 months off to rehab his knee. During that time, he had the opportunity to stand at the FT line and shoot all day, every day. He's currently shooting a jaw dropping 61%. Statistically, this is the worst season he's had from the stripe. Only person on this team that I'm convinced is serious about perfecting their craft, is Tyler Ulis.

I can't wait to watch the game on Saturday to see how they respond.

Agreed. Someone had mentioned in an earlier thread before the LSU game "How we will learn a lot about this team". I think this Saturday will tell us all we need to know....good or bad.

I'm almost ready to make a bet that it's coming. If we read about him having the team play dodgeball or do some "distraction" activity, then that's when it's about time to mail it in. Hopefully they turn it around.

cal - "I took the guys fishing today. We seem to be on the same page"

Wow. Gloat much? I guess we can expect film has solved all the problems now.

Me too. It will tell you about his team and the rest of the year. If Skal comes out and looks like a hunted giraffe then chalk him for the year.

I'm pretty sure he never said they never use it period. People made a much bigger deal about it than it actually warranted, especially since it's how he's always done things here.
