Wilson is a dodge minivan, it’s fine and it serves a clear purpose, but if I can get a Cadillac I’m a get a Cadillac, and there is some Cadillacs available elsewhere

This thread (and the interest in Wilson's recruitment in general) only exists as a vanity project for Big Blue Nation. From a practical level, Wilson's production is not going to be transcendent next year. But it still feels good landing top five guys, even if all they're going to do is give you about 11 to 12 points per game.
Wilson would have scratched the five star itch that some of us have regarding Pope and his recruiting reputation. But that's about as far as the interest side of this goes. From a productive standpoint, he's easily replaceable.
I'd like to have him on the team. Nobody knows how a player will turn out.
Wilson is a PR win more than some transcendent type of talent. He is a good player who will impact winning but he isn’t going to be dominant in college. Like you said it’s more us wanting the 5 star player instead of the actual fit.
I mean 11-12 ppg is nothing to sneeze at. But I know what you're driving at.
I think the Wilson commitment will get Hubert another year as coach.

The best college teams will have 1-2 top HS players combined with very good older players.
We don’t have that top tier hs player this year. (I think we have an excellent class, but not a consistent game changing player.) As we know from years past, there are different levels of 5* players, and I don’t think we have the best.
I’m confident Pope will put together an excellent roster. But, I’ll never shrug at missing out on the highest ranked recruits. Pope wants him for a reason!

Oh man, I really don’t care for that actress. And you’re correct, she was average.
I loved Abby. Kind of a "girl next door" thing to me. Addiction issues, and crazy mother aside.
When I think of the type of 4 we need, I think of Patrick Patterson along side a dominant Cousins; or Terrance Jones along side a dominant Anthony Davis. I don't get that feel with Wilson. I have no doubt he'll be good, but I strongly doubt he'll be developed physically enough to be the man we need to be truly great next year.
You don't need Top 10 recruits to win

Guys it's going to be okay... you have to understand with the portal in most cases your getting a better polished transfer than a 5 star recruit.

There are literally 100s of good basketball players. UK basketball ain’t gonna die because Wilson goes to North Carolina. I’d rather have a proven junior from somewhere.
I have no doubt Pope will build a good roster. However, when Pope puts a few players high in the draft it will open up another level of recruiting HS players and portal players.
I don’t think that will happen with our current players. Nor do I see any of next year’s current signees going high in the next draft.
Again, I have no concern about Pope’s ability to put together an en excellent roster. But, let’s not act like Pope didn’t want Wilson. Pope would/will utilize Wilson’s strengths to help create a very good roster.

He will have to outplay his ranking. (Which happens all the time.) That would make me happy, but I think he’s going to need another year to work on his body.
I suspect he’ll have some excellent games next year, but struggle with physical play.
I’m guessing he comes back for a 2nd year with a more mature body and plays consistently well for the Cats before going on to the league. (Just a guess, but who knows with freshmen.)
Recruiting is tough! To be honest I couldn’t do it! I hope the staff learned a lesson from this misstep.

I don't really see a need to. I hope we don't try to build a roster of elite freshman EVER again. They'll never win a championship. Get a couple of 2-3 year players & use portal & overseas.
1000%. Proven to not work. Literally Pope came in last minute, put together a top ten roster with all transfers. He can coach. We are UK. Bring in a couple/three freshmen and hit the portal hard. That's the new way of winning. Give me proven PG like Butler, shooters like Brea, and let's get some tough physical rim protectors and we are good every year.
I’ve said it since hiring pope that as long as Duke, Kansas, and UNC are gonna pull 5 stars, Kentucky fans will expect the same.
Yes. We beat them.. after Malach went out with cramps and opened up the rim for our bigs to score. Also, those freshman... they looked like freshman in game 2 of the year. They aren't the same team now. I freaking hate Duke...I want them to lose every game. But I see all sides to all teams that matter. Duke is a locomotive running through a lot of teams. I hope the lose. But my money says they win it all.
Duke will be a favorite against every team in the tournament. But of course some teams can beat them. Just like the Towns 38-0 team. Wisconsin would never beat uk in a series of games that year. But that one night, they got us.
Duke is very very good but you are overstating their dominance a little bit. Many people think Auburn (with healthy Broome) is better than them and there are other teams in that conversation. You’re talking like they are so far and away the best in the country and they barely beat Auburn at home and lost to us. You’re not wrong about them being good though. Just slow down a tad as if this is 2018 level Duke

They haven’t played a ranked team since Dec 4th. And have played 4 on the season, losing half of them.
They will be a top seed and a tough out but I’m not worried about them.
Way to reliant on Flagg and way to inconsistent.

They are crushing bad teams right now- how is this different than what we see out of Gonzaga every year in the WCC? The ACC is basically on the same level this year. Bunch of BAD teams. Duke would have at least 2 conference losses in the SEC right now if they had played our schedule or Bama's schedule, etc.
No player is make or break but I eas hoping to land Wilson, a top 10 guy. Right now we have 2 true Freshman, both from Kentucky. For next year it worked out well that 2 more Freshman landed are from Kentucky and good. Then we got a 3rd Freshman in Acadian which looks like a decent player. I just wanted to see Pope land a top guy not from here. I know we can get good transfers but just want to feel like we can compete with the top teams with recruiting.
Like I said not a make or break thing, but would feel good to get a top guy. I know we don't want to depend on just Freshman but only 3 for year 2 seems a bit lite. Still positive, still loving this season, just not sure why guys wouldn't be knocking the door down to play in this offense for our storied program and for a good size bag of cash.

Besides Duke who has a game changing freshman? Nobody knows who the best freshmen will be next season.
