Butler Out Tonigjt

Carr has been playing but is a shell of himself. We need Carr back.
It’s been hard to get a read on that situation too. Word before the Arkansas game was that he felt better than he had in some time and had been back in practice all week, but he still looked like he was having a lot of trouble moving effectively when he actually checked into the game. The player he was early in the season would really help us right now, but I’m honestly not sure if he can get back to that level or not. Back problems can be tricky.

Heard he only practiced Friday before the game? Could be wrong.

It's odd, because they are hinting that he might need surgery to fix the problem, but they are talking about seeing if he can play through it without making the issue worse. If that's the case, why is it taking so long to make the decision?
As far as I know, he hasn't had surgery yet. So what are they waiting on?
He got hurt in the aTm game, that was weeks ago. Maybe if they just went ahead and had the surgery, he would have been back by the NCAAT, depending on the healing and rehab time, but now, it feels like it's too late to do the surgery and get him back.
I don't know, maybe they're trying to see if he can heal enough to not be in serious pain while playing.
Just spitballing.

Yeah it seems like they are really unclear on a plan with Butler here.

Either get the surgery ASAP so you can get back sooner............or play through it. But the decision needs to be made at some point.

What did Pope say that hinted at him might needing season ending surgery?

My VERY dumb interpretation of the situation:

Surgery would end his college career. In that case there’s no rush to do the surgery. Some combination of rest/physical therapy is being attempted to get him to a playable level for the rest of the year. My guess is the uncertainty on that rest option being a) effective b) timeliness of the effectiveness, is why it’s been so secretive.

I doubt Pope ever says it but I’m assuming there’s a plan in place with target dates for practicing and playing currently. I would think he needs to be back by Auburn on 3/1 to be trustable and back in rhythm for the NCAAT.

Pilgrims update yesterday is promising for butler

Yeah I agree. I bet it's a tricky situation here where ideally they hope that rest heals things a bit and he can play without having to go through surgery. But looks like they aren't completely all that sure the rest will help.

Just kinda stinks.

Butler is key IMO. This team was top 10 in all of college bball in not turning the ball over and last three games have been brutal in that regard and it's really hurt us offensively.

Not to mention the defense that Butler brings.

That's where I am at. Maybe they didn't realize the severity of it at first, but any time there is an injury, it seems like they always get it checked out and make a determination. I don't remember if they said they did an MRI, it almost feels like they didn't.

I don't recall the exact verbaige, but he talked about it on one if his call in shows, but the way he said it, was in a "we are trying to navigate that space" kind of way.

Man we are so banged up. Otega fell twelve feet onto his head two games ago and that’s our one starting guard playing his natural position who is “healthy.”

Now that I think about it, one way to look at what happened Saturday night was Cal saw how Kentucky was treated at home by the stripes for fifteen straight years and so he decided to take advantage of it and it paid off. On one hand you don’t want to be weanie and blame the refs for the outcome and we certainly did have our own share of blunders, questionable game plan, timidity, and ice cold shooting. Otoh, regarding the uncalled grabbing and shoving that Arkansas was getting away with for two hours straight, I know what I saw.

I don't even care at this point he's done and probably got paid well for the quarter of season played. Most disappointing guard since Ashton. Remember when guys would have to be dragged off the court if they were hurt.

Very real chance I don't really watch tonight.

Which is saying something- I haven't missed a game in YEARS, but Saturday just really took me out of it right now- hard to feel any lower and another loss might just send me over the edge. Might be better off just not watching and checking the score in the morning.

But knowing how little self-control I have, I am sure I will be parked in front of my TV, screaming all the same.

I wonder why? We got a clear cut on Kerr and Carr. I hope Butler isn't pulling something here like other past players. I don't think he would though.
Pulling something for what? I think he’s really hurt, I’m hoping that they can shoot him up and his shoulder will allow him to play.

What I have seen about Carr is regarding his back. What I have seen regarding Butler, it doesn't explicitly say what his injury is. That's all I was trying to say. Not sure why though

Back problems tend to be terribly chronic. It's hard to recover from "throwing your back out" in the course of a two-game-a-week season. If he gets to 75% of early season health, and maintains that, it might be the best case scenario. :(
