Butler can’t move, time for Chandler

basically
It is amazing how some of you think you can look at a photograph and determine all there is to know about the image in the picture. That is exactly what you are doing with Butler based on last night's performance. If you want to look at individual performances last night, there were really no standouts other than the negative one by Williams with his soft play under the basket. Each one of them did some things well while others not so well. We would have blown out Troy early in the game if each of the players had a clue about situational play. After getting double digit leads, we continued running up and down the court throwing up bad shots like we were down by double digits. I don't think anyone is cable of determining Bulter's impact on this tournament by the snapshot of a single game. I will go with Bulter any day of the week before any other player on the team.

If you bench Butler when he is willing and capable of playing, you are not playing with house money; you are not playing at all.

It definitely did. Thats why he missed. He was focused on avoiding contact.
We must have been looking at two different games. The game I saw was a player who drove into at least 2-3 players knowing that he could have been knocked off his feet to the floor and he didn't shy away from it. The good thing is that he said postgame that he felt no pain which is likely to give him the confidence to play more like he normally plays.

I believe the guy to guard Jakucionis would be a healthy Butler. I think he would present major problems for the way Jakucionis wants to play. Maybe in his current condition Butler can still cause problems for Jakucionis.
Butler's shoulder is injured, not his feet or legs which are what's required for the lateral movement to guard your man.

No!!!!!!! Butler is certainly limited. But, we’re a much better team with him on the floor. The thought of not having Butler available to guard Ilini’s AA PG sends shivers down my spine. Chandler is at his best right now when he’s at 10–12 mins a game.
If we couldn't guard Arkansas' PG without Butler, we certainly won't be able to guard Ilini's PG without him.

Watching the replay and Butler definitely favors that left arm. It just hangs loose most of the time. On one play, he knocked the ball loose and the Troy player dove for it. Lamont just reached with his right hand. He still is our best option but he is definitely hurting.

Feels like a parody account.

Did you see Butler take that charge last night? Still laying on the line for this team and fanbase.
That one play showed that Butler is willing to do whatever it takes for as long as he is on the court. It would be really nice if Williams decides to play that way. His missed shots under the basket were ridiculous.

Someone said Amari is also nursing an injury. Not sure.

I honestly think he is just uncoordinated with the ball in his hands. He only averaged 12 ppg at Drexel last year.

You can't even spell his name right.

Nobody's questioning his heart or his defense. But if he's playing a lot of minutes, we only have 4 guys on the court who can score.

Even at 70%, Butler is our best on ball defender. Thats why we need him on the court. I’m ok with keeping his minutes down (20-25), but we do need him.

Even before last night I didn’t want him shooting 3’s because even though the left hand is just the guide hand, I don’t think he has enough mobility in thst shoulder to make a shot.
I thought his threes were very flat yesterday ... practically no arc on them.

Yes, I fully understand that Butler can still move his feet. But his shoulder is still involved in defense in a variety of ways. In most athletic things the body learns to work synergistically. That injured shoulder will affect Butler's defense.

Would you put Butler on Jakucionis at 6'6'' ... versus having him on Boswell at 6'2" ???

Interesting, so many of you are fixated on defending Butler instead of noticing the other side of the equation.

Chandler came in and scored 9 points in about 4 minutes.

He needs to get some more run.

We can't beat Illinois unless we can score. Cutting our production by 20% won't do it.

We need Butler on the floor … bottom line, but match-ups with Illinois might allow more sporadic use … we’ll know early on in the game. Illinois is a tall team. Only Boswell is less than 6’6” … so Oweh might guard him, with Butler out, but guarding Jakucionis will be key !!
You want butler out? I didn’t see any play he tried to make that has anything to do with his shoulder: he played too fast at times and threw some ill advised passes. That his mental game. We need his defense more than anything.

Specious analysis. Typical.

You need to look beneath the surface.

Butler threw bad passes because he lacks confidence in finishing at the rim. His shoulder is clearly bothering him. He lost control of the ball a few times last night as well, just dribbling.

That’s some serious bs of excuses. Williams missed gimmes so it has to be injury. Again I didn’t see butler do anything his shoulder wouldn’t allow. He got to the rack as you pointed out: he missed but he got there. He’s capable. He needs to play with in himself injury or not. He’s not a superstar to begin with he’s a great defender and decent offensive player solid ball handler. I saw a mess of a team last night with poor rotations I didn’t see butler as a problem when he stopped trying to make too much happen. He’s never been a good 3 pt shooter. Idk he looked very capable to me.

I know you want to grow your vocab while in college. That was a misuse of the word specious.

Chandler is a freshman who hadn’t played basketball in literal years not long ago. He is not ready to floor general against a P5 team in the NCAA Tournament.

It sucks that Butler’s injury has completely taken away his shot but sh!t happens, you gotta roll with it.

Extra exclamation points don't help your argument, FYI. I don't really care what scares you. Fact is, Butler is less than half effective right now. He can't shoot, he can't control the ball. Not saying he shouldn't play. But he's not going to help us much and Illinois will exploit that weakness.
Exclamation points emphasize how much I disagree with your statement. I guarantee you could ask any college coach in the SEC (because they have played against us) which UK lineup (minute distribution, etc …) gives UK the best chance for winning and 100% of them will have Butler getting as many minutes as he can possibly handle.

I agree that he’s currently limited. We’re a different team with him on the floor if for no other reason than he makes the opposing guard uncomfortable. Illini PG may have a career game regardless of who’s guarding him. But, their pick and roll offense with Z’s brother will require ball pressure that ONLY Butler can provide. Others can pressure the ball, but they then open up drives to the basket that causes rotational problems. Any coach would tell you UK struggles defensively w/o Butler.

I like what Chandler brings to the game. I personally think he deserves Perry’s minutes right now. But, Chandler is currently at his best at 10-12 minutes a game. Playing with Butler frees him up to his natural position, plus gives Oweh some rest.

Im guessing we’ll see more of Chandler, Oweh and Brea when Butler sits. Butler, Chandler, and Brea when Oweh sits. And, Chandler, Butler and Oweh when Brea sits. Noah will su for Brea if we’re gettin hurt on the boards.

Any 2 freshmen on the court at same time scares me and I’m always hoping for a dead ball to get to TV timeout break. Pope is buying time during those stretches.

Just because you didn't see it doesn't mean it didn't happen. You didn't notice in the last few games including last night that Butler lost control of the ball several times when he switched to his left hand. He can't move the shoulder.

Thus, specious. You assume what you see on the surface.

You're still using proof by assertion and you clearly didn't watch the game very closely.

Oweh may take him part of the game and his length will bother that step back jumper. Oweh, however tends to gamble and get very handsy on defense that can lead to foul trouble. We cannot have him in foul trouble.

I agree with you that they’ll rotate Butler and Oweh on him.

His shoulder is clearly not mobile. He loses control of the ball a lot and he can’t play aggressively.

Pope said his shoulder is hanging by a string and taped together.

We might have fooled Troy for a few minutes last night but Illinois isn’t stupid. No chance we get past somebody like Tennessee with Butler playing significantly.

Pope needs to make a decision and stop monkeying with the lineup. Chandler needs to start.
When did pope say this about his shoulder? Before the tournament he said he’s 90% very healthy. What is this garbage? Some old quote

LOL I stopped reading right there. What are you, twelve?
I thought this was a message board. Do you pout when people disagree with you? Are you a middle school girl?

I never made anything personal about your OP than to disagree with it. You sound very sensitive! (That exclamation point is there for a reason ;- )

Ah! You didn't watch the game. Just as I suspected.

It was right after the game in the on-court interview.

Go back and watch.

Try and keep up with the rest of the class, Skippy.

Apparently I'm supposed to use a thousand exclamation points. That's a true sign of maturity.

This ???

Butler is a veteran presence on offense, averaging 11.5 points and 4.3 assists per game. Butler’s shoulder brace seems to hurt his shooting motionoccasionally but Kentucky’s offense runs far smoother with him on the court.

Smoother with him on the court. This is a troll thread .

And the article says HE WAS JOKING.

You think freaking Chandler IS the reason? Goodness. He had two “good” games. LSU and Troy. There’s a reason for that. Talent level of the opponent. Get beat with your fastball. And a hurt Butler is still the fastball.

What I heard was hyperbole but clearly his shoulder is not well.

Thanks for proving my point.

Keep moving those goalposts, skippy.

Dude I live out of the country and the game cuts away as soon as it ends. I posted a link. It clearly says he was KIDDING. You’re a troll. It’s one thing to go head to head for what you believe it’s another to stir the pot and call people names. I can live with being skippy. Can you live with being a miserable person who gets his kicks from insults ??? Grandmas basement getting too tight?

Blah blah blah...bunch of platitudes. "Facilitate" you mean like throwing the ball away or losing it out of bounds? "Court general" means nothing when you look at his play last night. He was 0-5 with 2 turnovers. He kept losing control of the ball. I guess you didn't WATCH the game. Did you get Grok to write that response? LOL
Butler is a shadow of his former self. But the fact that he was PLUS 24, the highest on the team, underscores how important his presence is.

Butler was 0-5 with 2 turnovers against the "talent level of the opponent."

How will he do against Illinois? Hopefully better. But according to your logic?

Yes he was kidding. But there's always a kernel of truth inside the joke. He really was emphasizing that Butler's shoulder is not good. And you can see it for yourself if you just open your eyes, Sport.

Maybe so. But Chandler provided a burst that we will need against Illinois. If Pope runs the same lineup mess he ran yesterday, we will lose.
