The same Bulls team that destroyed the Bucks by 54 also lost twice in six games to that same Bucks team. It seems impossible that one team that is clearly that much better than the other could ever lose a game to that team, let alone twice in six games, but it happened.
It just reinforces the fact that, in any particular basketball game, the best team often doesn't win. That's why we should never count on a title and it makes me appreciate the near impossible feat of starting the season 38 - 0 even more (even if it does still feel hollow without the championship).
My son was having a very hard time dealing with the loss and I reminded him that even as fans of one of the most successful teams in any sport at any level, our season has ended in a painful loss 105 out of 113 seasons (1954 didn't technically end with a loss, but still offered a painful ending). Ending with a painful loss should be the expectation (for any fan of any team)...that's what makes the championships so joyful - they're hard to come by. I told him if he can't deal with that reality then maybe he shouldn't be a sports fan.
