I am glad you can set aside your political differences. 🙄Brooks has never given my indication he’s going anywhere. He’s never stated he’s testing waters and his dad said he would not be transferring. I don’t agree with brooks politically but he earns my respect by just returning without wild eyes on him. He should be good his junior year. He was a 5* and much stronger game than weyen or some of the others like Sasha and lee.
I would have been ok with him leaving if we would have gone hard after Disu, Timmy of Utah, or Mitchel of Umass. With 2 of them off the board and to TX and Mitchel also rumored to TX I am happy to get Brooks back because I'm not sure who we could get to fill his place and we have a ton of guards. I really hoped we added another big since we don't have anyone on the roster over 6ft9 and the one knock against Oscar is he struggles with size. Of course, all that goes away if IJ returns, but I'm sure that is a long long shot.I am good with him returning, but I am also okay if he leaves. He’s a hustle, high motor player, but is really a man without a position. He’s too small to play inside and not skilled enough to play on the wing. I like him and hope he does well, but he doesn’t really do anything great. I am hoping that the injury slowed him down last year and a 100% Junior Brooks is a much better player than a coming off injury Soph Brooks.
It would be funny if Brooks never announces and just shows up for next season like how college basketball used to be .
Damn. I was hoping it was Brooke Burns.
If he can get his 3% up to 35%+ he can fill the critical swiss army knife role the D. Miller played. Would make this team impossible to zone with the shooters on the perimeter and Brooks playing the ft line knocking down easy floaters and the occasional corner or pick and pop 3I think a lot of fans undervalue him, too. Another offseason to work on his game, more experience, coming back fully healthy and well integrated with a team, I can see him being a 13 and 8 guy at the PF position. He actually led the team in rebounding last year, both on a per game and a per 40 basis. He's a pretty good passer, had 1.6 assists per game last year, and I liked him as the guy in the middle of a zone offense. Getting the ball at the ft line he can hit a jumper or make a good pass. I'm hoping he works on his shooting to become more reliable in that midrange, and get his three% up to ~30% on a couple attempts per game.
I finished twice.I think it moved. Not real sure though.
He only has himself to blame. He mailed it in at UK. Never played hard and appeared to be very lazy. UK and Cal did their part, he just didn't put the effort in.Can you imagine? To be so hellbent on getting out of Lexington as fast as you possibly can only to wind up barely getting minutes on a shitty team in Lithuania.
That’s what I’ve been saying the entire time. Brooks may just show up ready to play and not announce anything.Where else is going to go? Seriously, the only thing he could do would be to transfer.
As long as Cal knows what he plans to do in time to make addition decisions or not, I'm ok with that.It would be funny if Brooks never announces and just shows up for next season like how college basketball used to be .
Brooks is one of those guys that we don't need to have a good year...
Straight from thr horse’s mouth
Plus he's too close to Belarus.Making peanuts, too, in all likelihood.
This board generates its own rumors. It is clear that the vast majority of prognostications here are utter tripe. It's a weird spot.
Anywhere else in the world, a kid that isn't going through the draft process is just back. We've had so many unexpected losses--we've just come to expect it.
His dad shot down transfer rumors immediately after the season ended. Then the transfer rumors started getting louder. And we're all on egg shells waiting for him to make an announcement.
Maybe they just feel like they've said their peace and that there doesn't need to be an announcement.
Great comparison.Brooks so far reminds me of Richard "Master Blaster" Madison. Lots of potential but not played up to it yet.
Hoping he can take the step this year. Has some really underrated hops imo. He and Hopkins could be a good change of pace at the SF.
Looks like Cal is echoing what I've been saying on his drive and competitiveness. Hmm.
You must have missed all of us talking about our concerns with Wheeler. There were several threads, with multiple pages, about it.Why isn't Brooks given the same benefit of the doubt as some other returning and incoming players? We have data that shows Mintz and Wheeler to be not particularly outstanding. Special exceptions are readily made for them, but not for Brooks despite many of them being applicable.
We need as many dice rolls as a possible at finding like 4-6 good players. Brooks on the roster increases our odds of success in that endeavor. He rebounded well, increased his passing ability tremendously since his freshman year, and was one of our best finishers around the rim. He's not devoid of skill by any stretch.
You think only in absolutes, don't you?He was injured to start the year, definitely set him back. But even with that, he averaged 10.3 PPG / 6.8 RPG / 1.6 APG while playing 23 minutes per game. Shot 50% from 2FG, 80% from the FT line. If he maybe would have got some of BJ's shots, he could have done even more. He averaged more rebounds, assist, and pretty much the same points per game as Sarr. He averaged more points (2points), rebounds and assist (more than doubled) per game than Jackson. His per 40 would be 17.5 PPG / 11.5 RPG. / 3 Assist per game. He struggled shooting the 3, he will not have to shoot them this year, we have shooter and more important, makers. He needs to be used on the offensive end going against whatever personal he has the advantage over. Some games, as a 3, some as a 4. Same on defense. I am very happy to have a third year guy back, lets just hope he can have a injury free year, and will only help with him having a full preseason to work on his weaknesses and I really expect the big leap a lot of players have becoming upper classmen.
If you are not excited about him returning, you are just a negative, miserable person, and probably the same one who complains that players leave early, blah, blah, blah. You just cannot find a positive in anything.
No, I think in if we get a really talented player back and will be an upperclassman, to take it as a positive, not try to shit on him. Normal year, full, normal preseason work, and non injury, I think he would have been even better than last year. The sooner fans realize that not EVERY player is going to throw up 20 /10 and shit gold flakes, the better off they will be. He may never be a NBA starter, or even make it for a long career, but he is / will be a very solid to good college player. We will have a very deep, balanced team this year, just because he doesn't average 15 / 10 this year does not mean he regressed or did not get better. I mean damn, the kid battled a nagging injury and missed even more time than Covid caused EVERYONE to miss. You think only in absolutes, don't you?
I think he's the next Kenny Walker.
