Briscoe plays hard

I like Briscoe but the last 5 games:

32 min/game
34% FG
12.5% From 3
4-20 on FTs for 20%.....yes that is 20%
6.6 ppg

He is KILLING our offense.

Darryl

We've got a core group around here that think he's not the problem because he hustles.

News flash. I could run around the court as fast as I can too, but if nothing good happens at the ends of that court, it's not gonna help.

If he simply stops shooting 3's, he'll almost immediately play better.

Cal will let the worst shooters in the country jack up 3 after 3. That's why shooting guards that can't shoot want to come here I guess.

Briscoe is very athletic. Those that say isn't are quite frankly idiots. He and Ulis are the quickest played on the team staying in front of opposing guards defensively. Briscoe can dunk off 2 feet from a step inside the free throw line easily.

Briscoe's shooting problems are primarily mental. He definitely has lost all confidence at this point. He will come out of this. I'm not saying he will be Devin Booker next week but significant improvement will come soon.

The kid fights and plays hard. I am a fan.

Briscoe is not "very athletic". because he's quick and can dunk (lol) doesn't mean that. Good lord.

Fighting and playing hard is great and all, but he's got terrible skills and he won't help you in the end. Good luck with your logic.

No one is saying that Briscoe doesn't play hard. He's one of our strongest rebounders and toughest defenders. If he was 6 inches taller he'd be one hell of a center for us.

The problem is, he's 6'3", has to play on the wing, and it's no exaggeration to say that he has the worst all-around shooting ability of any guard to ever play here. I expected his shot to be inconsistent, but I never expected it to be this bad. It's legendarily, inexcusably bad. The time that he spent working on his body over the summer should've instead been spent working on his shot, and the opposite is true for Skal.

Here we go since the Harrison's are gone let blast Briscoe. He isn't athletic, has no skills, blah blah blah.

Milder should play more, he's a good defender, can shoot, has a 42" vertical and for some reason didn't start on his JC team. Blah blah blah

Hawkins, over three years is shooting 52% ft! and 20% on 3's but hey he played great against Louisville. Blah blah blah

The guards on this team are not the problem, period

He cant shoot but he's killer in transition and penetration.

I don't know if he's a killer in penetration, just yet. I see him needlessly taking the ball into traffic over and over. I don't want to kill him. I just don't think he deserves the minutes he's getting right now. He needs to beat out Hawkins and Mulder, who can help this team more right now.

Let's face it if he was hitting his fts at a 75% rate we wouldn't be saying anything bad about him. If he is as frustrated as our fans are about his ft shooting, he is probably seeing air balls at the ft line in his dreams.

True but I would like to see Skal do it just for fun.

That same core can't recognize that Hawkins hustles just as hard and brings as much, or more, to the table than Briscoe (other than a cool YouTube highlight clip). They prefer to nitpick guys like him and Willis and look for flaws and look for good in all the 5 star guys. Rupp area literally cheered because Briscoe hit a free throw and Skal tried for a possession against Ole Miss. It's unreal to me.

I don't think Hawkins is the answer either. I think they both should be bench situational/role players. I'd give the nod to Hawkins for being 3 years into a career and earning his stripes.

I think for a team that struggles to protect the rim and rebound that the best thing they could do is weaken their perimeter defense and bench one of their better rebounders. Makes sense

The fact that Briscoe shot 72% from the line in high school is astounding. What in the hell has he changed in his form since coming to campus??

Aside from his problem at the line, I love his defense and hustle....and that's about it. Cal recruited him to be that guy that can get to the rim, but he's continually trying to do so against 2-3 defenders at a time. Fouling him and sending him to the line at this point is the same thing as a UK turnover at this point. It does no good for him to drive to the rim if he can make free throws.

An NBA GM would be putting his job on the line in drafting him at this point. He's going to wind up being back next year, trying to earn minutes. Being Archie 2.0 right now is not what we need. Archie did exactly what Briscoe is doing, but he was part of an offensively challenged team with a transfer from Wright State that was the best 3 point shooter. Archie could at least make sixty-something % from the free throw line as well. If this pattern we're seeing continues with Briscoe, I don't look for much improvement to come from this team's offense.

Nothing according to a HS coach, can't remember if it was his HS coach or one that coached against him regularly, as per a post on KSR says

That half circle under the basket is not the free throw line...

Found some video of Briscoe dunking in AAU...
