I think it's time for him to change his mechanics and stance in increments . Practicing with the same technique is not going to help imo , it's a broken shot that needs an overhaul . I mentioned in another thread that his stance is offset with the left foot behind the right foot . He should start with that by squaring up and placing both feet more evenly on the line . See what that does and build from that , how can you hurt 33% anyway ? In fact I think he has to change it because there is no way you shoot that percentage unless your mechanics aren't working for you . A change is the only way he will see drastic improvement , got nothing to lose so make it happen .

Why hasnt he gone back to his high school technique yet? whats he doing? Sandbagging us? lol Go back to the old shooting for the love of god, shoot off your ring finger the way you used to.

If he could just hit 70% of his FT's, that would be a game changer for this team.

It has to be somewhat mental at this point. He looks nervous at the line, and his shot seems to be getting uglier.

Shooting free throws is the most misunderstood and Screwed up part of basketball today. In part because coaches don't have time to work on it.

People don't like it, but free throw mechanics are there for a reason, and please don't give me " you think you know more than blah blah" crap. Save it. I'll put you on ignore.

Point your toes at the damn rim. Keep your eyes on the basketball goal and stop looking down and his percentages will go up just on those aspects alone.

It's funny. I was saying he needs to quit dancing with his shoulders for the camera and focus on the shot. Posters here ripped my legs off for saying it and the very next game he stopped. Lol. The pumpers here never stop. I don't even know why they get on message boards.

FT watch drinking game!!! Can Briscoe top Wallace's FT % before the end of the season?
Ben Wallace (41.5% Career FT, 1.1-2.6 FTA per game, 1,093-2,632 career FT)

Well, first you must take care of the mechanics, then you'll find out if it's mental.

I never saw his high school technique but he should revert if it's different . Sometimes players across all sports change their swing or throwing motion over time without even knowing it . They probably never relied on designated technique or instructions , they probably learned by feel and are susceptible to added movements . Once it gets altered they don't have a base to reset , they just try to get that muscle memory feeling back .

So Briscoe can shoot with the mechanics he used in high school but clearly he has lost that technique , form or whatever . Chicken or the egg which came first , this applies to Briscoe as well . Right now it's mental as well as mechanical but it started as just a shooting form alteration . The good news is that he can hit a very good percentage , it's not like he's doomed as Shaq or someone who's never shot well .

It's all mental on his part. His form looks okay. In warm-ups before the game, he probably makes over 70% of his tries from the free-throw line. He just needs to relax. He is just going through slump similar to how Keith Bogans went through a sophomore shooting slump but turned it on his last two years of school.

He needs to practice with stadium noise pumped over the loud speakers to stimulate a live game situation. He also needs to do some suicides to wear himself down before practicing his free throws.

Briscoe's left hand too much on the front of the ball instead of the side....This affects the direction of the ball in a wayward manner

Get the left hand on the side of the ball and his shooting improves immediately

The left hand doesn't have much to do with since it is removed before release. The direction of the ball comes from the forefinger and middle finger on your shooting hand. Those two fingers are the last on the ball and should act as a guide to the rim.

Just all sorts of messed. Weird arm angles, the ball is WAY too far back in his hand. He's pushing the ball instead of shooting it.

Somebody said he was over 70% in HS...does anybody know if that is true there has to be stats somewhere
Very true . In one game on TV i saw him make 22 in a row and he was 22-24 for the game. Also in another game I watched online he was 14-17 . So he was a damn good shooter his entire hs career and he will be again but this is all in his head .

You know he has to be dreading going to the foul line everytime he gets fouled. I feel sorry for the guy. I hope he starts getting them to fall. Being in a slump is a horrible feeling.

I read somewhere where he is two for the last fourteen attempts. Wow! that is a little less than 15%. You should be able to close your eyes and do that.

Blah, Blah, Blah..... (had to do it.)

Uh yes his left hand has a lot to do with it regardless if it comes off the ball prior to release. The photo posted on this thread and the other thread his left hand is toward the front of the ball and that will make it very difficult to shoot at a high %.

Good-Great FT shooters have a routine at the line that they follow every time whatever that routine is. Develop a comfortable routine (but with proper mechanics) and stick to it and % would easily be 60-70% at a minimum.

He needs to shoot granny style like the big kid who plays for the Dirty Birds. Seriously....

He shoots the ball way too strong. I know some kids might have to much pride to be 'embarrassed' to shoot that way, but I bet he could do it and make at least over half. And that would be a huge improvement.

I'm not a guru but ANYTHING is an improvement. For UK it is a must for the B to improve Freethrows.. an absolute must. H e is a 15 point a game average player if he can hit freethrows.

It is definitely in his head now regardless. You have to wonder if this effects his offensive game even more, ie; settling for jumpers instead of the drive because he doesn't want to get fouled...
