Briscoe enters draft. Hires an agent.

The new recruits are coming to play with Green not IB.
A 3 G line up is not good with what's coming in.
IB & Green can't exist as 2 PGs in same line up.
Too many alpha dogs.............

I am asking because I truly don't know. Would you mind posting the lengthy list of players who went undrafted?

Meant to say guys who left early and were drafted in 2nd round or undrafted. Chad Ford had the list a week or so ago, will try to find it again.

So no title again next year. Same BS over during our down years. We are going to be pretty down now. You don't lose your top seven guys and become a title contender unless there's some out of this world class and next year's isn't.

five possibly SIX five star recruits. plus Diallo, who was a five star. ??????????

aaron harrison averaged 12, 3, and 1.5 for his career. 41% from the field, 33.5% from 3

briscoe averaged 12/5/4 and shot 47% from the field as a sophomore

he was such a liability offensively that uk was top 15 nationally in offense both years, with one consistent frontcourt player (bam) over the last two years

offensive rebounding carried uk on that end of the floor over the twins' career, especially when they were freshmen

I knew what you meant.

Dakari
Lamb
Liggins
Harrisons
Ulis (although it has worked out)

Guys like Teague and Orton went first round but were out of the league in no time.

I don't think the 2017 class is as great as some of the more recent ones.

Even then, we've still never did anything without sophs or veterans. Not a single time.

2010- Needed Patterson
2011- Needed Miller, Liggins, Harrellson
2012- Needed Lamb, Jones and Miller
2013-Ended up in the NIT w/ only Wiltjer return
2014- Needed WCS, Poy
2015- Needed Harrisons, WCS, Poy, Dakari
2016- Just had Lee and Ulis return
2017- Needed Willis, Hawkins, Briscoe

We won't have any of this next year now.

It's Cal's system and the players MAKE THEIR OWN decisions whether to stay or leave.

Beats the heck out of Billy G's or even Tubby Smith's "system". Maybe we could do things like Kansas or even UNC. Let's see how those 2 teams do next season.

Best of luck. He must just want to be done with college. If not, he wouldn't hire an agent and get feedback at the combine. But I wish him the best of luck. Thanks for the 2 years.
You can't take your name out of the draft twice is my understanding of the rules so he might as well hire an agent. Can't come back no matter what.

Actually not. People like Kobi Simmons and others are doing this too. People like to say only at Uk but wrong , wrong ,wrong ,wrong.
BS. There are rare instances of this happening at different places but only at UK does it happen every year.

I never once thought Briscoe would come back again but it still pisses me off. He never was a good decision maker, so I'm not surprised. File him with Orton, Goodwin, Teague and Lamb. He won't get drafted but he will probably make a DLeague team and stick there for a year or two before he washes out overseas and comes back to KY looking for ways to make money off of his UK days.

Cal is either going to have to change the culture here (not likely) or I predict a lot of fans will feel about him like they do Tubby or even like UM fans feel about Cal now. We aren't winning another title with this much yearly turnover.

This "well you gotta go if you're a first rounder" or "he might as well go now after two years" thinking is killing our chances at a title and it's also hurt a handful of players who left too soon. Briscoe is an example. He could have came back and most likely worked his way into a mid 2nd round pick at worst with next years draft being weaker. Not to mention the rookie pay scale goes up next year and there's a good chance that rookie contract is the only one Briscoe ever gets so he needs every dollar he can get. Bam is another example. He was a top 10 recruit who was projected to top 10 in the draft. Now he's looking at late first round. The end of the lottery if he's lucky. He absolutely should come back. For him, his second contract will be more important than his first so he needs to be ready to contribute right away and he's not there yet. I'm sure 95% of the posters here would have said Blake Griffin was dumb for coming back another year when he was a OAD lotto pick but it worked out pretty damn well for him. Every kid is different and shouldn't be pidgeon holed into leaving.

briscoe turns 21 next week

he was not going to improve his stock by coming back unless his shooting progressed beyond any reasonable expectation

Gabriel and Humphries are plenty experienced and have plenty of big game experience. SKJ was a 5 star and the talent is there if he has a good summer he could be a nice addition. Tai is entering his 2nd summer of workouts. Diallo is already acclimated to the program as well.

2 Sophmore 5-star recruits returning
1 Junior 4-star recruit back
1 RS-Sophomore who already was on the team last spring
1 RS-Freshman 5 star who practiced with the team all Winter/Spring

That's 5 decent players back to go along with the other 5 commits we have already.

Add in a Bam return/Bamba commit, Cameron Johnson, or even a Baker/Smith...that's a pretty good roster with talent and an ok amount returning.

Losing an experienced wing player off an already thin backcourt is the best thing for our team?

Why not wait until recruiting (and you see them play) before
saying THIN.
I'm pleased with Green and Shai as PG. Cal seems to also.

I get it. None of us would pick the Billy or Tubby era but we can't get a pro player to stay three years anymore like UNC did this year or like Duke has done with Grayson Allen. Guys are turning pro despite not even being projected as first rounders and some not even drafted at all.

It's hard to not win titles and it feels like an eternity especially when your rivals snag one.

I bet his Dad was the biggest Cheerleader wanting him to leave. Seems really dumb to hire an agent when you don't have to, but I guess he found the right agent that's telling him what he wants to hear.

Good luck to him. Great kid.

Also I laugh every time I read about "Maybe we'll have some guys return from next year's class" for the 2018-2019 season. The only reason they are here is to get out as soon as possible and they will undoubtedly be recruited over for the next group of freshmen.
Man you're really upset about this huh? My question to you is "Why be mad at something you know is gonna happen?" Since Cal has been here, this is the norm. He makes no bones about it. Players first. And you know what, he's right because if it were YOUR son and there was an opportunity to better himself, you would want him to take advantage of that opportunity.

In regards to Briscoe... him leaving is best. It means we'll have Green at PG, (who is a better PG)... Diallo at SG who is more athletic and a better shooter than briscoe....... and a SF in Washington or Vanderbilt (or maybe knox) who are 6'8 and both can shoot the ball as well if not better than Briscoe.

Now if Cal would be willing to have Briscoe be the back up........then its best for us if he returns butttttttttttttt we all know Cal and Briscoe would start somewhere if he returned.

I keep seeing where some of the incoming players are not necessarily OADs. I have not kept up but was just reading some blurbs last night. Do you think Cal may actually be subtly shifting his strategy?

UNCheat and Duke until recently fomented a culture that basically guilt-tripped players into staying. The whole "we don't do that here" line.

Coach K: "Dammit, Grayson! That's not what I meant by guilt-tripping players"!!

OK enough of that.... I was hoping Briscoe would come back also, but I figured he wouldn't. In regards to him not being able to shoot...Rondo seemed to do OK in the NBA without being able to shoot. I'm not implying he is better than Rondo, but ball handling, being able to lead a team, good defender, driving and dishing are also skills that are useful in the NBA. I don't know if he'll ever make it to the NBA, but not being a great "shooter" is not an end all-be all.

Good Luck to him.

Don't get the folks saying it's not okay to bring up Kobi Simmons he's a freshman guard that is slated to go late in the first round . That isn't a good decision . Made more sense for him to come back than it did Briscoe

The only thing that bothers me about top 10 recruits that come here is that they feel they need to leave after their freshman or sophomore year or they are a failure. Since Cal's first recruiting class, there have been 70 players who were top 10 in Rivals and have had the opportunity to play at least 2 years. Among those 70 guys, and assuming Briscoe does not get drafted, there will be 4 players who left after there freshman or sophomore year and not get drafted....3 of them played at UK (Chris Walker is the 4th). I don't mind guys leaving early, I hope Briscoe succeeds, I just wish guys who were not ready didn't automatically think they had to go of they were a failure.

IB should have went to Rutgers or SJU where he could have been a full time PG even if it was a crappy team.

IB was basically forced into being a 6'2 SF for two yrs just the way it worked out. He got caught betweenUlis and Fox not to mention Monk and Murray. IB benefited UK more than UK benefited him.

2015 team would have been better off with ulis, booker, and briscoe than the twins

briscoe's defensive rebounding much better

much better penetrator than passer--but andrew wasn't much of either
