Breaking down the Cats and Ragin' Cajuns

I think things are finally going to change under Stoops. He will be the most popular person in the state of Kentucky if he gets us to 9-10 win seasons consistently.

That would be a remarkable achievement indeed. Going back 10 years, not one single college football team has won 9 or more games every year

Heck, I'd be willing to name my next child "Stoops" if he got UK to fluctuate between 7-10 wins on the cycles.

Great work once again Erik! I think the Cats are primed for a huge first game, and I'll be shocked if it's close. ULL simply won't have the horses to run with the Cats. While young, UK has more "SEC caliber" talent from top to bottom than we've ever had before (sans Bear Bryant teams). I expect UK to be relatively vanilla on offense, but I do expect to see more deep balls in Shannon Dawson's offense. I look for the o-line to open up some holes for Boom and the other backs. I'm predicting a 200+ total rushing yards efffort from the Cats. I think Jojo and Mikel will get some carries and they may even work King in the mix if the score is out of hand.

On defense, I honestly think the Cats will be much improved from last year. Losing Dupree and Smith hurts but the Cats will be so much better and deeper in the other positions that I see the Cats being a defense that'll be ranked in the 40-50's by seasons end. With the emergence of some young talent (ie Westry, Daniel,) I think the Cats are going to get better and better each season in the near future. I'll be shocked if AJ doesn't have a big year.

Kentucky 56
Louisiana Lafayette 14

man my concerns about our defense will definitely be eased if we hold ULL to under 20 like so many of you think. hope that comes true!!
I really hope the secondary play is better. If we can cover guys, even reasonably, it opens up so many more opportunities to pressure the LOS in both run and pass scenarios.

I agree with most of the write up, but I have a feeling that Stoops will kind of pump the brakes a bit in the second half. Let's say is UK is up 31-7 at half or something similar, I could see him pulling a few of the starters on O but keeping in his main defense for the most part and spreading in some more youth as the game winds down to see what he has.

I say final of 41-20.

Still holes on D, lots of inexperienced youth throughout. Will have enough for the W however. 34-28 UK.

I'll go 38-10 UK. Sprint out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and coast home with lots of running plays and continuing to stop them on D. It's not Stoops' MO to run up the score or even take chances when he doesn't have to - Ohio, ULM, VU last year show that IMO.

If Kentucky wins by only six, it will be because they laid an egg (IMO). ULL just doesn't look like much of a threat.

It looks like some of their fans are confident they can pull an upset, however most of their fans are facing the reality that UK will win. They seem to be venturing over here so if their fans are reading this I want you all to know that UK is taking football seriously and the sun belt teams, like Lafayette, are warm ups for the real opponents. However the Cajun fans should rest assured they are being taken more seriously than eku and Charlotte. However this is a prep game for the sec teams.
UK wins 38-14
