Brea/Carr/Almonor

The threads that constantly say this after every loss are so annoying, have gotten really old, and are pretty inaccurate. A healthy Carr is obviously an SEC player. He basically won us the Duke game. Brea is an SEC role piece who has been pushed into the starting lineup due to injuries. He also basically won us the UT game at home. Almonor is the same, a quality role player who is valuable.

Not every guy on a team can be a great player. These guys fit in just fine, they're just inconsistent at times or hurt.

Yes, they are role players at best, that is my point. Championship teams don’t have role players playing 20 plus minutes a game. I’m not bashing the players, Pope or the team. I’m simply saying if we want to win championships (that is what we want right?). Our talented level has to be better. Brea, Carr and Almonor level key players will not bring championship to Kentucky.

Its kind of what we've known since the beginning. I won't say they aren't worthy of the SEC... but probably not talented enough for an elite program or a high level team. Things at times seem to come so difficult for them and they do often look overmatched, weaker and slower when playing against the top25.

But if we just added one or two more high level players, then everyone's assignment on this team gets easier. That's all it really takes to take this team to the next level.. one or two more guys.

Carr is not a role player. Brea is more of a role player but cannot be one right now because of the injuries. Almonor is only getting 15 minutes per game, and that's inflated by the big minutes he was getting when Carr was hurt. So I don't really get your point to be honest. Any guy who is a role player currently being used as a feature guy is doing so because of injuries.

Our biggest problem this year is these three are not SEC quality players. We are forced to play them way too many minutes because it’s all we have. The three of them cannot guard a paper bag. They cannot create their own office. I give the freshman a pass because they’re freshman. Those three are seniors and hopefully this is the last year we deal with subpar talent at multiple positions.
Brea with 21 and Carr with 20 today. Brea was our second leading rebounder with 6. Who else on the team could have done better? NO ONE besides Butler on this team can play a lick of defense. If I was going to pick on a position that gave us nothing today, I’d pick on the guards.

Carr is a role player on a high level championship team. I want championships, players like Carr playing 25 plus minutes a game will not bring championships. He can not defend, and he is super slow. With that being said, I believe Pope will fix that problem. He understands team athleticism needs to be a lot higher.

He can’t defend, when he’s not making shots he’s unplayable.

It’s true. He’s a specialist that’s been forced to cover for Jax because of his injury. Can’t expect him to be something he isn’t and never has been. It just doesn’t work like that no matter how much we want it to.
Idk if that’s true. When you say “we are Kentucky” it transforms a player into a carbon copy of prime Michael Jordan. Every basketball attribute can be summarized by “playing hard enough”.

Teams like this owned Cal his last 5 years at UK.

To be honest these three are not why we lost, but I guess you did not watch the game.

I don’t think some of yall realize how different this team is if fully healthy. Losing a backup PG in Kerr early, Robinson, & now a banged up Butler has significantly altered this team. There’s very little room for error when you build a roster in a short amount of time and Pope has been forced to change everything around all season. A fully healthy Robinson and Butler changes todsys game no question. We still probably lose considering Kelly went nuclear banking in 3s and knocking them down with no space at all but it would have been very competitive.

You obviously did not read what I said. I didn’t once say they are why we lost today. My point is they are role players at best. Championship teams don’t have role players playing 20 plus minutes a game. If we want to win championships and not just be good, our talent level has to be better. I believe Pope knows this and we will be much more athletic and talented in the future.

And to a point I disagree, Carr before he hurt his back was more than a role player, Brea started out as a three point specialist but has adjusted to the fact teams are not going to let him shoot the three, and both have shown they can at times create their own shot, I will admit until this game Carr has not looked the same, but he has been coming around.

They are the type of players that make us a finish 3rd to 8th in SEC and a 3 to 6 seed every year. I thought this was KY, I want championship. I want to dominate, we will not do either without better talent and athleticism. If you are ok with being middle of the road then yea I guess they are just fine. They are backups on championship level teams. I’m not bashing them, Pope or the team. I understand Pope had to take what he could because he had to start from scratch. Going forward if they are the level of talent we have playing major minutes. We will not dominate or win championships.

I want us to be competitive something our former coach did not care about. These guys beat Duke, Gonzaga, UT twice and Florida and if they get a good bracket could make a run in the tournament. I don't believe in trashing UK players, I support them.

The problem is the trajectory of the team we started strong and are limping to finish

Why don't you just shut the hell up about it until CMP gets a chance to get more players. He did pretty good for the time he had this year. Bitching about it over and over now does no good at all. Get behind the players we NOW have instead of putting them down, which actually hurts things. They do read what is said about them, you know.

You obviously can’t read or something. That’s exactly what I just said above. I did not bash the players. I’m simply saying they are not champions caliber in the roles they are in. I understand Kentuckys education system suck. Most people can read at least when they graduate.
