Braydon Hawthorne will announce his college decision in May 20, Kentucky in his top 5

Trust in Pope. If we get him there is a plan, if we do not get him there is a plan. I could see the Potter guy redshirting or walking on but it is probably doubtful.

I would assume he would just be moved to a walk-on. Not that it matters that much anyway as NIL can more than offset the value of a scholarship.
This is something that has had me wondering. Everyone keeps talking scholarship count but who cares if you have a scholarship or walk on status if the University is paying you 2+ million?

If he chooses UK then I will root for him for as long as I live unless he turns traitor.

If he chooses somewhere else, then I hope he gets hurt bad. And I hope he spends the rest of his torturous days in constant agony cursing the day he decided to string UK along.

Go Big Blue.

I think the rules for riding on the team planes, hotels, practice times, and all that come into play.
Not sure if the rules have changed recently. In the past, recruited players could not be walk-on’s. Once you take a scholarship, you cannot just give it up and be a walk-on.

I remember a player or two under Pitino giving up scholarship to add a player. Seems like around Mills time but not 100% sure.

That would be awesome. As long as they have the scholarship situation figured out, bring it!
Even though there’s nothing I watched where I see it yet, my boy said the scouts he knows are in love with the kid.

Considering we have a kid who was a late bloomer that should win MVP and is in the WCF… I’m all for it.

If you can add a guy like this--do it. Selling point-we'd be all over you in the Portal but can develop you/practice against the older players and then you have a chance to take a massive leap that 2nd yr. Impressive height/skill combination and needs to add strength (as most HS prospects do).

Hope he ends up wit the Cats tonight but if not, they did a great job recruiting him until the end/building a relationship for a potential Portal jump after '26 season if he ends up elsewhere and has a strong season.

I’ll be happy if the kid comes here but admittedly if I was advising him, I’d have him go to the highest bidder that also is providing playing time.

Let’s just say he’s man 13 with local guy Potter as 14 and they both effectively redshirt or play de minimis minutes. You’ll have Oweh, Aberdeen, and Quaintance at least leave/graduate. Chance for Jasper, Kam, and Jaland as well. Potential transfer out of a guy or two as well.

But then you’ll add pieces in 2026 recruiting. Probably fair to expect 2-3 lock rotation freshman recruits(like consensus top 25 types). Then the transfer portal additions.

It’s just hard for me to see a world where on paper the kid can clearly see a comfortable role on the 26-27 roster.

I personally just don’t see the need in spending hundreds of thousand of dollars to develop a depth piece in the portal era.

Two things:

1). Why do scholarships matter anymore with NIL? Kids should in theory be able to pay their own way

2). Who are the insiders for UK basketball to follow these days? Seems like we have no one to look to for legit info these days
