Brandon Huntley-Hatfield cut by UK

It is troubling that we have to look outside of both Banchero and BHH for frontcourt options, especially given that odds were decent to land at least one just last month. Hopkins would be a nice addition, but his size is questionable for a traditional PF.

He’s gonna be another kid we thought was a lock early that goes elsewhere. I’ve even heard Cal hasn’t even been paying much attention to him lately. Guess he has better four star options out there 🙄
When Cal/UK backs off a recruit you can be sure there's a problem with the recruit/handlers/coach/family or money being sought. Cal has stopped recruiting several top recruits that have been involved with shady handlers, several went to Kansas and Arizona etc. Red flag says, problem with handler/coach.

Was just about to post the same thing. There has to be a reason when Cal backs off a player and we will fine out later maybe. Good post

If the staff backs off of the kid....... its for good reason. but putting all our eggs into the baskets of BHH, Banchero, Hardy, and Skyy for several months is starting to come back to bite us.

If we can get Lucas on staff and if that can bring in Collins, then we just traded up from BHH . lets hope this happens

Oh, I just posted some positive, some negative and some positive things here.... I wonder if KL's head will explode seeing that you can indeed post both. lol

I’ve said this before I’ve seen him play live. He has DECENT perimeter skills and he’ll probably continue to get better but he is a 4 through and through. He showed at times he didn’t want to get in there and mix it up and with his size and length against aAn undersized local team(albeit great team/program) he sure didn’t play to his size. We can find better. Frankly not tough enough for me.

Same. Seem him AAU twice and an open gym. He's a 4. He loves to float tho

has Cal said he has all his eggs in one basket
how many so called experts knew about Hickman

just saying, no one really knows all the guys Cal is recruiting

So basically cal quit recruiting him because he changed High Schools?

I think the kid was talking out both sides of his mouth as the old saying goes. He was telling Cal he was coming, then telling reporters he wasn’t necessarily a UK lock, and also telling other schools he was interested in them. Cal probably got tired of it and decided there were better prospects and cut ties. The kid and his camp blames it on anything and everything else he can other than himself, which is human nature.

you can’t win with these guys man

UK backing off speaks volumes to me. Cal usually does this for a couple of reasons.

There are people involved on the kid's side that Cal feels uneasy with or the kid has said or done somthing to turn Cal off. Either way, he is overwhelmingly right in htese moves in the past.

you might want to follow recruiting closer because insiders and experts are saying we're slipping with Hardy. Started with rumblings that Hardy and his people felt like less of a priority over the past few months.
I wish you felt the same.

How is it known that UK backed off?

I agree with those that question his play. I watched him several times on tv & never did come away impressed. Always seemed to stand around & stay outside

Wow. Mr negative can be positive. Not much but he does throw in a positive comment once in a while.

in Cal we trust- I think he kinda knows what he is doing as far as recruiting goes- anybody worrying/doubting UK recruiting should probably be checked to see if they are OK

Nothing about the game today is traditional if we’re being honest. Plus we have plenty of 4’s and combo forwards probably returning next year.

Could be- or could be a non-issue with Jackson, Ware, Toppin and Fletcher returning.

I don’t think it’s a question about his talent or ability to play well here. If the staff backs off a kid it’s usually for a good reason. I trust their judgement.

I assure you when Cal backs off a recruit there are other power schools that take notice, they look much harder at said recruit. As putting all the eggs in one basket, just look at Cal's past success compared to others since he's been at KY. There's no comparisons, he's been the best.
