Brandon Garrison.

We can always dream on potential of a player.

Fact is if they don't want to play/practice with the best players possible for a chance to do special things as part of a team then we'd be better off parting ways.

Ill trade Garrison for a more consistent scorer, better rebounder, someone who doesn't get lost on defense and has a better sense for taking care of the basketball.

Preferably I want him to stay. Let's get him what he needs financially and support this kid. BG why would you leave UK especially now? You are one of the corner stones for us to having a special year. Your dreams can be made here in Lexington.

"Unique memories" is one way to describe it lol.

Yes. Memories of him gunning threes from the top of the key soon as the ball hit his hands and getting dumb techs while also getting pushed under the boards while opponents get offensive boards.

I won't miss him.

I recall, when Brandon committed last year, thinking the coolest part was that he had three more years of eligibility and thus wasn’t just one of those year rentals.

How naive was I?

This should be sort of the first wake up call, that a recruit's remaining years of eligibility mean absolutely nothing, and honestly.. we probably shouldn't even use it as a factor. They're worth only marginally more than a guy who is on his final year.

This. Everything is a one year window. Even if you keep someone, you have to pay them more. Best case scenario is assemble a young squad like Florida and use your nil to keep them together, for better or worse. That continuity is a huge advantage.

Also jmo but this isnt in response to jq coming in but it's absolutely 1) response to jq getting more nil and 2) knowing he has some leverage since we'll be down a big at least part of the season.

Hes probably going to ask for 1.25-1.5 but would settle for 1 mil. So imo take that money and get an actual stretch 4 because we need shooters as is.

Yep all players today are 1 year rentals and that's how all fans should look at it going forward. If you look at it any other way you're bound to be disappointed.

To be fair to him Garrison hit quite a few timely threes as well. He definitely has the ability to step out and it seemed like the games Amari went missing or had issue he would always step up for like 12/8. I hoped he would stay. Roster continuity in this climate is ridiculously undervalued IMO..

He definitely hit some but he shot us out of other games by taking that 3 super early in the shot clock. Teas left him open hoping thats the shot uk would take, and he couldn't pass it up.

Continuity is extremely important but you need the right guys. Both sides need committed to it and he is never going to be. He way over values his ability which is why he guns those 3s.

Imo he wants more money from UK, probably the same as jq, but he isnt worth it at least not this year.

Is he still doing that autograph signing show in Louisville on April 28? Definitely going to that now. Could be my last chance!

But seriously, I’ll be a little bummed if he leaves. I thought he was a guy who had serious upside —if he committed on the same level as Nick Richards to improving. (Saw Nick in an NBA game at the DC arena earlier this year. He’s not a star but he’s playing in the league still, so it was worth it.)

Continuity is great, but if Garrison is going to pout about playing time as Pope makes the team more athletic and better defensively to try to win a championship then he needs to go. Toxicity is a bigger negative than continuity is a positive.

If true we are dodging a bullett. BG was going to shoot at least 2-3 three pointers next year and Pope encouraged it. I can’t stand watching non shooters practice expanding their game during games. This opens the door for a superstar and we’ll get one.

All depends on what he’s asking for and what money is left honestly.

Why is everyone jumping off a cliff again for one thing it's not official yet and if Brandon decides to leave than it's his choice and life . We all have left jobs before to go to another no difference here . Brandon I hope you stay but if you leave then Godspeed to you young man 👍

I’m with you on Garrison shooting. I’d like him to stay as long as he doesn’t try to be Steph Curry. I’m amazed at some of these players who have a huge advantage in size and strength that want to be a guard. Dunk, block, rebound. As the old saying goes, you can’t teach size. And everytime a big man jacks up a 3 it’s one less big man under the backer for the rebound.

To me it feels like being a world class guitar player and deciding you want to be the drummer.

He will be top 100 easy, probably one of the top remaining big men in the portal. He was top 20 last year and this year is thin on bigs.
diaboute isn’t top 100, and was a better player.

That was the major factor for me considering he may not be top 100

Not saying he won’t be. Idk. And of course it doesn’t matter at all as we all know

Just basing it on his rank last year and the lack of remaining good big men. He will definitely get paid no matter where he ends up but he’s for sure top 100.

I’d say it’s because someone else is coming I.e. Jayden Quaintance
It’s also possible that Pope told him it's not just Quaintance that's coming.
Pope appears to be a guy that gets in front of everything.
Bringing more guys on like this, can definitely upset the apple cart, so communication is really important here.

The "BG is leaving" rumor was being floated a month ago. I love his potential, but if he's got to go, so be it. I would have loved for him to stick with it and compete with JQ and Moreno and get better.

His 6 points and 3 to 4 reserve rebounds per game can and will be replaced.

With a move like this, is he really betting on himself for the long term? The NBA wants guys who compete and get better. If Garrison goes to a lesser program playing against lesser players in practice, at what point does he think his overall development will occur?

BG was extremely frustrating as a fan. One minute he'd make you cheer, the next you're throwing something through your TV screen.
I agree with you totally. He and Thiero were like that for me for different reasons. BG could be the black hole of basketball at times but then play like a serviceable big man at times. Thiero on the other hand would throw down a dunk on the opposing center and posterize them but come down 2 plays later and get his shot blocked by Zachai Zeigler.

If he is leaving, that will open it up for a LEGIT stretch 4. Hopefully the Spaniard will come back to the states and Coach Pope can get him signed.
Could be that the Spaniard is waiting to see what Garrison does before he commits.

Whew, I thought the second letter was an "a" at first. I was trying to picture that one.

Not a huge loss if he leaves, but I you won't be able to replace his upside in the portal. So much potential but questionable decision making. Showing up to campus as a 5 star McDonalds all American and instantly getting someone pregnant as a 17/18 year old freshman really summarizes him. Just a little to careless but i hope it works out for him.

I don’t blame Garrison

1. He came here as backup to be the starter in year 2.
2. But to me blunt…Garrison showed no improvement in low post scoring, not Newley as good passing as Amari, shot 30% pt and was so so rebound and same shot block.
3. If Garrison was better../we’d never go for Quantenance….simple as that
4. The big gamble is if Quamtence is injured most of next season….were in a pickle

BG has the tools, just not sure he has figured things out yet. I also really like his effort. There were always plays that led me to believe he will never get it. Multiple times of literally shoving players trying to block out - not nudges that may not get noticed but huge shoves out of frustration. Also watching him live when a shot would go up and he would literally run AWAY from the basket to block someone out. Frustrating to watch as the effort is there, just not proper execution. I would hate for him to leave because of the tools and effort with which he plays. With more minutes and patience he will learn, it just may not happen at UK

I think it was Q and getting recruited over that triggered this. And Q may not play until January. I would have preferred Garrison to stay, but rolling the dice for as just as good a replacement in the portal is okay with me.

A lot of services were slow to rank MD. Have they ranked him now?

Garrison would have schools lined up to pay him if he enters the portal.
Not sure any of these schools are that good…

He looked like a non special big all year. Could he develop, sure.

If we landed a BG look alike in the portal this year everyone would be complaining.

Look at where Aaron Bradshaw is ranked…
