Brandon Garrison.

If BG is gone, drop a bag and a half on Folguereis and get Wilkerson. Now, you have no weaknesses other than continuity
Yep. I don't even think it would be much of a hit to continuity because dude wouldn't have been doing himself or us any favors trying to anchor the center spot in Pope's offense, and he would be starting almost where anyone else would be starting learning the 4 spot. He would have been a little bit ahead by knowing Pope's system in general, and some terminology and philosophy. But I think that's most like June through October stuff.

I'll miss the dude if he really jets. Nice spunk. Word was Amari nearly bolted when we signed BG in the first place so I'm not gonna think of this as quite over yet necessarily. But if he goes. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Still need another pure big man I think. The timeline on JQ seems *very* optimistic to me.

Alvaro fills a big void. Great shooter, elite defensive rebound metrics and good passer but we could still use a rim-protector. I think that's a bigger need than another scoring guard honestly. I'm high on Moreno but would like another big with some experience.

BG's probably shopping for more money. Let's be honest, it's not like he deserves a big raise. A lot of people may not know that he's got a 1-year-old kid too.

Would not love it, would not hate it. Can not risk having a disgruntled employee impacting the vibe. IF BG doesn't want to be here, so be it. Either way, I thank him for his time as a CAT in what was a fun year and wish he and his family a successful future. That said...

Well. That's a whole other take on shot selection.

Brother, I agree. Much is made of continuity and rightfully so. But the idea isn’t just to bring anyone back —- you have to bring the right people back. They have to be talented, experienced and the best fit to get the most out of continuity. BG is a pretty good passer but asking him to be a point center felt like trying to force blood from a turnip. I think he could excel in the right system—-I’m just not sure a 5 out zoom offense is the perfect system for his skillset. I think that’s why Pope was willing to recruit over him.

Have mixed emotions. Garrison showed us all flashes of a player who could be really really good, but among other things, he struggled with consistency. Our last 5 games were elimination games and he played well in maybe only one of them?

Roster continuity matters. And we're probably gonna have a hard time finding a 6'10 athletic 4/5 man who can hit the open 3, has experience at the highest level of college basketball, and is down to compete for their minutes.

If Pope was expecting Garrison to be able to take that step in improvement for next season, I'd say just pay him a bag

Do we even have a shot at signing him?

Haven't seen a list of schools he has interest in since he announced he would not be participating in AAU ball this summer.

Also, has he even said that he was for sure reclassifying to play this upcoming season yet?
No . He is not playing AAU this summer so some people thought it meant he was reclassifying. But it’s not connected. That’s “as of now “ .

Nailed it.

If there's anything to this, that's why we needed another big. Wonder if it means someone else is coming.

Yeah, I hate to hear this, if it turns out to be a definite. I was expecting Garrison to either start or have a similar role as this season, where he contributed pretty much every game.

Are you doing okay? I haven't seen you around in awhile.

Goodbye! That's a guy that will leave and I won't care at all. Drove me crazy watching him never want to pass unless it was absolutely necessary. He will be replaced with a better option, and really already has but we will get another for depth.
I’ll be honest, I’ve seen people say “he could have been really good” but I don’t really see it. He had very few flashes of anything I thought he could build on over the course of the year.

Would have rather be stayed, but also the guy I Ieast care about leaving.

My biggest worry with him is his basketball IQ seems low. To me he just doesn’t seem to have a great feel for the game. Also there is nothing he does particularly well. Does shoot well. Doesn’t rebound well for a big. Doesn’t have great touch. Doesn’t pass well. He’s athletic for his size. He’s big. He’s got potential to develop some of those average areas of his game into strengths. But not all of these guys can get there and it seems like he’s likely leaving so good luck, no ill will.

I recall, when Brandon committed last year, thinking the coolest part was that he had three more years of eligibility and thus wasn’t just one of those year rentals.

How naive was I?
That’s the way it is now unfortunately. I really wanted him to stay.

Good to see you posting again! I have to say though if BG is starting next year we’re in bad shape. Just my opinion.

That’s why eventually it will end up a multi-year contractual thing most likely. I watch Field of 68 talk about it and I was forced to agree with Hunter Dickinson on it. I had to take a shower twice after that
Yeah he actually made a great point. I hated it as well. You want a player from a team, you have to buy them out of their NIL as well.

I would expect Pope wouldn’t be too devastated if BG goes portaling. Selective energy output and a little selfish at times. His skill set does not match his self confidence, yet. Plus, Moreno is going to surprise some people. Will contribute as Freshman. Def need another big though!

would like to keep him for just continuity but his energy levels were suspect at times at best. seems like a good kid overall so whatever he decides i hope the best, i'll alway think of that crazy play against illinois he had.
