Brandon Garrison.

That's why it's hard to build a legit roster in today's game, the players don't want depth, they want to be the MAN, though if they get injured, fatigued, what have you, there's no one on the pine to be ready to step up, crazy. He's leaving because of the JQ signing, not looking at the big picture, it would help his situation as well, he would improve. He's not playing in the NBA, IMO, though he could do great overseas.

Goodbye! That's a guy that will leave and I won't care at all. Drove me crazy watching him never want to pass unless it was absolutely necessary. He will be replaced with a better option, and really already has but we will get another for depth.
Man, I hate to pile on but I agree. He wasn’t my favorite. I support all Wildcats but he didn’t have me exactly pumped when I thought he’d be the starting center

Hate it. He was frustrating at times bc he’s so raw but he has the size, athleticism, and potential to have been a major contributor the next 2 years with just slight ball handling improvements and learning to use his body on the glass and post defense a little better.

But that’s the world we live in now, you lose a guy like that, they go play somewhere else for a year and make those improvements and then re-transfer back to another semi step up program…instead of looking 1 year ahead at thwit current program

I’m pretty certain it’s because of Quaintance.

He thought he was just entitled to the starting spot after Amari leaves. No fair expecting him to compete for it.
It’s hard to build a roster now. You never know from one year to the next who’s going to stick around.

If he was THAT dude though, Pope wouldn’t have recruited over him. I’m all for continuity but if you see a guy isn’t good enough, you do what’s best for the team. I support BG doing what’s best for him whatever that means going forward. We are missing a stretch four and now we can get one.

If Brandon decides transfer I would go all in for Stokes..
Do we even have a shot at signing him?

Haven't seen a list of schools he has interest in since he announced he would not be participating in AAU ball this summer.

Also, has he even said that he was for sure reclassifying to play this upcoming season yet?

Stokes most likely will not be an option in the state of Kentucky if the rumors are to be believed. Won’t say what it is but there are some pretty heavy rumors that will have him go play outside the state of Ky if true

Yeah kind of a conundrum. Great athleticism and skills that with more polish could be great, but not strong around the basket at all on either end and when leaned on could not separate to get the ball off the glass or defend that well. In todays game you have to have that ability or a big.

I'm not gonna worry if he leaves. Honestly, anyone we might grab out of the portal as a replacement would likely be better. Heck, we are already bringing in 3 guys who IMO are significantly better: JQ, Dioubate and Moreno. That is why he's leaving (if he does). If we bring in Folgueiras as a replacement, we'll be getting a much more capable player. So I'm not gonna sweat this. Garrison isn't a difference maker and probably never will be.

If we sign another starter at SG, I'll legitimately be worried about losing JJ!

The great; John wooden said, "if you want to win championships you have to shorten your rotation".
When 8 players play together for 25-30 min a game, they all develop chemistry and play at a higher level. when you shorten there minutes, they don't reach there max potential.

Coach cal played his guys to many minutes, and created fatigue at the end of the season.

But Auburn,FL,AL,ect played there starters around 28-30 minutes on average. First 2-3 bench guys played around 20 minutes!
I believe 25-28 you can get max effort without running out of gas at the end of the year.
That's what it takes to develop guys to play at there best IMO.

I recall, when Brandon committed last year, thinking the coolest part was that he had three more years of eligibility and thus wasn’t just one of those year rentals.

How naive was I?
That is the frustration of this new era. You simply can’t assume anyone is a multi-year player anymore no matter how much eligibility they theoretically have when they get here.

If this is what it looks like though, it might be at least somewhat mutual in this case. Pope isn’t stupid, so he had to know this decision was possible once he recruited multiple players who were a direct threat to Garrison’s playing time. Hopefully that means he already has a plan for what to do if that roster spot opens up.

Bummer that's going to be the tough part about recruiting "multiple year" kids.

I for one aren't terribly upset with him leaving. Just means we can find a better player in the portal.

Onto the next UK is accustomed to one n done players after all.

This should be sort of the first wake up call, that a recruit's remaining years of eligibility mean absolutely nothing, and honestly.. we probably shouldn't even use it as a factor. They're worth only marginally more than a guy who is on his final year.

Long shot for the NBA, he’s getting his bag and wants to shop around…strictly business.
