Brandon Garrison back?

Not sure why some people don't really want him back. Any continuity you can get in this era is a good thing, plus with Pope's system relying so much on movement and cutting having a big guy who has a year's experience with it will be a huge plus. Garrison has the tools, he just needs to refine them.

My question is how does Garrison get better?

He won't ever be a shot blocker so his defense on the ball must improve. Can he improve his 3 point % again I can't see his back to back game improving and he's not really a lob threat.

I feel about Brandon Garrison the same way I felt about Nick Richards when the consensus was to write him off -- and for the same reason:

I always looked at Nick Richards' 'game highlights reels' which were very impressive, and felt like if he can do that occasionally, he can do it fairly frequently with more concentration and with a huge commitment to get in his best physical shape so that fatigue isn't his enemy. His final year at Kentucky he did that.

I feel that same way about Brandon Garrison. His ceiling is pretty high. He just has to reach it more often.

My concern too, DraftCat. Difficult to see what he’s good at. He’s okay at a few things and I don’t see a star in the making. Hoping I’m wrong

I agree with this. I always liked Richard’s and could easily see the potential, luckily we got to see it his junior year.

I want Garrison back but I’d also like to get another center in case he doesn’t reach his potential next year. Moreno seems good, but he is a freshman. Not sure two is enough in this situation.

He won’t ever be a shot blocker- false. At Oklahoma State averaged more than one a game. There are kinks and different things you can do to become a better shooter and be better for what the team needs. Negative people, really get off on negativity.

Was he used the same? He regressed in a lot of important categories at UK compared to OK St. I'll give you the fact he played 5 more min on average his freshman year.

I just don't think he's a starter on a championship level team. Perhaps if we get him his Senior year as well.

Garrison is a perfect test case for evaluating how good our staff is at developing players.

6'10, pretty good athlete, can make an open 3, has shown flashes of being able to guard 1-5, and has already played tons of minutes at the highest level of college basketball. That's the good. The bad is he's weak on the boards, not the best at decision making, soft down low, and really struggled with consistency. About to be an upperclassmen so I really see room for growth here.

Let’s hope he figures out that he is supposed to know where the ball is even when he does not have it and that when no one has it he should attempt to get it.
Also, just because someone passes him the ball doesn’t mean he is required to shoot it.

I’d be happy to have him back, but I don’t think a signing is any indication. We had players doing signings on their way to follow Cal to Arkansas. Anything to make a buck.

Not many quality bigs in the portal. If you get Yaxel and have 3 big physical guards that takes a lot of pressure off BG. We tried to use him like Williams last year and that is not him.
He’s fine at the top of the key but he is not supposed to watch rebounds bounce right in front of him and let plays happen two feet away while he is looking in the wrong direction.

I am not giving up on Travis Perry. Travis scored 5400 pts in hs he just needs a year to learn how to play defense he never had to play defense in hs . Travis will make alot of people eat crow 5400 is no fluke Travis is a big time prolific scorer
.

Exactly. He didn't exactly play enough minutes to know what he can do. He had some nice games, won a couple for us. he had some bad games. BUT, it is hard not knowing game in and fame out when and how much you are going to play.

Hoping he comes back for a Junior season and make the necessary improvements in his 2nd year at UK. We saw some glimpses, just have to put it together for a sustained run. I will be happy to have him return next year. We wanted players to stay longer than a year after years of watching those leave early whether they were ready or not.
I agree 100%. He did some things last year, that not many big men can do. He just has to put it all together. No reason he can’t progress towards that next season.

Lets see if I am keeping score correct. Most want to keep and feel Noah and Perry will improve / be stars, but do not want a guy who actually won some games for us this year, not to come back, he sucks ? Do I have that right ? LOL, I get amazed at all of the armchair coaching / talent evaluators from people who never played the game at any level above Upward Bound.

It’s amazing to me we have fans that are on this board every day, watch every game on television, and know absolutely nothing about basketball. Just mind blowing. And yes, I agree with you

Lets review for a minute and lets not forget that he has size that can't be coached at any level, he's got good athleticism and a decent shot from outside, for a big. Those three things alone have carried people to NBA careers! I agree that we saw flashes but didn't see the progression we hoped for but he's got a year in Pope's system..that askes a LOT from his bigs. That continuity is important, too. I'd bet on that kid! He possibly has the highest ceiling on our team...He or Chandler one.
I've read people complaining about not having any burger boys on our team but that's not the case because Garrison is just that. Check out his resume and tell me who in the portal has a better one. I'm pretty sure there are a bunch of other teams that would happily take a player like him. I think we need to let this kid grow in this system and that he has the pieces to become a stud.
