If it’s true, the only reasons I can think of is $ and style of play. He’s not going to be drafted and maybe Purdue doesn’t have the NIL we do. He’s really good in pick and roll and excellent passer. Good shooter when he’s open. Big 10 player of the year.
Well, I definitely would love to have him at Kentucky, and Pope promised superstars this cycle. Kentucky absolutely needs to get a super stud or two.

He’s an all American, if we could get him we absolutely should do everything to move the earth to do it. I keep hearing about this but I’ve yet to see anyone in the know say he was going in the portal at all, let alone interested here.
Yep, easy to use the biggest fanbase as a leverage play, get your own NIL increased and get your school to work harder in the portal to get you a supporting cast to keep you around. That’s what I expect to happen with Smith, ultimately, but we will see. If I’m Pope, it’s time to go hard on Dedan because you don’t want to mess around and end up at the end of the portal cycle still trying to find a top guy when the demand is highest and the supply is lowest.

If we don’t, there won’t be a good reason this year. Just being real. However, I fully expect us to close on someone. Gotta go into next year with a roster where Oweh isn’t asked to be your main guy night in and night out
Exactly! This team wasn’t loaded with superstars but they were boxing out and making layups away from the Elite 8.
I think player assists are an over appreciated stat. Sometimes the most important pass was the pass before the assist, other times you get an assist for nothing special, your guy just made a great shot.
I just don't think he's athletic enough to play PG for a title team here. And all I'm interested in is banners.

He literally played for a NC last year. One stop from an E8 this year.
Athleticism is good to have at all positions, but if given the choice between great athleticism, shooting, and leadership for a PG, and I can only pick two of the three, I'm taking shooting and leadership every time, personally.

Yeah. I mean, I'll give that a chance if we get him AND some elite dudes around him. Will we have someone as freakishly dominant as Edey? In a league as athletic as the SEC is now (which is really unprecedented)? That's my overall point.
You don’t think the Big 10 has athletes? You don’t win POY in a conference like that for no reason. He’s widely considered the best PG in college. Do you think we would have won in 2012 with just AD, no Doron Lamb? Of course not. It takes a team still but he’s a damn good piece of one.
We'll see. If he comes here, I'll cheer for him like I would any player. I honestly only judge players for effort. If they're not meeting expectations (in non-effort ways, like missing shots or not being fast/strong enough), I put that more on the coach for assembling a bad roster or managing said roster poorly.

He obviously wanted to stay home, no visits and he’s from Cali. His best friend plays for UCLA, it sucks yeah, We should not recruit west coast players really unless the wanna go far away, we rarely pull them away. When we do they quickly leave.
As I said, I'd cheer hard for anyone on our team. I watched Smith some this year (not a ton, but a few games). I like his effort and vision, worry about his defensive ability in the current version of the SEC. Sort of like how I felt about Reed (and he was a better shooter/scorer).
If I made it sound like I don't even want him on the roster, that's not the case.
Dent is from California - he is going home

I don't know where all this 'Braden Smith to UK' smoke is coming from. It makes no sense for him to leave Purdue, his dream school and a program that has been better than UK the last several years, to come to UK and be looked at as a trader. It just makes no sense.

Go where the most money is.
Go where you always wanted to play.
You don’t know that yet. The portal tends to bring some big surprises every now and then.
I venture to guess something got “leaked” on purpose to use as leverage for a better NIL deal at Purdue. I’m not convinced he’s leaving yet either. But if he does, I’ll be his biggest fan.
